Xiaomi redesigned its full-screen Mi Mix 3 flagship, utilising a sliding design that ensures the bezels around the display are at the barest minimum. Although the slider technology at play has been shown to be different from the ones on slider phones of yore, there are still concerns about its durability. Well, if you need some convincing about the durability of the Mi Mix 3, Zack Nelson of JerryRigEverything has come to the rescue.

The YouTube recently posted a video of the Mix 3 undergoing the extreme torture tests that he has gained notoriety for carrying out. Thankfully, the Mix 3 seems to hold its own well in the scratch, bend, and burn tests that were carried out. Of particular interest is the resistance of the glass to scratch. The ceramic back is also pretty resistant to scratch compared to metal or glass panels. Even the earpiece is sown to be made of metal and so won’t get damaged easily when scratched with sharp metal.

The only snag about the slider isn’t related to its performance or sturdiness but the small gap between the two parts which could allow specks of dirt and sand get in easily. Talking about the bend test, the Mi Mix 3 survives in style. Even though it bends a little but it doesn’t snap like other slider phones such as the OPPO Find X. This could be as a result of the tough ceramic body it packs.

Xiaomi is set to officially announce the much-touted Mi Mix 3 which has been a favourite in the rumour mill. Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 deviates a whole lot from all its predecessors in terms of the design it adopts and even on the hardware aspect. Ahead of its unveiling, a short hands-on video of the Mi Mix 3 has appeared on Chinese microblogging website Weibo.

The hands-on video shows the Mi Mix 3 design in all its glory. Perhaps, most worthy of note is the rear fingerprint sensor which is on the model in the video. The Chinese phone maker had earlier teased the presence of an in-display fingerprint sensor on the device. Thus, it is possible that the Mi Mix 3 will come with both in-display and rear fingerprint sensors. In another light, there could be a model with in-display fingerprint and another with the rear sensor. Guess we won’t wait for too long to find out.

The hands-on video also shows the Mi MIX 3 is expected to arrive with a 6.39-inch S-AMOLED display that will carry support for 2340 x 1080 pixels Full HD+ resolution. The slide of the phone is fitted with LED-enabled 24-megapixel+20-megapixel dual selfie snappers. The backside of the Mi MIX 3 could be equipped with a 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel dual camera setup. Recall that the Mi Mix 3 will also be 5G-enabled and will get a variant that boasts of 10GB of RAM onboard.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 is rumoured to launch on October 15 which is barely four days away but the Chinese giant is yet to officially disclose a launch date for its upcoming flagship. Notwithstanding, the media remains agog for the third-gen Mi Mix. A countdown page has even appeared online with the digital clock ticking by the second to the launch. According to reports, the page popped up on Sogou, a popular search engine in China, when some netizens searched for the keyword “Xiaomi Mix 3”. We were able to confirm this by visiting the website m.sogou.com on mobile and searching for the same keyword. The countdown page appeared on top of the search results and it counts down to 2 pm on October 15. You can access the page using this article’s source link.

The page even contains some of the expected specifications of the upcoming model. Details revealed includes a 6.4-inch display, a 3850mAh battery, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The device is also listed as coming with a 16MP + 13MP dual rear camera set up while at the front is a 20MP selfie camera even though the renders suggest a triple rear camera setup.

In a surprise twist, the device is listed as coming with an unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset! This hardly looks like a possibility, anyway, since Qualcomm is yet to announce the next-gen chipset. Some renders of the device also accompany the countdown page. The design of the renders may not actually represent the real design of the model. The entire countdown page looks like what is based on the same rumours and speculations making the round on the web. We wait for Xiaomi’s official announcement of the launch date.
