A new leak suggests Xiaomi may bring back its experimental Mix line of smartphone. According to a recent report from XiaomiTime, the rumored Xiaomi Mix 5 is already in development, and it could land later this year with some new tricks.

The report points to internal Xiaomi database entries that reference a device codenamed “hongkong” with the model number Q5. The source suggests that the “Q” prefix could mean a 2026 release window, while the “5” aligns closely with the Mix branding. Previous devices in the series followed similar naming pattern, E5 and E5G for Mix 3 and Mix 3 5G and K8 for Mix 4. 

On the hardware side, the phone is expected to run on the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip. 

Xiaomi Mix 5 might still retain under display camera

As for the design, the Mix 5 is rumored to feature an under-display camera, like the Mix 4. The idea still hasn’t matured yet, although few niche brands like RedMagic offers their high-end gaming phones with a under-display camera. Of course, the camera performance is not as you’d expect from an over the surface camera.

There’s also talk of a new “magnetic lens” system for the rear camera. Xiaomi in fact teased the acessory back in 2025 and a previous report claimed that the lens has started mass production and could be seen as early as this year. 

Software-wise, the device is expected to ship with HyperOS 4 out of the box. That would make it one of the first phones to run Xiaomi’s next-generation software platform.

Perhaps more interestingly, the Mix 5 might not be limited to China this time. The report suggests Xiaomi is planning a broader global release, excluding Japan but opening availability to other international markets. 

There’s still no confirmed launch date, and Xiaomi’s evolving naming strategy leaves some room for interpretation. But taken together, the leaks suggest the company is once again use Mix series to bring its innovative experimental features to masses.

A few hours back, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 11i and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge in India. Both these phones are nothing but rebadged Redmi Note 11 Pro and Redmi Note 11 Pro+ respectively. At the end of the pre-recorded live stream, the company teased the arrival of yet another 120W fast-charging smartphone.

During his closing speech, Manu Janu, Managing Director of Xiaomi India revealed that the Xiaomi 11i series launch was just ‘part one of the HyperCharge Revolution’. He added that something else is also coming soon.

The stream later ended by showing a cryptic message, followed by a teaser poster saying ‘THE HYPERPHONE COMING SOON’.

Xiaomi only has a few 120W fast charging smartphones other than the Redmi Note 11 Pro+ (aka Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge). They are Mi 10 Ultra, Xiaomi MIX 4, Xiaomi 11T Pro, and Xiaomi 12 Pro. Out of these, the former two models have no chance of releasing in India.

That’s because the firm had already confirmed that they will remain exclusive to mainland China. Hence, the only device that could be the so-called HyperPhone could be any of the latter two.

It’s most likely Xiaomi is teasing the Xiaomi 11T Pro here. We are saying this because if it was indeed Xiaomi 12 Pro, then the company wouldn’t be focussing on its fast charging capability.

Xiaomi has started rolling out MIUI 13 stable update for the first batch of eligible devices in China. The latest version of MIUI also brings along Android 12 for these smartphones and tablets. After Mi 11, Xiaomi Pad 5 series, and Redmi K40, the update is being seeded out for the rest of the original Mi 11 and Redmi K40 family, in addition to Xiaomi MIX 4.

The Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has recently begun to roll out MIUI stable update based on Android 12 for the following phones in its home country.

Just like the previous devices, the newest update for the aforementioned handsets is only live for the beta testers. If these early adopters don’t face any issues, then the software will be rolled out to the general public by the end of January as scheduled.

We expect the international rollout to begin sometime later in Q1 2022. For the uninitiated, the Mi 11 Pro and the Xiaomi MIX 4 are not sold outside mainland China. On the other hand, the Redmi K40 Pro+ is known as Mi 11X Pro in India and Mi 11i elsewhere.

Xiaomi is reportedly testing a new under-display camera with a high-resolution solution that has been paired with an FHD+ display from Huaxing Optoelectronics.

Prior to this, Xiaomi had launched the Xiaomi MIX 4 as the very first commercially-selling smartphone from the company with an under-display. Its resolution was 20MP.

However, upcoming devices with the new UD camera tech will feature a much denser pixel count with resolutions higher than 20MP. The increased resolution will be further enhanced by improvements made to the clarity of selfies (via My Drivers).

It is worth noting here that while under-screen cameras have indeed come a long way, their quality is still no match for regular selfie cameras. But with Xiaomi’s strides in the field, the gap between the two is expected to close further.

Details about the upcoming devices that will be making use of the technology are scarce at the moment, but we expect to see more leaks drop soon.

Under-display camera tech from Xiaomi adopts a new pixel arrangement with a special circuit designed to hide more components under the RGB sub-pixels, which effectively improves light transmittance and allows clearer results.

It was recently learned that Xiaomi MIX 5 with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip has commenced trial production. While finer details about the device are unavailable at the moment, it is also expected to come with an under-screen snapper at the front just like its predecessor. It’s possible that the sensor may even sport a resolution higher than 20MP.

Unfortunately, the above-listed software builds are not available for download at the moment. Xiaomi might release them exclusively for beta testers in the coming days.

Since the software is ready for multiple handsets, we think that the company may soon announce the date for MIUI 13 launch conference. At the same time, it might also open registrations for beta testers for whom these initial builds will be rolled out first.

MIUI 13 is said to fix issues faced by Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO users. But only time will tell whether Xiaomi manages to pull it off.

Xiaomi with a Weibo post today announced a new ‘Exploration Theme’ for the Xiaomi MIX 4 smartphone. The packaging of the device has been upgraded and now features an astronomical theme complete with stars and planets.

Upon a closer look, one can see that the ringed circle is meant to depict the planet Saturn, while the rocky grey ‘planet’ actually is one of Saturn’s more prominent moons called Mimas. The overall theme of the box revolves around the color grey and it’s likely that this special edition only comes with the grey Xiaomi MIX 4. This is apparent from the official images that only show the device in a single color.

A special bag will also be given to those purchasing the Xiaomi MIX 4 Exploration Theme edition to complement the new box. This one is completely black and has a golden “Xiaomi MIX 4” text printed atop.

The device itself doesn’t seem to have gotten any changes in design and color though with the special edition and all of the tweaks are limited to its packaging alone.

Sadly, there is still no official news of the MIX 4 getting a global release, so the new “out of this world” unboxing experience may never make it to the global audience. Xiaomi had announced its MIX 4 smartphone last month as the brand’s first smartphone to come with in-display camera sensor. At the time of launch, the company had announced the phone in three colors — Ceramic White, Ceramic Gray, and Ceramic Black.

Today, the Xiaomi MIX 4 Ceramic White variant goes on sale in China. Except for the phone’s color, everything else remains the same in the device. The device has been quite popular in China as the first day sale exceeded 300 million in just a minute.

The base model of the MIX 4 with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage costs 4,999 yuan (~$777) while the 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage model is priced at 5,299 yuan (~$824). Xiaomi recently launched its laetst MIX series flagship smartphone named Xiaomi MIX 4, making it the first smartphone from the brand to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. Soon after the launch, a limited edition variant of the device was announced, dubbed Xiaomi MIX 4 Three-Body Limited Edition.

Today, the Xiaomi MIX 4 Three-Body Limited Edition goes on sale in its home country China for the price of 6,299 yuan which roughly converts to $971. It comes in a single variant that packs 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

The company says that it has a limited stock of just 500 units available for sale. In this Three-Body Limited Edition box set, along with the Shadow Ceramic Black MIX 4 smartphone, there’s also a floating planet aromatherapy set. The box also comes with a unique planet-themed design in a blue hue.

Coming to the specifications, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 comes with a 6.67-inch full-screen AMOLED display with a 10-bit color depth. It is a curved display panel with Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Now, Xiaomi had provided further illumination to the Mix 4 by publishing an official unboxing video for the flagship model. The unboxing video further provides some fine details about the Xiaomi Mix 4.

The smartphone comes in a large box that includes a 120W charger and a charging cable. The 55-second video showed several angles of the smartphone revealing a sleek design and minimal bezels. Some views of the 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, with a 20MP front camera, were captured in the unboxing video.

The Xiaomi Mix 4 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888+ chipset and offers up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage, with also an 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage available. The Mix 4 has a 4,500mAh battery and can be charged via 120W wired charging or 50W fast charging. There is also the boost mode which can fully charge a depleted battery in under 15 minutes. On the other hand, the wireless charger will fully charge a depleted battery in under 30 minutes.

The Xiaomi Mix 4 is selling at 4,999 yuan ($770) in China and other markets are expected to follow suit subsequently, although no details on the global availability and pricing of the device are available at this time.

Xiaomi recently introduced the Mi Mix 4, its latest flagship smartphone in China. However, it looks like that the company is having a hard time keeping up the supply.

According to Lu Weibing, President Xiaomi, and GM Redmi, Mi Mix 4 supply will remain tight because of silicon shortage. He said that the limited supply of Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset and the low yield rate of ceramic material were the two main reasons why the stock of Mi Mix 4 was low. To note, the manufacturing cost of ceramic material is 5 to 6 times higher than standard glass, and it is also tougher to carve out a piece of ceramic glass.

The first batch of preorders was instantly sold out, and Mi Home’s presales were also exhausted. Weibing further apologized to the fans and said that the stock for the Aug 16th sale was also going to be limited. 

Xiaomi MI Mix 4 Specifications

The Mi Mix 4 brings Xiaomi’s new CUP technology. The CUP technology is Xiaomi’s under-display camera tech. The Mi Mix 4 comes with a 20MP camera housed under the display. The 6.75-inch curved OLED display uses a new micro-diamond pixel technology. It offers some interesting features such as a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and 800 nits of brightness. The display is being protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

The Snapdragon 888 Plus powers Xiaomi’s latest flagship SoC. It comes with either 8GB or 12GB RAM and upto 512GB of internal storage. Further, it packs a 4500mAH battery with support for 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging. The smartphone runs on Android 11 based MIUI 12.5. The Mi Mix 4 comes with always-on UWB technology that allows you to control compatible smart home devices by pointing at them.

On the back, the Mi Mix 4 comes with a triple rear camera setup. The setup is being led by a 108MP HMX f/1.9 primary camera having OIS and 7P lens. The other two cameras are an 8MP periscope camera with 50x zoom and 5x optical zoom and a 13MP ultra-wide camera with a free-form lens. It will be retailing for a starting price of ¥4999 (~$770) for the 8GB/256GB base variant. The Mi Mix 4 comes in three colors – Ceramic White, Ceramic Gray, and Ceramic Black.

Earlier this week, Xiaomi introduced its fourth generation Mix series smartphone, the Mi Mix 4. It brought CUP Full Screen Technology on board with top-notch specifications.

But did you know that the Mi Mix 4 had one more exciting feature, an anti-lost mode using a virtual SIM?

Unfortunately, the company has announced that it’s forced to disable this feature.

The Mi Mix 4 has a built-in virtual SIM card that can help locate the device even if it has no SIM card. However, the feature had to be removed due to non-compliance with national regulations (China). According to the official statement posted by Xiaomi on Weibo, the technology hasn’t been approved for application in mobile phone products. Further, the company has also apologized to its users for removing the anti-lost mode.

The selfie camera has been hugely popular among smartphone users. Several other accessories like the selfie stick, have been developed in combination with the selfie cam for an enhanced photo and video recording experience. However, smartphone camera technology is a fast-evolving field that has thrown up under-display cameras as the new direction for front cameras. A few devices in the market have this new technology, and the Xiaomi Mix 4, just released this week, is one of such.

A Weibo post by a Xiaomi Executive has thrown more light on the Mix 4’s selfie camera. Senior Vice President at Xiaomi, William Lu, in the Weibo post, highlighted the strong points of the Mix 4, which sports an under-display front camera module, to be the full-screen display. Lu says that the Mix 4 lacks a punch hole, stressing that phones with punch holes offer more satisfaction for selfie enthusiasts. The Mix 4, on the other hand, offers a bigger screen and a more immersive display experience.

In other words, if you are a selfie enthusiast, the MIX 4 may not be for you. Recall that the ZTE Axon 20 was the first smartphone to feature a UD camera technology. The device really didn’t offer an impressive selfie experience but the Axon 30 released this year came with some improvement in that aspect. Since the Mix 4 is Xiaomi’s first attempt at UD camera technology, we expect some improvements un subsequent smartphones. .

The camera technology deployed in Mix 4 is called Camera Under Panel (CUP), and it offers a full screen for front shots. The under-display technology is still in a state of rapid development, and we are bound to see further innovations in this regard. Several OEMs are actively developing their own versions (some with patents) of the under-display camera setup.
