The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and includes a VC + graphite cooling system. The hinge uses an antenna structure to save internal space and supports up to 600,000 folds.

Honor Magic V5

Honor introduced the Magic V5 as its most durable and premium foldable to date. The design features an eight-curve frame and King Kong Giant Rhino Glass for superior drop resistance. The hinge uses aerospace-grade materials and supports 500,000 folds. The phone also carries IP58 and IP59 ratings.

It is available in two themed colors, Cherry Red and Glacier White. The main highlight lies in the middle frame, which is embedded with a lab-grown diamond featuring a Cupid cut, certified by NGTC.

The flip phone market is heating up once again, with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7. While Samsung had long dominated the foldable segment, other brands have since caught up and even surpassed the South Korean giant. Chinese companies in particular have offered cutting edge designs and tech without any of the compromises faced by typical foldable phones. But this year, Samsung made some notable upgrades, so let’s see how the latest Z Flip 7 compares against the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Xiaomi Mix Flip 2: Design

There were plenty of minor changes on the new Galaxy Z Flip 7 that were related to improved hinge and helped pack a taller display. But it also caused it to become thicker than its predecessor, measuring 13.7mm when folded (6.5mm unfolded) and weighing 188 grams. However, this is still thinner than Xiaomi’s Mix Flip 2 that is heaier at 199 grams and thicker 15.87mm when folded (7.57mm unfolded). So Samsung is still beating some of its competition in the design department.

Another upgrade in Samsung’s new flip is the taller 4.1-inch Super AMOLED FlexWindow screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung made a big shift away from Qualcomm for its flip phones this year, opting for an Exynos 2500 chip on the Z Flip 7. This is still a flagship grade 3nm chip with top notch performance, but the Snapdragon 8 Elite on the Mix Flip 2 still edges ahead in raw performance.

For photography, there are two 50MP camera on the Mix Flip 2, which includes a primary Leica Summilux lens and an ultra wide angle shooter. The front houses a 32MP selfie camera. A similar setup can be found on the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but the ultra wide angle is a 12MP shooter, while the front features a 10MP selfie sensor. On paper, the Chinese brand’s flip phone clearly has an edge here considering the higher resolution and Leica collaboration.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 starts from 1,099 US Dollars for the base 12GB + 256GB variant. Xiaomi officially launched the Mix Flip 2, its second-generation clamshell foldable smartphone. The device arrives with meaningful upgrades across display, performance, battery, and design, positioning it as the most complete flip-style foldable Xiaomi has made so far. It is also the first flip phone on the market to feature a battery capacity exceeding 5000mAh.

Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 Specifications

The Mix Flip 2 retains its predecessor’s dual-display layout but upgrades both screens for brightness, durability, and usability. The outer screen is a 4.01-inch AMOLED panel made from M9 luminescent material, reaching up to 3200 nits brightness and supporting over 500 optimized apps.

It allows full interaction with apps like messaging, maps, payments, and even video streaming. The inner screen uses the same M9 material, delivering 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 460PPI, and TÜV Rheinland triple eye-care certification. The 2160Hz PWM dimming support helps reduce flicker and eye strain.

The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It also debuts the industry’s first dual vapor chamber cooling system in a flip phone, with thermal modules placed on both the motherboard and lower half of the body to maintain sustained performance.

Mix Flip 2 runs Hyper OS 2 based on Android 15. The outer display supports app customization, multitasking cards, Xiao AI integration, and a unique animated pet wallpaper function where users can turn their own pets into interactive lock screen characters.

The phone uses Xiaomi’s next-generation “Dragon Bone” hinge, engineered with a unique three-link and four-floating-plate design. It improves flatness when opened and durability when folded. The hinge uses ultra-flexible 50μm glass, and maintains a crease depth under 50μm even after 200,000 folds. The Mix Flip 2 also integrates car control for Xiaomi EVs and Apple ecosystem features like shared albums and file transfers.

Pricing & Availability

The Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 is available in four color options: Shell White, Nebula Purple, Plum Green, and Grid Gold. It is available in three storage configurations:

• 16GB + 512GB for 6499 yuan (~$905)
• 16GB + 1TB for 7299 yuan (~$1,015)

Alongside the phone, Xiaomi also introduced the Mix Flip 2 Pocket Photo Kit priced at 699 yuan (~$95). This compact accessory connects via Type-C and allows users to instantly capture and print photos using sublimation technology. It includes a dedicated shutter button, built-in fill light, gesture and voice capture support, positive/negative film filters, and Leica-branded watermarks for a more authentic photo experience.

Printed photos are automatically laminated, protecting them from moisture and fading. The unique feature is the dynamic photo printing, which enables scanned prints to replay the original motion, bringing a new interactive layer to physical photographs.

Huawei Pura 80 Series

Vivo positioned the T4 Ultra as a feature-rich midranger that flirts with flagship territory. Xiaomi is preparing for a major product event on June 26 in China, and among the expected announcements is the Mix Flip 2, the company’s second-generation flip-style foldable. 

This year, Xiaomi’s strategy around foldables appears more focused. The Mix Flip 2 is currently slated to be the only foldable phone from the company in 2025, with no Mix Fold 5 in sight. That alone makes it a bigger deal than it might have been otherwise.

Ahead of the launch, Xiaomi has already teased official images of the Mix Flip 2, and a few specs have surfaced through benchmark databases and certification listings. Between company teasers, benchmark tests, and leaks from Chinese tipsters, we have a fairly complete picture of the phone.

A familiar design

If you’ve seen the original Mix Flip, you won’t be surprised by the Mix Flip 2’s design. It retains the vertical camera layout of the original Flip, paired with minimal bezels on the cover screen. The device will be available in green, gold, and purple shades.

Physically, the Mix Flip 2 could be slightly more compact and lighter than its predecessor. It’s expected to weigh around 190 grams and measure 7.6mm thick when unfolded. 

The company might also focus on improving its durability, as the Flip 2 is expected to feature a high-strength hinge and materials that have passed military-grade drop tests. The phone will be IPX8 rated, which means it’s technically water-resistant but not dustproof.

Bigger battery, faster charging

As for the battery, the Mix Flip 2 has been certified with a 5,100mAh battery, which would make it one of the largest in its category. For comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 5 packs a 3,700mAh battery while its predecessor has a 4,780mAh cell.

Xiaomi’s battery is also paired with 67W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, as confirmed by China’s 3C certification.

High-end hardware across the board

The Mix Flip 2 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, a chip that’s also expected to show up in other premium foldables like the Honor Magic V5. 

A recent Geekbench listing for the phone, under the model number 2505APX7BC, confirms the chip and reveals scores of 2835 (single-core) and 8550 (multi-core). While benchmarks rarely tell the whole story, they do point to a noticeable performance bump over last year’s flagship foldables.

RAM appears to start at 12GB, though Xiaomi may offer higher-end configurations as well. The phone will run Android 15 out of the box, skinned with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.0 custom UI.

A taller main screen

The main display is expected to be a 6.85-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. That size makes it one of the taller flip phones on the market, and it could improve usability in apps that require more vertical space. As for the external screen, leaks point to a 4.01-inch dual-curve display, which is a bit bigger than Mix Flip’s panel.

A larger outer screen means more utility for quick tasks — checking messages, controlling music, or using widgets — without needing to flip open the device. This kind of secondary display is becoming more central to how flip phones function, and Xiaomi is in the same line as Motorola’s Razr Plus or Samsung’s Z Flip series.

Cameras get the Leica treatment

Xiaomi’s ongoing partnership with Leica continues here. The Mix Flip 2 will reportedly ship with a 50MP main sensor that supports optical image stabilization, paired with a 50MP ultra-wide lens. 

Of course, the impact of Leica branding on mobile camera performance is debatable — Xiaomi devices tend to handle tuning in-house — but it does give the phone a little more marketing weight in a crowded premium segment.

Other features and ecosystem tie-ins

The Mix Flip 2 is expected to support an in-display fingerprint scanner, NFC, and an IR blaster, continuing Xiaomi’s trend of packing in small but useful hardware features. 

As for software, HyperOS 2.0 will likely bring more continuity features between Xiaomi phones, tablets, and smart home devices, especially given that the Pad 7S Pro and Redmi K Pad are also expected to launch at the same event.

While some of these additions may seem minor, they collectively make the device more competitive against foldables from Samsung and Motorola, which have sometimes cut corners in these areas.

No Mix Fold this year

The most interesting twist this year isn’t just the phone itself, it’s what’s not launching. According to early reports, Xiaomi has no plans to release a Mix Fold 5 in 2025. That leaves the Mix Flip 2 as the company’s sole foldable option this cycle. 

Whether this is a response to sales data, supply chain issues, or a broader change in foldable strategy isn’t clear yet. But it’s a notable pivot, especially when competitors like Samsung and Honor continue to offer both fold and flip variants.

Global launch could happen soon after

As for availability, the Mix Flip 2 will launch in China first on June 26, alongside the Redmi K80 Ultra and two new tablets. But a global release is likely in July, based on Xiaomi’s typical launch schedule and regulatory filings. The K80 Ultra, by contrast, may remain exclusive to China or eventually launch globally as a rebranded Xiaomi 15T Pro later this year.

Positioning against the Galaxy Z Flip 7

Xiaomi’s launch also comes just ahead of Samsung’s expected debut of the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which will likely be its closest competitor. If the Mix Flip 2 delivers on its hardware promises, it could offer a real challenge to Samsung in markets where both are sold.

But Xiaomi’s foldables have so far been mostly limited to China, and even when they launch globally, software support and update timelines can lag behind brands like Samsung or Google. Xiaomi is preparing for a large-scale product launch on June 26 in China, where it will unveil a slate of new devices, including the Redmi K80 Ultra, the Redmi K Pad, and a new 12.5-inch Pad 7S Pro. 

Also on the docket is the Mix Flip 2, the company’s second-generation foldable flip phone. Ahead of the announcement, Xiaomi has shared official images of the device, and it’s already been spotted in early Geekbench performance tests.

Visually, the Mix Flip 2 doesn’t stray far from the template set by its predecessor. The cover screen still has two camera cutouts arranged vertically. While the device appears to have a minimal screen bezel. 

From the press images shared by Xiaomi, the phone will be available in at least three color finishes: green, gold, and purple. 

Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 Geekbench

More interestingly, the Mix Flip 2 has appeared in the Geekbench database under the model number 2505APX7BC. According to the test results, the phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. The same SoC powers the Honor’s upcoming Magic V5 and Oppo Find N5. 

The foldable scores 2835 points in the single-core test and 8550 points in the multi-core test. The Geekbench listing also confirms 12GB as one of its memory options, and Android 15 OS out of the box. 

It is expected to ship with a 6.85-inch LTPO AMOLED main screen with around 1.5K resolution, paired with a large dual-curve external display. On the outside, it may feature a 4.01-inch cover display that will offer an improved user experience.

The foldable is also said to support IPX8 water resistance and 50W wireless charging, along with a combined battery capacity of around 5,050mAh with 67W fast charging.

The Pro and Max models upgrade to dual-motor AWD setups with 365kW and 508kW outputs respectively. The Max variant reaches 0–100km/h in just 3.23 seconds, powered by a 101.7kWh NMC battery.

The Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro will be equipped with the company’s in-house Xring O1 chipset. It will also feature a 12.5-inch LCD 3.2K 144Hz screen and a 10,160mAh battery with 120W charging. The Mix Flip 2, which is the company’s only foldable phone this year, will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.

The Redmi K80 Ultra will arrive with the Dimensity 9400 Plus chip onboard, whereas the Redmi K Pad, featuring the same chip, will be the company’s first compact-sized gaming tablet.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 will reportedly feature the same OV8000 50MP main sensor and 32MP OV32B40 front camera as the Mix Flip. However, it seems the device is ditching the 50MP telephoto lens of its predecessor in favor of a 50MP Samsung S5KJN5 ultra-wide-angle camera. 

What led Xiaomi to make this decision remains unclear, but for me personally, a telephoto camera is far more useful. Whether it’s for portraits or capturing crisp zoom shots, I find telephoto lenses more versatile than ultra-wide lenses.

A recent leak from Weibo tipster Experience More corroborates these camera details and adds that the Mix Flip 2 will come with an IPX8 rating and wireless charging support—features that were absent in its predecessor.

The tipster also mentions a larger battery, and a report earlier this week suggests it could house either a 5,600mAh or 5,700mAh cell. Considering the original Flip had a 4,780mAh battery, this would be a notable improvement, especially given the limited space clamshell folding phones have to accommodate larger batteries.

In addition to the camera and battery details, a few previous reports have shed light on other specifications of the phone. Back in August, the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 was reportedly spotted with model numbers 2505APX7BC and 2505APX7BG in the GSMA IMEI database. Despite the absence of the device’s name in the IMEI database, speculation suggests that these model numbers correspond to the Chinese and global versions of the Mix Flip 2, respectively.

The EEC authority recently approved the global variant of the Mix Flip 2, indicating its future release in European markets. Unfortunately, apart from the chipset, nothing else has been revealed about the Mix Flip 2 yet. In China, some flip-style foldable phones offer batteries of around 4,800mAh capacity. With the recent trend of increased battery size in flagship devices, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Mix Flip 2 packing a 5,000mAh+ battery.

The Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 has taken another step toward its global release, as its international model, bearing the number “2505APX7BG,” has received certification from the EEC (spotted by TheTechOutlook).

This follows earlier reports of both the Chinese and global models being listed on the GSMA IMEI database, hinting at a launch expected around May 2025. The Chinese variant carries the model number “2505APX7BC.” While specific details about the Mix Flip 2 remain unknown, its EEC certification solidifies its entry into European markets.

For context, the 2024 Xiaomi Mix Flip, the predecessor, set high expectations with premium features. It showcased a 6.9-inch OLED main screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 3,000 nits peak brightness, and a 1.5K resolution. The secondary 4-inch cover screen also offered 120Hz refresh and similar brightness levels.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, the Mix Flip featured up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. A 4,780mAh battery with 67W wired fast charging kept it running, while it operated on Android 14-based HyperOS. The camera setup included two 50MP rear sensors and a 32MP front-facing camera.

In other news, it looks like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra might be arriving sooner than expected, as a recent report suggests the device could launch at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, which is scheduled to take place in February. Rumored specifications include a 6.73-inch micro-quad-curved AMOLED display with 2K resolution, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a 6,000mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging, and a capable camera system with 50MP Sony LYT-900 primary sensor.

The Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 has been spotted in the IMEI database with 2 different model numbers. You can see the model numbers above, the model number starts with “2505”. This means May 2025, but the MIX Flip had a model number starting with 2405 and was released in July 2024. The new foldable devices are therefore expected to be unveiled in July 2025.

The first model number is “2505APX7BC” and the C at the end stands for China. The second model number is “2505APX7BG”. This model number has the letter G at the end and refers to the Global version of the device. Apart from these, there is not much information about the MIX Flip 2. However, the fact that the foldable smartphone has already been added to the IMEI database officially confirms its existence.
