At least 3 Xiaomi phones with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus are reportedly in the pipeline

At least three Xiaomi phones equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus processor and 2K resolution displays are in the pipeline currently, leakster Digital Chat Station revealed today with a post on Weibo. It’s easy to assume here that since the upcoming chip from Qualcomm is a flagship, phones featuring it will be flagships too — but the leakster said “both mid-to-high-end and high-end” offerings will have it under the hood.

And if one pictures an upper mid-range device with a flagship chip, Redmi devices immediately come to mind. The sub-brand is known for bringing performance-focused devices with high-end chips to the masses, so it’s likely that at least one of the said three devices will be its product. The Xiaomi MIX series could also be a contender.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is based on TSMC’s 4nm process, which many hope will address most of the shortcomings from Samsung’s process used to produce the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. It is expected to use a “1+3+4” three-cluster architecture, comprising 1x super-large Cortex X2 core, 3x large Cortex A710 cores, and 4x small Cortex A510 cores.

Sources say that the processor will be used in the Xiaomi 12 Ultra, which should make the phone the new Xiaomi champion in terms of processing power, dethroning the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2022 so the aforementioned trio will likely be also launched around the same time.

Xiaomi Thor, Loki will be part of MIX series

Earlier this week, two Xiaomi smartphones codenamed Thor and Loki were spotted in MIUI code. They were suggested to be Xiaomi 12 Ultra Enhanced and Xiaomi 12 Ultra respectively. But according to recent certifications, these pones will be called something else.

Xiaomi MIX 4 with under-display camera

Xiaomi Thor and Loki with model numbers 2203121C and 2203121AC respectively have been now spotted on a certification agency by Xiaomiui. According to the listings, these smartphones will be part of the ‘Xiaomi MIX’ series.

Hence, they will not be called Xiaomi 12 Ultra Enhanced and Xiaomi 12 Ultra. Instead, they will have MIX branding and their exact names are a mystery as of now. Additionally, the certifications also reiterate that these devices will be exclusive to China, as per their model numbers ending with ‘C’.

As per the previous report by the same source, the Xiaomi Thor and Loki will be powered by the next-gen Qualcomm 800 series SoC. This chipset was previously rumored as Snapdragon 898. But now, it is said to go official as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The silicon is known by its model number SM4350.

Lastly, the duo is expected to house at least four rear cameras, such as a 50MP primary sensor and three 48MP auxiliary sensors. There’s no information about its front camera.

The Xiaomi Thor and Loki are anticipated to launch in Q1 2022.

Xiaomi MIX 4 Hands on Review: Beautiful Color, High Quality Workmanship

If you have been following the smartphone market over the years, you will know how shocking it was when Xiaomi released its first generation of MIX. After launching the Mix 3 slider phone, the company announced the MIX Alpha, but it wasn’t on sale to the public, and then came the MIX Fold, which isn’t a phone for most people. And today we’ve got the Xiaomi MIX 4, which is the official successor to the MIX series. Since we got the phone not long ago, we’ll start with the most relevant aspects in this hands-on.

Xiaomi MIX 4 Hands-on: Unboxing & Design

The box is not as small as the Mi 11 series, as you can see, the Mi Mix 4 box is pretty large. When you open the package, the new slogan of MIX comes into view. Translated into English, it means “There is no perfection in the world, but there is always someone in pursuit of perfection”.

Next you see the Xiaomi MIX 4 itself, let’s put it aside for now and see what accessories come with it. A phone case, a headphone adapter, a data cable, and of course the most important accessory, a 120w charger.

The MIX series has pursued a full-screen design right from its inception, and although the MIX 4 is not the first phone to use the under-display camera technology, it has done a very good job with the full-screen effect.

In everyday use, even if you look carefully, you won’t easily spot the camera area. Just from the display effect, it has reached a highly usable state. Of course, it is not perfect, as from the side view, you can still see the position of the front camera. In bright light, there will also be a sun logo to protect the front camera area of the screen. And Xiaomi has made a hole in the display panel for better front camera quality. However, I hope future versions won’t have a hole in the screen because only then it will have a better full-screen effect.

Compared to the first generation, the MIX 4’s design is kind of less impressive. Like many other phones, there is a matrix rear camera in the upper left corner. The new gray color scheme is very elegant, and the blue tint in gray looks very premium. Although the MIX 4 is relatively average in terms of the back cover design, the production quality is nevertheless superb. The Unibody ceramic body was well received by the public when it first debuted on the MIX 2, and the Unibody process is polished even further on the MIX 4.

With the new technology, the ceramic body is 30% lighter, which is one of the reasons why the MIX 4 is lighter than the Mi 11 Ultra. The back cover and frame are unibody, so it won’t pinch your hand, and it naturally feels much better than other phones. And since ceramic has a greater thermal conductivity than glass, you get the feeling that the MIX 4 will get warmer more easily than other phones with glass back covers. Honestly, the feel of the MIX 4 is really very good, and it’s hard to describe it in words. So If you get the chance, you must go and experience it yourself.

Xiaomi MIX 4 Hands-on: Under Screen Camera Quality

You must also be very curious about the quality of the front camera, right? We were curious too and tried to take a couple of selfies.

Are you happy with its quality? Personally, I’m satisfied with the front camera quality, especially considering there is a screen covering the camera. But if you zoom in, even though the AI processing has optimized the image much more than what we saw in the preview, many details of the image are not visible anymore. So, despite using a new under-screen camera solution, MIX 4 is not recommended for people who want high quality selfies.

But if you want basic selfies or just want to talk to your family and friends on video calls like I do, this front camera can handle such simple scenarios.

Xiaomi MIX 4 Hands-on: Hardware, Camera, & Battery

MIX 4 is also equipped with the Snapdragon 888+ SOC for the first time. With 780,000 points on AnTuTu and 5700 points in 3D Mark, this chip doesn’t feel much different from Snapdragon 888. Because of time constraints, we could only test PUBG on the phone, and with the performance mode on with the HDR Graphics Extreme frame rate mode, it still limits the frame rate. With an average frame rate of 53 FPS, it seems that the MIX 4 is very conservatively tuned for performance.

The MIX 4’s rear camera also takes very good pictures, and performs very well in most cases during the day. But the ultra-wide lens and telephoto lens low light photo quality is more towards average, and the dynamic range is relatively low. The main camera does not have this problem when the night mode is turned on, and the performance in low light is also very good.

MIX 4 also brings the fastest charging combination for cell phones right now, i.e. a 120w wired charging + 50w wireless charging. After turning on Boost charging speed, the wired charging got the battery to full in just 16 minutes, and when using wireless charging, it took 37 minutes for a full charge.

Some people may wonder how its 50w wireless charging solution can charge the phone in just 37 minutes. This is because, recently, China added a policy stating the power output of wireless charging should not exceed 50w. This policy was officially implemented sometime before the launch, so Xiaomi did not dare to advertise a faster wireless charging solution, even if it technically achieved an output higher than 50w. In fact, the wireless charging power of MIX 4 is much greater than 50w. If you turn off the Boost charging speed function, wireless charging can only be charged at a maximum of 50w, and it will take 50 minutes to fill up.

Xiaomi Mi Mix Reservation Opens Friday November 25, Offline Sales Billed For Sunday

The Xiaomi Mi Mix is set to go up for what should be another round of reservation since the device was put up for sale. Xiaomi today officially announced that the device will officially be open for reservations starting from tomorrow Friday, November 25 by 14:00.

This time around, those who successfully make reservations for the device will be able to buy the Concept phone from Xiaomi stores in China on Sunday November 27. To be able to access this reservation, interested buyers will need a valid identity card and a mobile phone number as well. These only qualifies an individual to buy just one unit of the device. In the past, the reservation tickets were put on sales for exhorbitant prices by those who catch in on the huge demand for the device and get the reservation ticket before selling it up to other willing buyers.

Both the Mi Mix Standard edition with 128GB storage as well as the 256GB Exclusive edition will be up for sale on that day. Also a leather protective casing for the exclusive edition would be made available in January next year and buyers of the Exclusive edition would be able to get theirs free.

We expect nothing less than a quick sell out when the stores open on Sunday and even then, we might still see a couple of Xiaomi fans waiting overnight in front of the Mi stores.

[Video] Xiaomi Mix Subjected to Durability & Resistance Test

Xiaomi Mix is unarguably one of the best smartphones to come out from the China-based smartphone maker. The bezel-less flagship device still commands lots of attention all over the world, even featuring in the New York Times magazine recently. Curiously, the Mix looks very fragile because of its concept ceramic glass body but there hasn’t been a test to see how durable the device is. Not anymore.

Popular online technology analyst/tester JerryRigEverything has released a YouTube video where he subjected the Xiaomi Mix to series of durability and resistance tests. The video is embedded after this writ-up for you to check out but it is worthy to note that despite its fragile looks, the Mi Mix withstood all the tests and still functioned very well.

The first test the Mix was subjected to was the scratch test and that is done with the help of picks that helps determine the degree of resistance the device can endure when it is scratched. The test result places the Xiaomi Mix at the same level with most modern flagships. The analyst also subjected the camera lens, the display to different test involving the use of heat as well as physically bending the phone to see the degree of strain it can withstand. Yet, the device still functioned very well after all the stress and strain. We duff our hat for this rugged, sleek, beauty.

Fans Queue Overnight Just to Get the Xiaomi Mix & Mi Note 2

Xiaomi yesterday announced that from 10 am today being 11.11, the Xiaomi Mix and Mi Note 2 would go on offline sale on the official Mi home stores in China. The company also disclosed that sales of both highly sought after devices would be on first come first serve basis. A long queue of persons wanting to buy either devices, especially the Xiaomi Mix was expected but what we didn’t envisage was that some fans would spend the night outside the Xiaomi official stores so as to be in good stead to grab one of the device.

According to pictures shared by Xiaomi’s co-founder and Vice-President, Wang Chuan, fans braced the winter cold to stay outside the stores in large numbers. Most of them came prepared, decked in winter jacket, some with plastic seats while other came with a hot water flask or teas cups to perhaps provide tea or coffee which would help drive away the piercing winter cold.

It wasn’t a male-only affair, though, as the females were not left out and a good number of them could be spotted in the long queues. Those that couldn’t find seats are either standing or seated on the bare floor. The queues are expected to surge as the day get by.

No doubt, this is another demonstration of the huge popularity of the two Xiaomi flagships both in China and even overseas. The Mi Mix and Note 2 had gone on their first and second flash sales and cumulatively the sales didn’t last up to one minute, gone in seconds on both occasions.

Xiaomi MIX Sells Out In 30 Seconds

The Xiaomi MIX went on sale again today alongside the Mi Note 2 but both devices were out of stock in a very short time.

The sales kicked off at exactly 10 o’clock. Some buyers who were trying to purchase it decided to reload the page since it was slow to load due to the heavy traffic on the server only to see it was out of stock. Those who took note of the time said it was still 10:00:30 am when the MIX sold out!!

The Mi Note 2 cannot be said to have fared any better as it was out of stock in a minute.

Some users’ feedback have said it’s better to make a reservation than wait to buy during flash sales as a reserved order will most likely be fulfilled. The short supply of the Mi Mix is still understandable as Xiaomi has said they are facing production challenges with the ceramic body. Until that is fixed, there will always be a short supply of the phone.

The next round of sale will kick off on the 11th of November during the double 11 sales.

Xiaomi MIX Sold Out in Just 10 Seconds in First Sale!

The Xiaomi Mix went up on sale today and just as predicted, the device didn’t even last up to 20 seconds before it was displayed as sold out. Just 10 seconds after Xiaomi‘s official website opened for sales of the device to those who had made reservations, the Mi Mix was listed as out of stock, meaning it had been sold out.

Obviously, the minds of fans remained unwavering despite talks of the display and ceramic body of the Mi Mix cracking easily if the device accidentally drops. The clamor for the device remained high as reflected in the flash sale. The sales happens to be for both the standard version of the Xiaomi Mix with 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM and carrying a hefty 3499 Yuan ($516) price tag and available in black color, as well as for the higher version with 6GB RAM + 256GB ROM, available in black gold color an priced at 3999 Yuan ($590).

Xiaomi is also said to have offline sales of the device available, with reservations opening briefly yesterday on WeChat. Fans with successful reservations can purchase the device from the offline store today and both versions are available for purchase as well.

The Xiaomi Mix concept phone will go on another flash sale on November 8 and we expect the device to see a quick sell out even then.

What Happens When You Drop Your Xiaomi Mi Mix?

That feeling you have when you buy a new phone is difficult to describe. You like the way it’s built and the way it feels in your hands, so you wonder why you should invest in a protective case to cover up such a beauty until it slips from your grip, and since you don’t have quick reflexes, your phone rushes to hug the ground and you hear a crack. Your phone’s screen is broken and that pain is difficult to describe as well. Then you wish you had bought a bumper case.

Now imagine if you own a phone like the Xiaomi Mi Mix whose display reaches the edges and can’t be protected by a bumper case. What happens when you accidentally drop it? Someone has it all figured out and it is not a pretty sight at all.

The Xiaomi Mi Mix is yet to go on sale but at the company’s headquarters, someone accidentally dropped the phone and he did not only end up with a broken screen but he also cracked the ceramic frame. Now for a phone like that, the only place you will be able to fix it will be at an authorised store and trust me, it isn’t going to be cheap unless you purchase an accidental damage insurance while buying the phone which will cost you an additional 249 Yuan ($37).

Xiaomi has earlier said that it is having difficulties with manufacturing the ceramic frame. So repairing a broken one isn’t going to be easy either and might take a while.

The much talked about Xiaomi Mi Note 2 today went up on its first sale via Xiaomi official website in China and reports emerging indicate that just 50 seconds after the website opened for those who have already made reservations, the flagship device was indicated to have been sold out.

That is a clear evidence of the popularity and acceptance the Mi Note 2 has got among fans and non-fans of Xiaomi alike. One attractive feature is undoubtedly the double curved or hyperboloid display the Note 2 features and not only that, there are lots of other attractive features coupled with the great price tag.

Xiaomi is offering up the Standard Edition of the Mi Note 2 with 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM and a 2799 Yuan price tag as well as the higher version with 6GB RAM + 128 GB ROM and priced at 3299 Yuan, in the flash sale. Buyers also have the options of Bright black and glacier silver colors to choose from. The more pricey Mi Note 2 Global Edition is yet to go on sales by the way.

According to reports, the next flash sale would come up on November 8 and seriously, that is a long time to wait for someone who missed out on getting his own copy during this first sale. The Mi Note 2 is worth the wait, though.

Just as a reminder, the Xiaomi MIX would be up for pre-order or reservations on November 3. Perhaps you are interested in having one of that, you can wait for it but predictably, the flash sale might not even last up to 20 seconds considering that Xiaomi doesn’t have a large enough stock of the Mi MIX due to its ceramic body. Getting it would almost be the same as winning the lottery, don’t you think?

Xiaomi’s surprising new addition yesterday was none other than the big bezel-less screen Xiaomi Mix / Mi Mix. This is the company’s most revolutionary smartphone yet and comes with the largest screen to body ratio on a smartphone yet — 91.3%. Yes, like you may have already seen in the hands-on images, the display takes up a majority of the phone’s front, and it looks beautiful.

However, if you have been wondering why Xiaomi decided to call it the Mi Mix, today, we have got an answer. A few hours back, Xiaomi’s Director of Product Planning, Sun Peng, threw some light on why the company’s concept smartphone is called the Mix.

He came up with this name a while back for the company’s ecosystem products, but turns out, it suits better for the company’s futuristic smartphone.

MIX is an acronym for ‘Made In Xierqi’. The company seems to be moving its office in Xierqi after two years and naming it as the MIX hints that the phone is from the future.

So, now you know, there is a logic behind the naming of Xiaomi’s most innovative product.

Xiaomi Mix Monthly Production Limited Due To Its Ceramic Body

Xiaomi yesterday unveiled not one but three innovative devices, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, Xiaomi Mix, and VR glass. Of the three, the Xiaomi Mix came in as a spectacular device that stood out among the pack with its 6.4-inch display which accounted for up to 91.3% of the entire screen. Quite surprisingly, the Xiaomi Mix was referred to as a Concept phone despite the fact that the phone would actually go on sale on November 4.

Now the idea of a concept phone had all along being that of a creative machine not yet ready for production but Xiaomi seems to have redefined that. It has now emerged that the reason why the Mix was referred to as a concept phone is because production is actually limited by the Ceramic body it features. This was made bare by Kevin Wang, Director of research in China for IHS electronics via a Weibo post.

The Xiaomi Mix uses a 3D ceramic body which is similar to the Mi 5 Pro edition and it could be recalled that the ceramic body slows down production. In this regard, Xiaomi might not likely be producing more than 10,000 units of the device monthly. With the beauty on offer, it is certain production wouldn’t meet the demand that would crop up when the device goes on sale starting November 4. So if you’re interested in this concept phone that is actually going to be sold, get ready for the sales’ opening.

Along the specs line, the Xiaomi Mix features a Snapdragon 821 chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB / 256GB storage options. The device also comes with a 6.4-inch display along with other features such as SAP assisted GPS, HD audio processor (192 KHz / 24 bit) and a large 4400mAh battery. At the back, there will be a 16MP sensor.

Further, the exclusive 6GB + 128GB edition gets 18K gold plated rings around the camera and the fingerprint sensor. There’s a 299 Yuan gift included in the box — a premium leather cover. As for the price, the Xiaomi Mix 6GB RAM +128GB ROM will retail at 3499 Yuan ( around $516), while the 6GB RAM + 256GB ROM version would start at 3999 Yuan (approx. $590). The Xiaomi Mix 3499 Yuan edition will go on sale on November 4. Reservations for the sale have already started!

Xiaomi surprised everyone today, not with the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, but with a new concept smartphone, the Xiaomi Mix. While initially, we thought that this was just a concept device that we may never get to see in real life, the company soon revealed that the phone is real and will be up for sale as well.

Till now, we have seen a few amazing renders of this full screen (except for a small portion at the bottom) smartphone, but the company also seems to have showcased the device at the event location. We have got some hands on images of the Xiaomi Mix, and it looks like a great smartphone.

Xiaomi Reveals Concept Phone ‘MIX’: 6.4-inches of Pure Display Experience (91.1% Screen Proportion)

With the Mi Note 2, Xiaomi showed that it is not behind competitors when it comes to using high-end premium technology on its smartphones. However, the company further wants to show its fans what a future smartphone could look like. Enter Xiaomi Mix, a concept smartphone that gives us a glimpse of how advanced technology can transform our future smartphone experience.

To be honest, we all have at least once imagined such a smartphone, but with the Xiaomi Mix, the company wants to show that a full-screen flagship with minimal bezels is really possible.

The Xiaomi Mix is 6.4-inches of pure awesome display experience. The phone boasts of 91.1% screen to body ratio, which means it can be compact despite its large display. In fact, the company says that with such high screen proportion the Mix’s size is very close to the iPhone 7 Plus! This means you get much better display experience around the same size as current 5.5-inch display smartphones.

However, with the display covering a majority of the body, there are some challenges that have to be overcome. For example, since the top is covered with display, where would you place the camera, ear piece and the proximity sensor?

So, the Xiaomi Mix will be using a cantilever piezoelectric ceramic technology which replaces the traditional ear piece. For proximity sensor, instead of a traditional infrared sensor, the phone will use a special ultrasonic sensor. And finally for the camera, the company says that the Mix could feature a camera at the bottom bezel, and you can rotate the phone to capture great selfies. Further, to increase the screen area, the company will be using virtual keys with 17:9 custom display.

As for the body, the Xiaomi Mix will be using a 3D Ceramic cover. Yes, similar to the Mi 5 Pro edition which they couldn’t mass produce in required quantities. Xiaomi further revealed that this design was conceptualized by Mr. Philippe Starck, the popular French designer known for his amazing designs.

The Xiaomi Mix will feature Snapdragon 821 chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB / 256GB storage options. There will be a 6.4-inch display along with other features such as SAP assisted GPS, HD audio processor (192 KHz / 24 bit) and a large 4400mAh battery. At the back, there will be a 16MP sensor. Further, the exclusive 6GB + 128GB edition gets 18K gold plated rings around the camera and the fingerprint sensor. There’s a 299 Yuan gift included in the box — a premium leather cover.
