A month ago, the Honor Pad 9 (review)  made its way to India. The tablet retails at ₹24,999 in the country.

At this price, it competes with the most value-for-money tablet on the market — Xiaomi Pad 6.

If you feel like Xiaomi’s offering is a bit more expensive, there’s a cheaper alternative in the form of Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024. There’s also Lenovo Tab P12 which costs about the same.

These three competitors are offered by brands that have a better presence in India than Honor. So you can theoretically expect a better after-sales experience from these products.

So the question arises whether the Honor Pad 9 is worth buying in India. Let’s find out.

Honor Pad 9 is one of the few large-screen tablets

There aren’t many tablets with a huge display on the market, especially in the budget range. The Honor Pad 9 is one of those rare specimens.

It sports a 12.1-inch LCD panel. This screen offers a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. The display not only supports 10-bit color depth but also up to a 120Hz refresh rate and 500 nits peak brightness level.

There’s only one such large-screen tablet in this price segment. That product is Lenovo Tab P12 (review), which retails at ₹25,999.

Lenovo’s offering comes with an even larger 12.7-inch LCD screen with a higher resolution (2944 x 1840 pixels). But the refresh rate is limited to 60Hz and the peak brightness level is lower at 400 nits.

So if a large display is your priority, there’s no better option than Honor Pad 9 in its segment.

Honor Pad 9 ships with a useful accessory

Unlike most tablets, the Honor Pad 9 comes bundled with a first-party accessory. To be precise, it ships with a Bluetooth keyboard.

This official accessory converts the tablet into a productivity machine. It also acts as a protective case.

Though other tablets in the segment also have first-party accessories, they need to be purchased separately. This increases the overall price of the product.

However, if you are more of a stylus person, you may want to consider aforementioned Lenovo Tab P12 or Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2024. The latter offers an overall better stylus experience.

The Samsung product is yet to be released in India but when it does, it will cost about the same as Honor Pad 9. The 2022 edition of Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is currently up for grabs at a cheaper price, however, we recommend you get the latest model.

Honor Pad 9 faces stiff competition

Anyhoo, the biggest competitor for Honor Pad 9 or any other tablet in this segment is the Xiaomi Pad 6. It continues to be the best value in the Android space even after a year.

The device is not only powered by a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chip but also boots feature-rich HyperOS software. Thus, it will age better compared to other tablets in the segment.

It is costlier than the Honor Pad 9 at ₹25,999. Additionally, you will have to spend extra for the stylus and keyboard accessories. 

But if you can afford the price difference, there’s no better Android tablet in this segment.

It’s been a long time since we reviewed a Xiaomi Pad, last time when we reviewed the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro, it didn’t really surprise us much. After 10 months, we’re back to see how Xiaomi’s tablet has improved. This Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 is also the first HyperOS tablet we got. I’m using a Xiaomi 14 right now, and it is HyperOS as well. So in a little while I’ll also test whether the Xiaomi Interconnectivity is any good or not.

Design

The 6S Pro keeps up the design with the Xiaomi 14 series: a flat frame, equal-width bezels, and a camera module with four circles inside a rectangle. It’s not that I have any complaints about the design, it’s just that the 50 MP AI Camera is placed in a way that makes it look cheap to me. Speaking of the camera, the main camera is 50 MP, and there’s a 2 MP depth of field camera.

The front camera is 32MP. The image quality is like this. With a top spec of 1080p 30fps, it’s certainly good enough for online meetings. After all, you can’t expect an Android tablet to have a great front camera, right?

Other specs are no different from the 6 Pro. USB 3.2 Gen 1, supports video output. Fingerprint and power 2-in-1 button, metal unibody. Does not support TF card expansion. The three contacts at the back are used to connect the keyboard. But the difference is that the 6S Pro also can connect a big accessory: the Xiaomi SU7, which is also known as Xiaomi’s first electric car. In the future, you can put it in your car and use it as a part of the Center console.

Display

As you can tell from its name, 12.4 stands for the screen size. I’ll write the specs here.

Aside from the bigger size, it’s also changed from a 16:9 ratio to a 3:2 ratio, which Xiaomi says is a more office-friendly size because you can see more content when editing Excel, PowerPoint, or viewing web pages. I don’t know how many people would use a tablet for office work though, but that’s what Xiaomi did. I do prefer the 16:9 ratio, as 3:2 will always leave black areas up and down when watching most online videos. Especially when watching movies, it can be very distracting.

Stylus

Although this stylus is not an exclusive accessory for the 6S Pro, I still want to brag a little about it. This stylus has a lot of features and a good number of them work better than the Apple Pencil. For example, when it comes to writing, in addition to converting both the Chinese and English you write into text, you can also insert text like this.

And you can also change lines like this. It even works as a Laser pointer, easily pointing out places on the tablet that you want someone to focus on. It also has low latency, I used the Apple Pencil and iPad Mini 6 to compare it to, and even I think the Xiaomi would have lower latency.

Benchmark, Gaming, Charging & Battery

The 6S Pro has an upgraded processor from 8+ Gen 1 to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Even though the peak performance is not as good as the newest 8 Gen 3 phones, the extra large thermal area allows it to play games for long periods of time without downclocking. I played Genshin for 40 minutes without any problems at all. (Data collected from Perfdog)

So why is the framerate locked at 55 after 20 minutes? It’s not because of a lack of performance, it’s because I have turned on Picture priority mode. The maximum frame rate in this mode is locked at 55. However, the image quality gets much better when it’s turned on, which is a huge improvement to the gaming experience, especially for a tablet with a big screen.

120W of charging power coupled with a 10,000mAh battery makes it the king of battery life and charging as a tablet. About its hardware, I have nothing to complain about.

New feature

The 6S Pro software has been upgraded as well. It’s the previous PC mode that was missing for a while, now it’s back but with a different name. This new Workstation mode allows all apps to stay on the desktop as floating windows. Of course, you can change their size and position as you like, just like a PC.

There is one more fun feature, they finally updated the AI art feature. Yes, it’s a feature that has been very popular recently that can generate various images with AI. For example, if I draw a flower, it can help me generate a more beautiful flower.

At present, this function is still relatively basic, it can only generate 4 images at one time. And for complex images, such as a photo of our host, Will. The generated image is quite different from the original one. If you want to be an artist, 6S Pro can’t realize this dream for you at the moment.

HyperOS for tablet

It’s time to talk about how it works with your phone. If you have a Xiaomi phone updated with HyperOS like I do, you’ll be able to do the following things: connect to your phone’s hotspot with a click when there’s no WiFi, no matter if the hotspot is on or not.

You can transfer pictures and files by touching the NFC area. You can also use this to cast your phone to the tablet. The phone can be controlled on the tablet, and transferring photos can be done by dragging the pictures over. Want to switch playback devices? Also just drag it over and the audio output device can be changed.

If you open an app on your phone, that app will also pop up in the Dock on the tablet. Click on it and the app will jump from the phone to the tablet. But this feature is currently available on very few apps, and most of the other apps don’t work.

All in all, Xiaomi Interconnectivity is all about combining your phone and tablet into one. If you own the 6S Pro, it’s a complete replacement for your phone at home, since your phone is also in this tablet.

Conclusion

The Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4 is a good tablet. If you need an 8 Gen 2 tablet with a big screen, this might just be your only option besides the expensive Samsung Galaxy Tab. With a really great stylus and HyperOS multi-device connectivity, I recommend it to everyone who owns a Xiaomi phone. But do think about whether you need a tablet that big or not, after all, a great tablet is a piece of wasted goods if you don’t use it.

Recently, an upcoming Xiaomi tablet with model number 24018RPACC was approved by China’s 3C authority. Now, a new leak, courtesy of tipster Digital Chat Station has revealed the chipset that will power the device. In addition, the leaker has also revealed its launch timeframe.

In a new leak, the tipster is seen talking about a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset-powered tablet, which has a large form factor. The leaker said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered tablet will offer an interconnected experience with other devices of the company, which suggests that it may preloaded with the HyperOS. He claimed that the tablet is scheduled to break cover by the end of February.

The same leak states that the brand is also working on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered tablets, which will feature OLED panels. It appears that these devices could be part of the Xiaomi Pad 7 series. As far as 24018RPACC is concerned, it is advisable to wait for further reports to know its final moniker.

Xiaomi returned to the tablet segment with the launch of the Xiaomi Pad 5 series in 2021. The company followed up with its successor, the Xiaomi Pad 6 series, in 2022. 

Just like the baseline Xiaomi Pad 5, the company released the vanilla Xiaomi Pad 6 in global markets. Both of these tablets fall into the mid-range segment but still offer flagship-level specs.

The latest Xiaomi Pad 6 is a refinement over its forerunner for about the same price. It is priced closer to the Apple iPad 9th Gen, which is generally considered the best affordable tablet.

Simply put, it acts as an Android alternative to Apple’s offering. Therefore, when Xiaomi India reached out to me, I was more than happy to test the product, as I had just published my review of the OnePlus Pad.

Though the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the OnePlus Pad have a huge price difference, they are prime competitors in the Android space. In this article, I have shared my experience using these two tablets.

Before I continue, I’d like to make it clear that the brands featured in this story sent out the respective products on a returnable basis. Both Xiaomi and OnePlus had no influence over the opinions expressed.

Xiaomi Pad 6 is functional, while OnePlus Pad is premium

The Xiaomi Pad 6 has a metal unibody construction, which is an upgrade over the Xiaomi Pad 5’s plastic body. It also gets the camera island from the Xiaomi 12 series.

It looks unique and is easy to identify as a Xiaomi product. But still not as distinct as the OnePlus Pad with its centrally aligned camera and stunning Halo Green color.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 has flat sides, whereas the OnePlus Pad has rounded corners. I found the Xiaomi tablet to be more comfortable to hold in my hands due to its smaller form factor. However, the OnePlus tablet feels more premium.

While the OnePlus Pad’s accessories feel more premium in terms of look and feel. The OnePlus keyboard is more expensive than the Xiaomi keyboard, but it includes a convenient and compact trackpad. The Xiaomi stylus, on the other hand, costs more but is superior in several ways with its two action buttons and longer battery life.

Sadly, none of them provide adjustable angles with their keyboard accessories. But the Xiaomi Pad 6 is more comfortable to use on the lap.

Xiaomi has superior software to OnePlus

The Xiaomi Pad 6 runs MIUI 14 for Pad, which is based on Android 13, whereas the OnePlus Pad ships with OxygenOS 13.1, which is also based on Android 13.

Xiaomi’s software is more reminiscent of iPadOS than that of the OnePlus. Interestingly, the shameless rip-off works in favor of Xiaomi.

The UI and animations look good on the big canvas. If you are coming from an iPad, you will feel at home, to some extent.

The split-screen mode is almost the same as the one you find on iPadOS. It works flawlessly for supported applications. You can even save split-screen combos as on Samsung tablets and foldables.

There is also support for floating windows. Even on top of the split view, you can open floating windows of compatible apps. Additionally, the dock is accessible from anywhere, similar to iPads.

All of these features are implemented very well, which I cannot say for the OnePlus Pad. All in all, MIUI 14 for Pad is a more polished software for Android tablets than OxygenOS 13.1.

One is good for content consumption, other for gaming

The Xiaomi Pad 6 flaunts an 11-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, 309 PPI, a 144 Hz refresh rate, and a 550 nits peak brightness level. On the other hand, the OnePlus Pad comes with a larger 11.61-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 2800 x 2000 pixels, 296 PPI, a 144Hz refresh rate, and a 500 nits maximum brightness level.

The display on the Xiaomi Pad 6 is not only sharper but also brighter, as indicated by its specifications. I also found the color profiles offered by Xiaomi to be better.

Both screens are HDR-enabled, and they even support Dolby Vision. But none of them can play Dolby Vision content on Netflix. At least the Xiaomi Pad 6 can play HDR content on Netflix, which is not possible on the OnePlus Pad.

I would still recommend the OnePlus Pad for media consumption. Because quad speakers that support Dolby Atmos are superior. They sound richer, louder, and more immersive than the Dolby Atmos-supported quad speakers present inside the Xiaomi Pad 6.

But for gaming, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is better as it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. This chip is well well-optimized by game developers when compared to the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset present underneath the OnePlus Pad.

Theoretically, the Dimensity 9000 SoC is more powerful than the Snapdragon 870 chip. Even the benchmarks show the same. But I had a better gameplay experience with the Qualcomm chipset.

Similarly, the stylus experience is better on the Xiaomi Pad 6. Thus, Xiaomi’s latest tablet is probably the best affordable bet for budding artists and tablet gamers.

The Android tablet experience is not yet optimal

I had already discussed this in my OnePlus Pad review. It would be nice to have ChromeOS on hardware like this instead of Android.

The lack of optimized apps and a proper desktop-level web experience kills the joy of using Android tablets. I use Twitter, Instagram, and Threads on a regular basis. None of these social media platforms have a proper app for Android tablets.

The Twitter app behaves like a blown-up version of the mobile app. While Instagram and Threads apps are displayed in a letterboxed view.

There is no universal ecosystem feature like Phone Hub on ChromeOS. Instead, you get the OEM’s implementation on both the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the OnePlus Pad. Xiaomi calls it MIUI+, whereas, on the OnePlus, it is named Multi Screen Connect. These features only work with compatible smartphones from the respective brands.

Android on tablets will only get better when more developers optimize their applications to make efficient use of the large canvas and multitasking features.

Clearly, one of them is more value for money

As you can see, the Xiaomi Pad 6 delivers more than the OnePlus Pad despite being ₹11,000 cheaper. 

For the unaware, the Xiaomi Pad 6 retails at ₹26,999 and ₹28,999 for 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB memory configurations, respectively. The keyboard and stylus cost ₹4,999 and ₹5,999 respectively.

Whereas, the OnePlus Pad is priced at ₹37,999 and ₹39,999 for 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB memory variants, respectively. While its keyboard and stylus will set you back ₹7,999 and ₹4,999, respectively.

The OnePlus Pad is not a bad product by any means. The tablet and its accessories feel and look just as high-end as the Apple iPads and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S series. For some, the price is justified by this alone.

However, the Xiaomi Pad 6 outperforms the OnePlus Pad in the majority of other categories at a significantly lower cost. No other option in its price range comes close to matching it. 

Given the restrictions on Android tablets, the Xiaomi Pad 6 feels like a better deal than any other Android tablet just because of its great pricing and feature set.

Ahead of the Android 14 release, Xiaomi has been found testing alpha builds of its latest MIUI 15 software, hinting that development began several months ago. Xiaomi Pad 6 European pricing & availability

Starting on July 10, Xiaomi will officially commence the sale of the Xiaomi Pad 6 in the European market, presenting customers with a choice of Gravity Gray, Gold, and Mist Blue color options. By default, the tablet comes equipped with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. However, certain countries, including Spain, will receive upgraded versions featuring 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

The pricing for the Xiaomi Pad 6 is set at £369/€399 for the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant. As for the 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage version, it will not be available in the UK but will be priced at €449.99 elsewhere. However, Xiaomi is yet to confirm about its arrival in European markets. Now details about the Xiaomi Pad 6’s variants and pricing have emerged courtesy of tipster Ishan Agarwal. 

Xiaomi Pad 6 European pricing tipped

As per Agarwal, the Xiaomi Pad 6 will be offered in 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB RAM and storage configurations. These will be priced at EUR 399 and EUR 499 respectively. The starting price of the tablet in the UK market will be EUR 369. The tipster added that the Xiaomi Pad 6 will be available in Blue and Grey color options. It will skip the Gold hue. 

Details about the Xiaomi Pad 6’s exact launch date and availability remain a mystery for now. Ishan is usually accurate with his leaks, so we can expect the tablet to debut in the coming weeks. 

In Europe, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is expected to retain the same specifications as its Chinese and Indian variants. It has a boxy design and a square camera module housing a 13MP main sensor. The tablet features an 11-inch LCD display bearing a 2,8K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, and 550 nits peak brightness. It is compatible with HDR10 and Dolby Vision content. Better for Media Consumption

The OnePlus Pad has a slightly larger 11.61-inch display with more pixels (2800 x 2000) than the 11-inch screen with 2880 x 1800 pixels on the Xiaomi Pad 6. However, you will find the latter better to consume content.

Because though panels on both tablets support HDR10 and Dolby Vision, you can stream content in these HDR standards only on Xiaomi Pad 6. For some reason, OnePlus has not certified its device to play DRM-protected content in HDR.

Secondly, Xiaomi Pad 6 gives you an option to force HDR for standard content too. Also, the display is brighter at 550 nits compared to 500 nits.

Well-optimized for Gaming

The MediaTek Dimesnity 9000 SoC present inside the OnePlus Pad is more powerful than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset found inside the Xiaomi Pad 6. However, the latter chip is well-optimized for games.

Developers are known to optimize their games more for Qualcomm Snapdragon chips. That’s because most high-end smartphones feature Qualcomm chips.

As a result, despite being less powerful, the gaming experience on the Xiaomi Pad 6 is comparatively better than the OnePlus Pad. Almost all games can be played in the highest ever quality possible with little to no frame drops and lower thermals.

Comparatively Finer Software

The Xiaomi Pad 5 boots MIUI 14 for Pad compared to OxygenOS 13.1 on OnePlus Pad. Xiaomi’s software has well thought tablet-focussed features heavily inspired by iPadOS.

These features enable you to be more productive. For instance, you can multitask better in split-view along with floating windows. 

Anyway, it is worth noting that the Android app library for tablets still pales against what you get on iPadOS.

The screen can play HDR10 and Dolby Vision content. Users can also opt for Xiaomi Smart Pen 2nd Generation. The stylus offers 4096-level pressure sensitivity and up to 150-hour battery life.

Xiaomi Pad 6 surfaces on GeekBench with Snapdragon 870

For those unaware, the Chinese tech giant is gearing up to unveil the Pad 6 model in India on 13th June 2023. However, the Xiaomi Pad 6 recently surfaced on GeekBench just ahead of its launch. Looking at the benchmark listing, we can see that the tablet carries the 23043RP34I model number and is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC chipset. In other words, the Chinese and Indian variant of the high end tablet are basically identical.

Looking at its scores, the Pad 6 received 875 scores on the single core test and 2615 points in the multi core test. The Pad 6 model from the company sports an 11 inch LCD panel that has a 2880 x 1800 pixel resolution. This display also offers an impressive 144Hz refresh rate, 10 bit color depth, HDR10, P3 color gamut, and Dolby Vision as well. The screen is certified by TUV Rheinland for low blue light level for a more comfortable viewing experience. The tablet weighs 490 grams but measures an ultra slim 6.51mm in thickness.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi Pad 6 is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC that is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. A month after its unveiling in China, the Xiaomi Pad 6 has been launched in Europe. The Xiaomi Pad 6 is a premium and high-performance tablet that could now be available in the global market. An event in Spain today is being used to highlight the properties of the Pad 6.

The new Xiaomi tablet is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset and it comes with a better performance rating than its predecessor. The tablet has an 11-inch 1800 x 2880 pixels LCD screen with 144Hz refresh rate. The Xiaomi Pad 6 runs on Android 13 atop MIUI 14. It has a 13MP main camera and an 8MP selfie camera.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 is available in 6GB and 8GB RAM options. The Xiaomi Pad 6 has an 8,840mAh non-removable LiPo battery and supports 33W wired charging, PD3.0, and QC4. The tablet weighs 490g and has dimensions of 254 x 165.2 x 6.5mm.

The Pad 6 does not come with a SIM module but supports a magnetic stylus. The screen is covered by Gorilla Glass 3 and an aluminum frame and back. The Pad 6 has peak brightness of 550 nits and a screen-to-body ratio of 86%. The internal storage options for the tablet are 128GB and 256GB.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 had been much anticipated before its recent unveiling. The Europe version of the model will be available in three color options namely gravity gray, fog blue, and champagne. Apart from Spain where the Xiaomi Pad 6 was officially announced, countries like Turkey, Russia, and Indonesia will also get the device.

Xiaomi did not release the pricing information of the Pad 6 and concrete availability details. These details are however expected soon.

Last month, the Xiaomi Pad 6 series was launched alongside the Xiaomi 13 Ultra in China. The company’s latest-gen tablets arrived almost two years after the debut of the Xiaomi Pad 5 lineup.

The Pad 6 series includes a vanilla and pro model. Interestingly, both of them share the same display but unsurprisingly, the pro variant has a better set of specs.

A couple of weeks after their release, Xiaomi reveals a compelling feature of these tablets.

Xiaomi says that the Xiaomi Pad 6 lineup comes with a deep sleep mode to extend the standby time of these devices. This mode kicks in automatically when the tablets are inactive for a longer period of time.

The company uses technologies, such as AI, Absolute Motion Detect (AMD), and geofencing to put the devices into deep sleep mode. The feature gets better with prolonged usage of the product as it adapts based on usage scenarios.

Xiaomi claims that with this new feature, the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro can achieve standby time of up to 47.9 days and 49.9 days, respectively.  There’s a difference between the two as the pro version has a larger 8,840mAh battery as opposed to an 8,600mAh cell inside the regular model.

Unlike smartphones, tablets are not used extensively. Thus, this new feature introduced by Xiaomi could be useful for users as they have to worry less about battery when they pick up their tablet days or weeks after the last charge.

Google released the first developer preview of Android 14 in February. Earlier this month, the search giant dropped the first beta.

The company is expected to officially unveil the latest version of Android next week at Google I/O 2023. We are looking forward to the beta program from partner OEMs following the keynote.

Just like in previous years, Xiaomi will be part of the beta program. MIUI codebase reveals that the brand will be releasing Android 14 beta builds for 4 devices.

According to Xiaomiui, Xiaomi has started testing Android 14 builds on the following two smartphones and two tablets since April 25.

• Xiaomi Pad 6
• Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro

Next week, the company will likely officially announce the beta program for the general public. However, you will have to be a recruited tester to try out the latest software. The registrations for the recruitment will possibly open post-announcement.

Xiaomi will be accompanied by other OEMs providing Android 14 beta builds for their devices. Most other companies don’t require you to register to try out beta software. You can simply download and install beta builds by following instructions on their official developer/community website.

Android 14 is expected to hit stable in August. OEMs will begin rolling out the update to their eligible smartphones and tablets after that.

Earlier this week, Xiaomi unveiled its most anticipated smartphone — Xiaomi 13 Ultra. Alongside this phone, the company also announced a bunch of other products.

Some of these devices are Xiaomi Smart Band 8 and Xiaomi Pad 6 series. The company’s eighth-gen fitness tracker arrives with an OLED panel, whereas its sixth-gen tablets sport an LCD screen.

However, the supplier of these displays is one and the same. The said supplier has formally announced it, following the launch of these products.

According to ITHome, Tianma has officially revealed that it is the supplier of OLED displays for the Xiaomi Smart Band 8. This rounded rectangular screen measures 1.62 inches diagonally.

The panel comes with a 326 PPI and a 60Hz refresh rate. Hence, it is sharp as well as smooth. The display supports up to 600 nits peak brightness level, AOD (Always-on Display), and it is accompanied by an ambient light sensor for automatic brightness.

Similarly, Tianma is also supplying the LCD panels for the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro. For the unaware, Xiaomi also sources panels from TCL CSOT for its latest tablets.

These tablets are equipped with the same display. Their 11-inch screen offers a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels, 10-bit color depth, 309 PPI, and a 144Hz refresh rate. This 16:10 panel supports up to 240Hz touch sampling rate, 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, 550 nits peak brightness level, stylus input, HDR10, and Dolby Vision.

Both the Xiaomi Smart Band 8 and Xiaomi Pad 6 series are expected to release outside mainland China in the coming weeks.

Xiaomi recently launched its Pad 6 series of tablets alongside the Xiaomi 13 Ultra smartphone in China. The Pad 6 series consists of two different models; Xiaomi Pad 6 and Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro. Both offer some impressive set of specifications, such as Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets and an 11-inch 144Hz high refresh rate panel.

An official announcement from TCL CSOT (China Star Optoelectronic Technology) reveals that Xiaomi is using TCL’s panel on the Xiaomi Pad 6 and the Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro. The screen uses TCL’s own LTPS tech which makes the panel less power-hungry and thereby results in saving more battery.

This display offers support for a 30-144Hz adaptive refresh rate, which automatically adjusts based on the content being displayed on the screen. Compared to conventional panels, LTPS Plus technology brings significant improvements for flicker at even lower brightness levels.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 series’ display boasts a screen resolution of 2880×1880 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 309ppi. The panel provides comprehensive DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and a peak brightness of up to 550 nits. The screen features a 16:10 aspect ratio and supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision content.

TCL CSOT is a prominent display manufacturer in China, renowned for its cutting-edge curved screen technologies designed for smartphones and tablets. The company has made significant investments in developing its own OLED production lines. Notably, TCL CSOT has previously supplied displays for the Mi 10, featuring the first domestically produced flexible AMOLED screen with a punch-hole.

Xiaomi has launched an upgraded version of its Pad tablet series ow in its sixth generation. The new models in the Xiaomi Pad 6 series include the Xiaomi Pad 6 and a higher Pad 6 Pro model.

The Xiaomi Pad 6 and 6 Pro both arrive with 11-inch LCD displays with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels. The display features support for a 144Hz refresh rate which is pretty impressive. The display also supports P3 color gamut, 10bit color depth, HDR10, and Dolby Vision. Also onboard is support for environmental color temperature sensing which means the brightness and color temperature is automatically adjusted based on the ambient light intensity. The display is certified by TUV Rheinland for hardware level low blue light making it safe for the eyes.

In terms of the build, the slate adopts an all-metal integrated body with a hidden antenna design. The tablet weighs 490g and has thickness of 6.51mm. Both the Xiaomi Pad 6 and Pad 6 Pro are available in black, gold and mountain blue.

The processor and camera configuration is where the two tablets differ. The Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro uses a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ processor. For optics, the Pad 6 Pro features a 50MP main camera teaming up with a 2MP depth-of-field sensor in a dual camera arrangemet. At the front, there is an impressive 20MP camera for selfies and video call. Under the hood, the Pad 6 Pro crams a 8600mAh battery with support for 67W fast charge which can charge the device from 0-100% in 62 minutes. The two tablet models come with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 flash storage. While the Pad 6 Pro come with 8GB RAM/12GB RAM and 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage combo, the Pad 6 is available in 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB storage combination. You also get four speakers, Dolby Atmos support, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface.

For interface, the device runs on MIUI Pad 14 OS based on Android 13. Xiaomi has included some battery-saving features on the slates, one of which is a deep sleep mode. The mode extends the standby time up to 47.9 days. The tablets also come with a first meeting toolbox which includes built-in convenient functions that are frequently used in meeting scenes, such as beauty, fill light, portrait centering, noise reduction, subtitle transcription, etc.
