Xiaomi‘s product offerings for this year was somewhat unconventional in that the company released several models in the mid-range and budget segment that were competing with each other. One of such model is the Redmi 5 Plus that was later launched in India as Redmi Note 5. Interestingly, the company earlier this year launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India around February and in March, China and the rest of the world got the Redmi Note 5 which is almost similar to Indias Redmi Note 5 Pro. This competition may have pushed out the Redmi Note 5 (Redmi 5 Plus) as the Chinese company has reportedly discontinued the sales of the model in India. 

Xiaomi perhaps decided to launch the Redmi 5 Plus as Redmi Note 5 due to the popularity of the Redmi Note 4 in India. However, the device was never really able to reach up to that expectation. That is mostly because the Redmi Note 5 Pro was announced a few months later with a similar design but a dual camera setup as well as improved hardware.

Thus, it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that the company has decided to pull the plugs on the model. The phone is already delisted on Mi.com and is no longer available on the shelves of all major online and offline retailers. Moreover, the Redmi Note 5 was sold for INR9,999 for the base variant and INR11,999 for the higher version and this price is very close to that of the Redmi 6 Pro in India which makes it more redundant. Apart from that, there are speculations Xiaomi will soon launch the Redmi Note 6 in India but we are not sure that will happen until the first quarter of 2019.

Xiaomi’s European expansion continues: the Chinese company has just made its way in France and in two days it will officially land in Italy with its first physical store in the peninsula. The company has just held a press conference announcing its plans in France and it officially brought three products in the market. The first and the most important product in France is the smartphone Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, which is the best flagship from the company alongside Xiaomi Mi 7 and Mi 8 which will be officially unveiled on May 31. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is being offered with a price tag of €499,90 for the base variant with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, while it costs €599,90 for the 6/128 GB variant.

It comes with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display which sports a tri-bezel-less design and an 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, it has an octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset by Qualcomm, while on its rear side there is a 12 MP dual camera setup and a fingerprint reader.

With the newly-announced Meizu M6s, another one of the mainstream Chinese smartphone manufacturers has finally joined the bezel-less club. The company has decided to release a phone which has a great quality-price ratio, but at the same time offers innovation and good mid-range performance. That is why we think it is time to compare it with one of the most wanted Chinese midranges: Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. First of all, let’s see their specs: Meizu M6S vs Redmi 5 Plus.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus offers a slightly bigger display which is also more detailed due to the higher resolution. Aesthetically, we define the Meizu M6s more refined and comfortable to use, due to its smaller dimensions and the side-mounted fingerprint reader. Further, the pressure sensor together with the Super mBack technology enables very comfortable gestures to navigate into the UI. According to Geekbench, Meizu M6s has a much better SoC than the Snapdragon 625 found on the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus: the hexa-core Samsung Exynos 7872 scored better points. But we will have to test it personally to see how it behaves in every scenario.

We did not find the 13 MP camera on the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus so exciting, so there’s a good chance that the 16 MP sensor of the M6s developed by Samsung will do a better job at shooting photos. On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus will probably have a much longer battery life thanks to its 4000 mAh lithium unit and the power-efficient Snapdragon 625 SoC. The software sides are both very good, MIUI and Flyme are two of the best UIs in the smartphones market, even though both the versions found on these two phones are still based on Android Nougat. But in general, MIUI has been the more popular one among the two. The prices are almost equivalent, Meizu M6s has just been launched in China with a price tag of about $186/€152 and Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus can actually be found at the same price, more or less.

Display and battery are the two areas where Redmi 5 Plus does well. However, the Meizu M6S has an edge with the innovative halo button (Super mBack) and a side mounted fingerprint sensor, that could be more convenient to use on a daily basis. Even Exynos 7872 can be called as one of the highlights of the phone.

The dual camera setup of Huawei Enjoy 7S should also be better than the single camera found on Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, but we cannot say for sure until we see the first camera samples. On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus has a much bigger battery and a longer battery life.

Personally, I would go for the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus because it has a way longer battery life and it makes a big difference these days. A week ago, Xiaomi unveiled its first affordable phone with an 18:9 near-borderless display. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 was also announced alongside Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. Someone might already think that the Plus version, due to its mid-end specs and its wide display, will replace the Redmi Note 5. In this article, you can find our first Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Hands on pictures to see its design in a detailed way.

The screen is surely the biggest innovation of this phone if we compare it with its predecessor. While Redmi 4 Pro had a small 5-inch panel, this handset offers a huge 5.99-inch display (just like Xiaomi Mi Mix 2!) with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. Even though the display is big, the phone remains quite compact due to its narrow bezels which reminds me of LG G6 (dimensions: 158.8 x 75.45 x 8.05, weight: 179.5 grams). If you buy the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, you will have to say goodbye to capacitive keys outside the screen, while the front camera remains at the same place, alongside the front speaker for calls.

The body of Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is entirely made of aluminum and it is not so different from the one of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, but the look and the ergonomics have been improved with more rounded borders. The rear side houses a single camera with a resolution of 12 MP which has a gold rim as you can see in the photos, but it is not gold-plated like the one of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. Under the camera, you can find a dual LED, dual-tone flash, and a circular fingerprint reader just like other midrange Xiaomi phones. On the upper side, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus has a 3.5 mm audio jack for headphones and an IR sensor to use it as a remote.

On the left side, there is a dual SIM tray: the phone sports a hybrid dual SIM slot, you can choose to use the second slot as an additional SIM slot or a micro SD slot to expand the internal storage. On the right side you can find the volume rocker and the power key, while on the lower part there is a micro USB port to charge the battery (yes… still micro), the mono speaker and the microphone. The Gold variant in the photos is not the only color option, there is also a Rose Gold variant, a Black, and a Blue one. Other specs include a Snapdragon 625 SoC, 3 or 4 GB of RAM, 32 or 64 GB of internal storage (depending on the variant) and a 4000 mAh battery. The listing price in China goes from 151 to 196 dollars.

The camera department has never been a very strong point of Xiaomi phones, but with the latest devices launched by the Chinese giant, things are seeming to change. Look at the Mi Note 3 for example, which has been the first phone to enter the top 10 best camera phones by DxOMark. Now, thanks to our Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus Camera samples, you can check if the quality has improved even on the affordable phones, besides high-end and flagship ones.

On the rear side, for photography, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus sports a single camera with a resolution of 12 MP and a f/2.2 aperture. It supports phase detection autofocus and HDR, and below the sensor, there is a dual LED dual-tone flash. It can record video at a max resolution of 1080p at 30 fps. The front camera has a 5 MP resolution and it can record videos in 1080p too. Photos shot in good light conditions show a pretty nice level of detail and also with a nice color accuracy. However, when it comes to low light conditions (indoor and at night), the level of noise increases in a noticeable way and there is a consistent loss of detail. Its not something that’s unacceptable for a phone on its price range, but we are definitely far from top camera phones.

Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus can shoot acceptable photos, but it is not a phone which is mainly focused on the camera. So if your main concern is the camera department, you’d better go for the Xiaomi Mi A1 which can be found at a similar price. Regarding other specs, the handset sports a near-borderless display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, a size of 5.99 inches, and a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. Under the hood, there is an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor by Qualcomm, which can run at a max frequency of 2 GHz.

The SoC is paired with 3 or 4 GB of RAM depending on the variant that you choose to buy, and 32 or 64 GB of internal storage which you can expand with a micro SD. The battery has a capacity of 4000 mAh, which is way more than Xiaomi Mi A1 (3080 mAh). The body is entirely made of metal and it has been announced in four different hues: Gold, Rose Gold, Blue, and Black. In China, the device has been launched with a price tag of about 151 dollars for the base variant and 196 dollars for the 4 GB RAM version.

While 360 is still an unknown company worldwide, Xiaomi is the most famous one together with Huawei. We still do not know how 360 N6 has been optimized, so we can not tell you for sure which will have better performances, but on the paper, N6 wins.

We still can not compare cameras but it looks decent from these samples. Also, note that this device offers a beauty mode for selfies based on AI (and probably even a better selfie camera), while its opponent does not. At last, 360 N6 has a bigger battery: 1000 mAh more than Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus. The only aspect of the specs sheet in which we define R5P better is the software: we like MIUI 9 more, and it will be more supported in the long-term. Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus has been launched in China with a price that starts from 135 dollars (114 euros), while the price of 360 N6 starts from 210 dollars (178 euros) and the phone will be available only in Asia. 360 N6 is a much better phone but I personally prefer Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus because the price is a lot more affordable and it will be better supported by the company.

But is it worth buying the new midrange or is it better to stick with the old one due to its price which is dropping a lot in this period? The main difference between the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is in their displays. The camera should also be slightly improved on the Redmi 5 Plus. In the battery department, we’ll have to wait for an official test as the larger screen size of the new Redmi model may affect the battery life, but it still shouldn’t be significant.

The listing price of Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus starts from 151 dollars in China (about 128 euros, but it will be higher outside China), while you can actually buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 at about 151 dollars (128€) all around the world thanks to the online street prices. So, if you are out to purchase both of these devices right now, the Redmi Note 4 will be cheaper for you.

Which one should you buy? In my opinion, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus actually has better value for money, so it is worth spending some extra dollar to buy the model as you will get the latest device that should be supported for a longer period. Plus, there’s the modern full screen design that you get, at a budget price tag.

However, the big drawback right now is getting hold of the Redmi 5 Plus at a decent price. Given that the phone was launched just recently, online stores are still to offer the phone for a good price tag.

Xiaomi launched its latest smartphones — Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus last week. Today, the phones will go on sale for the first time in China. The phones are the first devices from the China-based smartphone manufacturer to feature a full-screen display.

The first sale will begin today, i.e. December 12 at 10 AM in China. Both the devices will be available through retailers like Xiaomi Mall, Jingdong Mall, Suning Tesco and Lynx.

The smartphone features full metallic design body and will be available in four color options, including Gold, Rose Gold, Blue and Black.

Since the device comes with full-screen display, it lacks capacitive touch buttons. Instead, the company has opted to provide on-screen buttons on Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus.

The Redmi 5 features a 5.7-inch HD+ display with screen resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 octa-core processor, clocked at 1.8GHz and coupled with Adreno 506 graphics.

The device will be available in two variants based on memory configuration — 2GB RAM with 16GB internal storage and 3GB RAM with 32GB onboard storage.

The phone features a 12-megapixel rear camera sensor with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25 µm pixel size and soft-LED flash. It comes equipped with phase detection auto-focus (PDAF), dark light enhancement technology, facial recognition, HDR, Panorama and Burst mode.

On the front, there is a 5-megapixel selfie snapper that comes with features like Smart Beauty 5.0, facial recognition, and full HD video recording at 30 fps. The device runs on Android Nougat operating system based MIUI 9.

Connectivity options on the device include hybrid dual SIM slot with support for microSD card, microUSB, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, audio jack and GPS. The phone is fuelled by a 3,300mAh non-removable battery.

On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus flaunts a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with screen resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor — the same one that powers the Redmi Note 4 and Mi A1.

The phone will be available in two memory configurations — one with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage while the other model packs 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage. The device carries the usual set of connectivity options, similar to its smaller sibling.

The camera specifications of the Redmi 5 Plus model are same as the Redmi 5. This model also comes with MIUI 9 pre-installed, which is based on Android Nougat operating system. The phone is fuelled by a 4,000mAh battery, which according to Xiaomi, provides battery life of around two days on single charge.

Both smartphones features a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device for added security features. The fingerprint scanner is placed just below the camera module.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 with 2GB RAM will be available for 799 Yuan (approximately $120) while the 3GB RAM will cost 899 Yuan (approximately $135). When it comes to budget smartphones, you must accept compromises if you want to buy a decent device at an affordable price. Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus and Honor 7X are among the best midrange phones released in Q4 2017 and we also consider them two of the best smartphones in terms of quality-price ratio. Seeing that they are two of the best options to choose in their price range, we think it is important to compare their specs to establish which among them — Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus vs Honor 7X has the best value for money.

While there isn’t much difference between the displays of these phones, it is important to note that Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus offers a huge battery, which will surely offer a longer battery life. There are no significant differences on the hardware side as well, but Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus has a SoC which is famous for having a very low energy consumption. Unfortunately, we still do not know much about the camera performances of these devices, but we think Honor 7X will shoot more interesting photos with its dual camera setup.

Xiaomi finally took the wraps off the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus, its first full-screen model in the mid-range segment. Xiaomi’s concept Mi Mix which was released last year can be credited to be the catalyst that spurred the trend we are presently witnessing in the smartphone industry. However, the Samsung Galaxy S8 played a great role and since the launch of the flagship Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus this year, we haven’t been able to keep count with the stats of models with such design.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus utilises the full-screen design but some might not be too impressed with it because it looks like Xiaomi just slightly reduced the bezels around the screen. However, there is still a considerable and noticeable amount of bezels on all four sides. The large screen form factor makes the reduced bezels quite obvious, though. The Redmi 5 comes in at 5.7 inches HD+ (1440 x 720p) screen while the Redmi 5 Plus has a display size of 5.99 inches with FHD+ (2160 x 1080p) resolution. Both models have a rear design similar to the Redmi 4X. There is a single camera and a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor under the camera.

Apart from the full-screen design, one other aspect the Redmi 5 models tickle is their prices. The Redmi 5 starts at just 799 Yuan ($120) for the base 2GBRAM + 16GB storage variant. There is a second variant having 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage and it still comes cheap at 899 Yuan (~$135). The picture appears to contain the real smartphones with the specs printed on the removable film usually placed on the screen of Xiaomi phones. The specs listed on the screen align with those we have seen on TENAA and in several leaks and rumours that have appeared in the past.

The Redmi 5 is shown to come with a phablet-sized 5.7-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is also listed to pack a Snapdragon 450 chipset and a 12MP rear camera. The front camera is promoted as having a soft flash and most of all, the phone is said t have a 13-day standby time. This might be just a gimmick anyway. On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus comes with a bigger 5.99-inch 18:9 display. It is powered by a Snapdragon 625 processor and also comes with a selfie soft flash. The Redmi 5 Plus is also listed with a 12MP rear camera and a 17 days standby time which suggests it is coming with a larger battery. In less than 24 hours time, Xiaomi will unveil the entire details.

Xiaomi is all set to launch its new smartphones Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus tomorrow, i.e. December 7. But, ahead of the official launch, both the devices have been listed on online retailer Aliexpress.

The seller, who goes by the name “Xiaomi Online Store” has listed Redmi 5 in Black and Gold colour options for $199 while the Blue and Pink colour models are priced at $209. On the other hand, the bigger sibling of the smartphone — Redmi 5 Plus has been listed at a price of $249, while the Pink and Blue colour options will cost $10 more.

The seller doesn’t seem to have any connection with Xiaomi. On the listing, there is a disclaimer stating that the phone is still in “pre-sale” stage, hence the specs and pricing listed are official.

We had earlier reported that the smartphones will go on sale from December 12, with Redmi 5 starting at 699 Yuan (approx. $106) and the Redmi 5 Plus start at 999 Yuan (approx. $151). While the smartphones will be launched tomorrow, we already know the specifications of the devices, thanks to several previous leaks.

Recently, Xiaomi revealed an official sneak preview of the upcoming Redmi 5 duo. In the images, we can clearly see the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus sporting full-screen design with narrow bezels. It seems that the devices come with full metallic chassis with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will feature a 5.7-inch HD+ display with screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It is expected to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, which is the first chipset in the Snapdragon 400 series that is using a 14mm process technology.

The standard variant will come with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There will be another variant of the phone with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. The device will come with a 12-megapixel camera sensor at the back and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. The smartphone will be fueled by a 3,300mAh battery.

On the other hand, the Redmi 5 Plus is expected to feature a 5.99-inch screen that will carry support for FHD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, the same processor that is powering the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.

It will be available in two variants — 3GB RAM with 32GB internal storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage. The device will come with a dual camera setup at the back, featuring a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. The Redmi 5 Plus will pack a 4,000mAh battery.

Xiaomi may be planning the launch of its main Redmi series model which is said to go by the name Redmi 5 Plus. The supposed box casing of the device had earlier been spotted online and we had even seen a couple of photos purported to be live photos of the model. Once again, new renders of the Redmi 5 Plus have appeared online and it shows what the front and rear views would look like. We can’t verify the authenticity of the leak but it bears semblance with the previously leaked real photos of the Redmi 5 Plus.

One major highlight we can pick up from the latest renders remains the full-screen design the device is said to feature. While there are still doubts in some quarters if Xiaomi will completely overhaul the Redmi series with the adoption of a full-screen design, there is a strong likelihood that would be the case. The barrage of leaks pointing at a full-screen design could well have confirmed the Redmi 5 Plus’ design.

Apart from the display design, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is also seen to have a dual camera setup at the rear which is aligned in the vertical direction. The rear design looks very much like that of the Mi Note 3, except that it packs a  dual camera setup with the LED flash located under the camera. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Specs wise, the Redmi 5 Plus is said to feature a Snapdragon 625/630 processor backed by a 3GB RAM while there will be a 32GB of internal storage. There may likely be another high memory variant. There is no word yet as to when the Redmi-series models would be launched but that won’t be too far away.

November 11 is a popular day for e-commerce in China and it is known as Double 11 (11.11) and ahead of the deal day, several mobile phone manufacturers are quietly preparing for one last push to grab some of the market shares. Xiaomi is frantically preparing for the day, with the realization that a good outing during 11.11 would see it hit the 100 million mark in terms of shipment this year.  The tech company dubbed “Apple of China” is preparing to release up to three models including the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. Both models have made the rounds in leaks and rumours lately and we still keep getting more. Right now, a couple of real-life photos said to be those of the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus have appeared online.

The Redmi 5 Plus may likely be the first model Xiaomi will release ahead of the double 11 sales promotion. The device promises to be a hot selling one considering the unique design. For the first time, Xiaomi is bringing the full-screen design to the budget segment. The Redmi 5 Plus features an 18: 9 aspect ratio with ultra-thin bezels at all four sides. There is no capacitive home button onboard due to the high screen-to-body ratio.

The rear design looks very much similar to Xiaomi’s first dual camera smartphone – the Redmi Pro released last year. It packs a dual camera setup aligned vertically. Just under the cameras lie the LED flash and thereafter you get the fingerprint sensor. The Redmi 5 Plus will likely be bigger in size. It is tipped as packing a 5.99-inch display with 2160 x 1080p (FHD+) resolution which effectively means it will have an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is also expected to pack a Snapdragon 625 chip but there are talks of a Snapdragon 450 onboard. The device will come in two versions with 3GB RAM and 4GB RM respectively. The dual cameras are said to be a 12MP+ 5MP combination. The Redmi 5 Plus lower version may be the one with a D 450 chip and it may come with a 720p resolution but 18:9 aspect ratio (HD+). The lower version may likely come as cheap as 799 Yuan. These are just speculation, though, the actual details would be outed when Xiaomi takes the wrap off the device.
