A new report by the popular research firm Counterpoint has just revealed the top-selling smartphones of April 2018 in the global market. The top 10 published by Counterpoint highlights the supremacy of Samsung and Apple in the mobile sector, and Xiaomi is the only other brand which appeared in the ranking. At the first place, there are Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, followed by Apple iPhone X, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8.

The second half of the ranking starts with Xiaomi Redmi 5A, which is the most entry-level and affordable smartphone by the Chinese hi-tech giant. At the 7th place, there is again Apple with its older iPhone 6, while at the 8th place there is Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus that is known as Redmi Note 5 in India.

The last two spots are taken by iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8. Note that every phone in the ranking except the ones by Xiaomi is a flagship or a former flagship. The success of Samsung Galaxy S8 derives from consistent price cuts by the Korean giant on its former flagship.

It is good to see that most people still prefer to buy a flagship, even though the differences between them and affordable devices are decreasing day by day.

Overall, the Nubia M2 is a great budget phone. I love its design and excellent build quality, great overall performance, solid cameras and a very good battery life. The only thing that may disappoint you is outdated Android 6 but at least the phone is very snappy.

Marking the end of its introductory pricing offer, Xiaomi has now increased the pricing for its Redmi 5A 2GB RAM model in India to Rs. 5,999, which roughly converts to $92.

At the time of launch, the China-based company had announced that the Redmi 5A 2GB RAM model will be available at a discounted price for Rs. 4,999 for the first 5 million units. It now seems that the company has achieved this milestone within 3 months.

However, Xiaomi has not yet confirmed whether the company has sold 5 million units. Earlier, Manu Kumar Jain, Vice President of Xiaomi and Managing Director of Xiaomi India had tweeted that the company sold 1 million units of the Redmi 5A entry-level smartphone in less than a month.

The company has announced that the Redmi 5A will now be available at its original price of Rs. 5,999 through online retailer Flipkart as well as company’s own online store in India. The 3GB RAM model is priced at Rs. 6,999 in India.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A was launched in India in December last year but was first announced in China in October. The phone features a 5-inch HD display with 720 x 1280 pixels screen resolution. The device comes in two models based on the memory configuration — 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage and 3GB RAM with 32GB of onboard storage.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 425 chipset that features a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor. This is the same chipset that powers Redmi Y1 Lite, Redmi 4A, Motorola Moto E4, ASUS ZenFone 4 Max, among others.

The Redmi 5A features a f/2.2 aperture 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The 5-element rear lens is equipped with features like LED flash, HDR, Panorama, PDAF and Beauty Filter.

Running on MIUI 9, which is based on Android Nougat operating system, the phone is powered by a 3,000mAh battery, which according to the company offers 8 days of standby time, 21 hours of music playback and 7 hours of video playback.

When launched in India, the phone was available in two colors — Dark Grey and Gold. Later, the company introduced another color variant — Rose Gold.

Xiaomi has gone official with a new memory version of the Redmi 5A. The new version comes with 3GB of RAM as well as 32GB of internal storage and is priced at just 699 Yuan (~$110). The price is just 100 Yuan higher than the 599-Yuan 2GB RAM variant but apart from the improved memory, the device retains the design and other specs of the 2GB RAM variant. We had expected this variant to be announced in due cause considering the Redmi 4A also had the same 3GB RAM variant introduced some months after its launch. Buyers will have the chance to snag up this variant on March 12 at 10 AM via Jingdong (JD.com).

Xiaomi Redmi 5A was first launched in October 2017 as a successor to highly successful Redmi 4A which made its debut in 2016 but turned out to be one of Xiaomi’s highest-selling product alongside the Redmi Note 4.  The device features an ultra-light all-metal body which is one aspect where it is different from the Redmi 4A. The design is also very much similar to the Redmi 4A in many aspects like the bottom speaker grills at the back and the rear camera which is tilted to the left side. The little difference in the design at the rear is that the speaker grills are located under the fused antenna band design in this case unlike on the Redmi 4A where it is on top the bottom line which looks like antenna band line. At the top, the line runs through the rear camera and flash on the Redmi 4A but in this case, the antenna line is under the rear camera and flash. 

Talking about the specs, Xiaomi Redmi 5A sports a 5-inch display with HD resolution (1280 x 720p). The device is powered by a Quad-core Snapdragon 425 chipset clocked at 1.2GHz which is paired with a 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable internal storage. At the back, the phone features a 13MP sensor with PDAF and LED flash. While the front camera is a 5MP sensor. It packs a 3,000mAh battery which is touted to deliver up to 8 days of standby time.

Furthermore, the Redmi 5A runs MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat but in on course to get Android Oreo update. Xiaomi has announced its latest entry-level smartphone in Indonesia — the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. The smartphone was originally launched in China a couple of months ago and was recently launched in India with some customizations.

In Indonesia, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A has been priced at Rp 999.000, which roughly converts to $74 — cheaper than the phone’s price in China where it is available for 599 Yuan (approximately $96). It will go on sale from 27th December and will be available for purchase through Erajaya Retail Group as well as Xiaomi‘s official online store.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A comes with a metallic matte finish and will be available in three colour options — Elegant Gold, Dark Grey and Rose Gold.

The phone features a 5-inch HD display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 425 quad-core processor, which is clocked at 1.4 GHz.

The Redmi 5A was launched in two variants — one with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage while the other model packs 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. However, in Indonesia, only the 2GB RAM model will be available. There is also a microSD card slot to further expand the storage capacity.

After launching the Redmi 5A smartphone out of the blue last month, Xiaomi has now introduced a new color variant of the phone — Lake Blue. This new variant of the smartphone retains the same set of specifications.

Priced at 599 Yuan (approx. $91), the Redmi 5A Lake Blue model will be available for pre-order from today onwards and will go on sale from November 24. The smartphone is already available in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver Gray and Rose Gold colors.

Xiaomi Redmi 5A was announced Monday with budget specs and a 599 Yuan price tag (around $90) which is even less than what you can get the Redmi 4A for on some online retail platforms. The Redmi 5A utilizes a metal body which is the major distinguishing feature separating the Redmi 5A from the last year’s 4A which has a plastic back.

The Redmi 5A also comes with a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera and 5MP front-facing camera which is no different from the camera setup of the Redmi 4A. Where the difference lies is that the Redmi 5A’s rear camera comes with Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) which is expected to add some more quality to the camera. The Redmi 4A received accolades for its nice camera output despite packing budget specs. The Redmi 5A is expected to go even further in its picture quality. Xiaomi’s president Li Bin has now shared some camera samples captured by the Redmi 5A ‘s rear camera. The sample photos can’t really be said to be out of this world but for a budget smartphone, they are very much commendable. Xiaomi Redmi 5A is official. The budget smartphone was released today by Xiaomi without any prior indication. The tech giant skipped rolling out the drums for the launch, perhaps because the model is a cheap device with quite little features that would make it stand out from the others. The Redmi 5A takes over the reins from the Redmi 4A which was launched last year. The new model packs almost the same specifications as the Redmi 4A, save some few differences.

Design

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A features an ultra-light all-metal body which is one aspect where it is different from the Redmi 4A. It packs a slightly smaller 3,000mAh battery whereas the Redmi 4A has a 3,120mAh battery under its hood. That shouldn’t be much of a concern because the SD 425 chip is a 64-bit processor which ensures the phone isn’t power hungry just like the power-efficient Redmi 4A. Besides, 120mAh is a negligible difference. Xiaomi touts the battery of having 8 days of standby time.

Furthermore, the Redmi 5A will get its interface from the MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat. Xiaomi‘s next budget smartphone offering is expected to be the Redmi 5A which has now appeared on TENAA showing its complete specification. A device fingered to be the Xiaomi Redmi 5A had earlier appeared on TENAA as MCT3B. But that model seems to be just a variant of the Redmi 5A. The Redmi 5A has again appeared on TENAA, this time with the model number MCE3B. The specifications are markedly similar to the first model but there is, even more, details on this new listing.

The new TENAA listing shows the Redmi 5A will be available in 2GB RAM and 3GB RAM versions, as well as 16GB  and 32GB storage variants. The Redmi 5A features a 5-inch  display with HD resolution (1280 x 720p) and has a body thickness of 8.35mm. The entire device weighs 137g and it is listed with an array of colour options such as Black, Rose Gold, Gold, White, Blue, Red, Pink, Gray, and Silver.

In addition, the Redmi 5A is equipped with a 1.4GHz Quad-core processor with entire network support and the processor is believed to be a Snapdragon 425 processor. The device is listed with a memory combination of 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. On the camera angle, there is an 8MP rear camera as well as a 5MP front-facing shooter. The device will get its juice from a generous 3,000mAh battery while the interface will be based on Android 7.1.2 Operating system.

The TENAA listing is accompanied with photos of the Redmi 5A and the photos show the device will adorn a metal body manufactured using a three-stage design. The Redmi 5A is expected to come with a cheap price tag which should hover around 599 Yuan for the 2GB+16GB variant and 699 Yuan for the 3GB+32GB variant.
