The Processor for the Router is built on a 14nm Process

The Qualcomm IPQ 9554 processor is a Networking Pro 620, which is a tri-band Wi-Fi 7 network platform that supports six data streams. The processor is built on a 14nm process, with a quad-core A73 specification and can reach up to 2.2GHz. However, the version carried by the Xiaomi Router 7000 is a 1.5GHz version.

In terms of speed, the Xiaomi Router 7000 has two high-performance signal amplifiers added to the 2.4GHz frequency band. The theoretical speed of 2.4G can reach 1376.1Mbps, and the maximum speed of 5G is 5764.8Mbps. It also supports dual WAN/dual LAN up to 5Gbps aggregation.

According to Xiaomi, the HomeWiFi mesh router is designed for large size apartments (150m²) or up to 5 stories of an apartment complex (1500m²). The router comes in pair of two units that automatically link together once turned on. At once, a maximum of 10 units can be linked together to cover the maximum area of 1500m².

Coming to the features, it offers a total of three band options including 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and mesh. Each HomeWiFi unit comes equipped with eight antennas and eight signal amplifiers for maximum range. The device is also capable of connecting up to 600 smart devices at once without much impact on performance.

Other than that, there are also a couple more interesting features offered with the router. New information has just surfaced that reveals that Xiaomi is planning on releasing a flagship Router that features Wi-Fi 6 alongside its flagship smartphone series, the Xiaomi Mi 10. The information was shared on Weibo, which is a Chinese microblogging website, earlier today (7th February 2020).

For those unaware, Wi-Fi 6 is the latest standard in WiFi technology (Wireless Fidelity). It is also known as AX WiFi or 802.11ax WiFi and is the next generation succeeding the current 802.11ac WiFi standard. The latter which is commonly used in most routers suffers from a series of issues, including network congestion, lacking coverage area and the constant need to switch SSIDs. However, Wi-Fi 6 seems to improve in all of the above mentioned areas.

Compared to its predecessor, Wi-Fi 6 optimizes power consumption and coverage capabilities of a router, supporting multi high speed concurrent connections. In other words, the connection is stronger with a wider range and can better support multiple connections at the same time. Other benefits include lower latency overall, high rate of data transmission and more.

Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship Wi-Fi router offering is expected to support this new WiFi technology standard. Furthermore, the Xiaomi Mi 10 series, the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are also expected to support Wi-Fi 6, making the router compatible with the smartphones as well. Currently, the new standard has yet to be highly adopted and become more active in commercial circulation.

Unfortunately, information is still scarce regarding the launch and finer details are unavailable, for now. Xiaomi is often referred to as the “Apple of China” because of its innovative products and when we think of Apple we are reminded of its late founder Steve Jobs. Xiaomi is always keen to copy Apple’s innovations and that may have veered into non-tech related aspect. In a recent Weibo post, the company’s social media handlers shared a poster with the caption “One more thing”. Now, this was Steve Job’s legendary parting shot during the company’s launch events and it is usually followed by the unexpected announcement of a new product.

Seems Xiaomi is going to be following that path and may likely be announcing another product on February 20 aside from the Mi 9. As for what the product could be, the Mi Router Weibo handle did not leave us in doubt indicating that a new router would be joining the fray. There is no detail about the router but we expect it to be an upgrade over the current crop of high-end routers.

Xiaomi has quietly launched a new version of its Wi-Fi amplifier which comes as a potable USB dongle. The Xiaomi Wi-Fi Amplifier 2 is a built-in PCB antenna which has a doubled up signal strength than its predecessor. The transmission rate is also increased to 300Mbps and has the amazing capacity of taking connections from a maximum of 16 devices connected at the same time.

Xiaomi routers have been a highly sought after product in the router business since it was first released. This is perhaps due to their cheap price tags, portability and durable price tags. Xiaomi has been teasing about a new launch for the past couple of days and as predicted, the company announced a brand new router along with a couple of other products at an event in China.

The company has made a lot of changes in the new Xiaomi router, including its design. Now, the device looks more of a router than a CPU, with a flatter rectangular design. It looks almost as thick as the older generation model, probably due to the massive storage that comes inside.

Like the previous model, this new router comes with 1TB storage. However, those who want to take things to a whole new level can now opt for a 6TB version as well. Yes, the company has finally decided to make this option available for those users who are always in short of storage.

Even under the hood, the Xiaomi router sports some changes. First of all, it will be the first device to feature Broadcom Broadcom 4709C dual-core processor clocked at 1.4Ghz which improves performance by 40% as compared to the previous version. This along with the 512MB RAM on board should ensure seamless connection to the internet as well as consistent access to high-speed internet.

The router comes with 2×2 external PCB dual antenna array with advanced signal tracking technology. The company claims that this ensures better connectivity throughout the home. Moreover, the overall structure is designed to keep the device cool.

As for the features, you can do a lot of things with the 6TB (if you opt for that model) storage inside. You can connect your smartphone, tablet or even laptop to the router and backup all your contents on the device. These photos, videos, and other files are accessible remotely from anywhere in the world, provided you have an internet connection.  You can even connect your camera with Wi-Fi to the router to backup all of your photos.

Another important feature is the through the app. Users can download and install the Xiaomi router app from the app store and can search for a number of titles. They can then keep the file for download remotely and the router will start downloading it back at home. So, once the user gets back, he or she can directly access that file.

Yesterday noon, @小米路由器 (the Weibo account)announced that tomorrow, Xiaomi will release new hardware for free. The slogan for this campaign as shown by the ad below is “Out with the fake, and in with the real.” What does this mean?

Based on the poster, it looks like Xiaomi’s new hardware will be smart home appliance. There is a drawing of a lamp bulb and dock in the poster. Xiaomi has started producing home appliances with the Mi Router as the entry point and the Mi phone as the end point.

That’s right. This is the low-priced edition of Xiaomi’s Mi Router Mini which will be sold for 129 RMB. Lei Jun said that they will try to start mass production in May, and that small-scale closed beta testing will start this Friday. At Xiaomi headquarters, Hardware Reinvention found a Mi Router Mini that had just been manufactured this month. According to the report, Xiaomi is still making some improvements on its software functions. It bears a strong resemblance to Apple’s Ipad and has been humorously compared to the Yoga tablet’s router.

Paper-packaged, specifications are posted at the top, uses MTK solution, MT7620A processor, a clock rate of 580MHz, and 128MB memory. It should be noted that it supports a 2.5GHz+5GHz double frequency and an omnidirectional antenna.

Only the white edition can be seen for now.

Through a press conference held in Beijing, on Wednesday April 23rd, 2014, Xiaomi Founder & CEO, Lei jun, said that countries are Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, Brazil, and Mexico. Xiaomi targeting smart phone sales will increase 5 times to 100 million units in 2015.

“You could certainly call it acceleration,” said Xiaomi President & Co-founder, Bin Lin, “This is our mission and our belief that this model should also be able to achieve success outside of China.”

In reaching consumers, Xiaomi is doing direct sales through online method. This method is said to be able to keep a cheap price to the consumer.

At a press conference yesterday, Xiaomi is also launched two new products such as routers. The first version is priced at only 699 yuan and the other is offers with 129 yuan. It’s router is be able to control household appliances. Previously , this product is rumored as a trackpad because its shape and design is similar with the Apple Magic Trackpad.

Lei Jun, the CEO of Xiaomi, also announced that the company would launch its products in Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, Brazil, and Mexico in 2014.

Lei Jun explained that the 802.11 ac router had already underwent three beta tests and that it could run at a speed of 1167 mbps. “A new toy for enthusiasts”— The Xiaomi Router can be considered to be the most fun wi-fi router to date and can be assembled by the users themselves.

Beamforming is an important feature of AC routers and can be used to get a stronger signal.

First off, I believe many people have a hard time defining Xiaomi. Is it a hardware company or a home appliance company or an Internet company? It’s very hard to define – actually I feel Xiaomi is an Internet company. Only with Internet companies will we have this thought process on making products. I won’t bring out all the important points in my talk; I want to speak simply about a few. One is focus. In the past, we’ve tried quite a few things, but we really only produced three products. One is mobile phones, one is televisions – televisions of course include TV set-top boxes – and also a router. I don’t know if you can figure out what these products have in common. Why these three products? I want to elaborate briefly on how these three products are all platforms.

What is the smart home? From some users’ perspectives, is the “smart home” just changing the concept of remote control? Is using mobile apps to control household appliances the “smart home”? Or is it just consolidating the pile of remote controls at home inside a smart phone? This is also a way of making a smart home. Or does it require having things prepared before finishing building a home or having the workers knock through some walls, wiring the Internet network into the house beforehand? There will also be many users who think the smart home is high-tech, a distant thing, then that it’s expensive. Is it not that any electronic plus the word “smart” reads as more expensive? However, I’m skeptical about the above viewpoints. Xiaomi’s defining of the smart home includes two important words. One is “automatic”. Remote control, mobile phone control is not the important point. So, I’m very much in agreement with Director Zhang’s viewpoint – that is automation. Maybe automation is at the heart of the smart home.

People are lazy, no one wants to throw away their remote controls and then use their phones to control [appliances]. Also, what’s the point of being able to control an electric fan from another part of the country? Many things happen automatically, like when I wake up at 8, the router can connect all devices. What state do you need to be in to make the user satisfied? This start up condition might be an alarm, or it might use a wristband that the user wears. The wristband has a video monitor function; press it and it sleeps, press it and it wakes up. When waking up in the morning, I press the wristband and it talks to all the routers and the router talks to all the devices. Also when PM2.5 reaches a certain numerical value, the router will react – the router will tell the other devices. The router is the information hub, the control center.

The first important word is “automatic”; the second important word is “slowly”. I believe changing the whole home’s appliances is something that users will not accept. I also believe labeling products “smart” and selling them at a high price is something users won’t accept. I think if just one lamp becomes smart, maybe the whole home will smarten. Smart home appliances – it’s all actually a very subtle thing. For example, we open the door and the light turns on. This is the smart experience that’s easiest to accept. Like in the washroom, when you wake up the water automatically runs. This is very subtle but also very easy for people to accept. So the smart home is not experienced with the entire set of home appliances, but rather a subtle experience, slowly integrated into the entire set of home appliances. We will allow this to slowly happen.

Smart control center. Let’s look at everything connected to the router. I’ll take the coffee machine, electric fan, other devices – every little dot, after we click on it, we can know each device’s state. For example, we click on the TV, and we’ll know what program it’s showing. This is a native protocol, and for the many devices that fulfill this protocol, the user simply clicks one time and can enter the application quickly. Change the communications protocol to AP, then enter the device ID and password, avoiding a complicated process. The picture over there is what we define as the “smart” scenario. It shows the arrival at the workplace and leaving the workplace, the arrival time. There’s no need to click it.To let the office devices start running, you only need to bring this cell phone to the office. Cell phones follow people, so my router knows my phone already returned to this office. It’ll tell my TV to turn on, fan to start turning, coffee machine to brew tea. This can be achieved; this is a subtle experience, no need to spend a lot of money to experience this.
