Xiaomi has a growing presence in several countries in Europe and one of them is Russia. Since it made its debut in Russia in 2017 the company has grown to become one of the top 5 smartphone vendors in the country. There are indications that Xiaomi is planning to expand its presence in Russia According to Kommersant, Xiaomi and Huawei are planning to expand their network of retail stores in Russia.

Kommersant cited sources in the communications market who hinted that Xiaomi plans to open about 100 stores this year while Huawei plans to open 30 stores this 2019. The report says Huawei plans to grow its stores from 150 to 200. The Chinese market leader is said to be scouting for partners and is already in talks with Inventive Retail Group. Huawei presently has six stores in Russia, four located in Moscow and one each in Ufa and Novosibirsk. On the other hand, Xiaomi has 30 Mi stores spread across different cities and also 29 “islands” in shopping centres. Xiaomi has stores in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, Samara, Tomsk, Khabarovsk and Nizhny Novgorod.

The Mi brand achieved this feat in the third quarter (Q3) 2017 according to the latest research finding by Counterpoint’s Market Monitor service.

In a statement made available to the press, Counterpoint’s Associate Director, Tarun Pathak disclosed that Xiaomi grew by 325 percent YoY and was the fastest growing smartphone brand in Russia in both online as well as offline sales. Counterpoint also revealed that smartphone shipments in Russia grew by 7 percent annually and 38 percent sequentially during Q3 2017. The growth of the handset market in Russia during the third quarter is fingered to have been driven by aggressive marketing campaigns by new Chinese brands and subsequent price cuts from all the leading retail chains as a response to the high consumer spending precipitated by the new academic year and a ‘back-to-school’ season.

Xiaomi and Apple emerged as the leading smartphone brands in online sales during the quarter. Online sales channel also saw an increase from 12% to 15% YoY in Russia. Overall, Samsung led the smartphone push with market shares of 20 percent and 29 percent respectively during Q3 2017. Other global brands, including Samsung, raked in almost 58 percent of the smartphone market, closely followed by Chinese brands with 32 percent market share. Xiaomi with a growth of 325 percent, Bright and Quick (177 percent) and Huawei (140 percent) were the fastest growing Chinese brands YoY. Local Russian brands also grew in the quarter as well.

No doubt, results such as this and the strong outing in India would spur Xiaomi to venture more and more into other regions where fans are anxiously waiting to get their products directly.

Today, it adds the flagship Mi 6 and the recently launched Mi Max 2 to the phones available in the Eurasian country.

Xiaomi Mi 6

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is a dual camera flagship powered by the Snapdragon 853. It has a 5.15-inch full HD display, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Xiaomi has settled for a dual rear camera configuration akin to that of the iPhone 7 Plus.

The main sensor is a 12MP 1.25μm wide-angle sensor with a f/1.8 aperture, 4-axis OIS and 6P lens and the second sensor is another 12MP 1.0μm telephoto lens with a f/2.6 aperture, PDAF and a focus range of 52mm which lets you take portrait mode images.

For the selfie camera, Xiaomi has put an 8MP camera that records 1080p videos at 30fps. The Mi 6 has a 3350mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0.

Those who plan to get it should remember that the Mi 6 doesn’t have an audio jack but works with USB Type-C headphones. The device is also splash resistant.

The Mi 6 will be available for purchase on the 6th of July at 11:00 AM Moscow time for 29,990 Rubles. You can head to the official Mi Russia site and register to get notified.

Xiaomi Mi Max 2

The Mi Max 2 is for those who enjoy the extra screen estate of a tablet but still want a phone. The 6.44-inch 1080p display should more than suffice for any video watching or media consumption you’re into.

There is a Snapdragon 625 paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. You shouldn’t worry about battery life as the combination of the 5300mAh non-removable battery and the power-efficient SD625 should get you through a whole day at most.

The Mi Max 2 also packs an impressive Sony IMX386 sensor on the rear and a 5MP front facing camera. There is 9V/2A fast charging to help refill the large battery as fast as possible.

The Mi Max 2 will sell for 19,9990 Rubles.

Mi Band 2

The official site also has the Mi Band 2 but there is no price at the moment. There is a chance it will also go on sale on July 6 alongside the phones.

Russia is a big market for Xiaomi literally and figuratively. The Chinese manufacturer says it plans to open 16 retail stores in the country by the end of the year.

The company announced the launch of three “new” smartphones which are going on sale in the Russian market immediately. The phones are relatively not new as they are already available in China but this is the first time they will be officially going on sale outside China. If you are wondering why Russia? TheMi Note 2 price is pegged at 34,990 rubles and Xiaomi is offering a free Mi Piston Air headphone with every purchase made before May 2.
