Xiaomi has brought its latest budget-friendly offering, the Redmi 15, to the UK market. The new phone offers a gigantic battery, a super smooth display, and all the essentials you’d want in an affordable daily driver. So here’s everything you need to know about its price, specs, and features.

Redmi 15 Debuts in the UK

The Chinese tech giant unveiled the Redmi 15 in the UK as an entry level model, but there are some downgrades to achieve the affordable price tag. Xiaomi just released the Redmi 15 5G in the Indian market with the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 SoC. However, the version of the Redmi 15 arriving in the UK features the weaker Snapdragon 685 SoC. So this model only supports 4G networking. This chip is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The Redmi 15 is powered by a massive 7,000mAh battery pack, which supports 33W wired fast charging and 18W reverse charging. It sports a tall 6.9-inch IPS LCD panel with a 1080p resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, DC dimming support, Wet Touch Technology 2.0 and 850 nits of peak brightness. For photography, the rear has a 50MP camera while the front houses an 8MP shooter for selfies and video calls.

Other notable features include a hybrid dual SIM with a microSD card slot for storage expansion, Bluetooth 5.1, and NFC. Xiaomi has just announced the Redmi 15 in the UK for £159 for the 6GB + 128GB model. Meanwhile, the higher end 8GB + 256GB variant costs £189. This model is available for purchase on the brand’s official UK website.

The Mi 11 Ultra has made its way to the UK about a week earlier than it was scheduled to go on sale in Europe. The phone which went on sale today for the first time is now sold out.

The Mi 11 Ultra is available in a single configuration with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There is only one color variant and it is black. With a price tag of £1199, Xiaomi is not offering any free gifts with the purchase, however, you do get double Mi Points. So, for the Mi 11 Ultra, you get 2398 points. Xiaomi says that Mi Points can be used towards offsetting up to 20% off the price of future purchases. Do note that 100 Mi Points is equivalent to £1.

While we wait for the Mi 11 Ultra to be restocked, Xiaomi also has the Mi 11 Lite 5G available for £369, £30 less than its official price. The phone is available in Citrus Yellow, Mint Green, and Truffle Black, and has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Mi 11 Special Edition (Lei Jun) 5G is also available for purchase for £799 and it has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Those who order this special edition get a free Mi Watch worth £119.

You will be able to avail these discounted prices and free gifts on the official Xiaomi UK site between today, May 6, and Sunday, May 9.

Xiaomi has closed its first and only Mi Store in the United Kingdom but don’t panic, it is not related to the Coronavirus epidemic. The company decided to shut the doors of the store located in the Westfield shopping center in Sheperd’s Bush, London, on March 5, 2020.

Already, the Westfield London website has been updated with a disclaimer that the UK Mi Store is no longer open for trading. Further, the Twitter account for the store is now offline.

The UK Mi Store first opened shop in November 2018 and had in stock several Xiaomi products ranging from smartphones, smart bands, smart home gadgets, electric scooters, umbrellas etc. However, the store soon became notorious for not having most of the products in stock. Apart from that, the prices of the products in stock were markedly higher than what is obtainable online. Thus, the closure may be tied to low patronage and a desire to cut cost and focus on more vibrant markets in Europe 

A spokesperson for the Chinese company did release a statement to Android Authority that the closure is an adjustment to its local retail strategy due to its fast growing business in Western Europe. The company also enjoined fans in the UK to purchase their favourite Xiaomi products through its official website mi.com/uk and other official channels that would be announced during future product launch events. Xiaomi’s products are also available via Amazon in the UK, US, Europe and India.

It appears Honor isn’t the only Chinese brand that has ties to the X-Men: Dark Phoenix Movie. Xiaomi UK also has a special X-Men fan event on May 22.

The announcement which was first made last week on Twitter revealed the “Redmi Note 7 partnership” with the blockbuster movie. Last Friday, the account began choosing lucky winners to attend a special fan event on Wednesday, May 22, in Central London at 6 PM.

The tweet says the event will feature special guests, fun activities, and a sneak peek at the new film. There is no mention of a special edition Redmi Note 7, so don’t get your hopes high.

Last month, Redmi announced a partnership with Marvel for Avengers: Endgame. We didn’t hear anything afterward regarding what the partnership entailed but we did come across photos of Redmi phones with special Avengers: Endgame retail boxes on their official Weibo page. We do not think these special edition phones were sold since Redmi didn’t announce availability.

Last week, Xiaomi entered the UK market with the launch of select products, including Mi 8 Pro, Mi 8, Mi 8 Lite, Redmi 6A entry-level smartphone, Mi Band 3 fitness tracker, and the Mi electric scooter.

Now, the company has also opened its first brick-and-mortar Mi Store in Westfield London, making it the company’s first official Mi Store in the UK.

A day before the company officially announced its expansion to the UK market, Xiaomi had started selling its Pocophone F1 in the UK through Amazon. Now, the smartphone is available for purchase through the Mi Store as well.

Along with the Pocophone F1, the company is also selling the Redmi Note 6 Pro, which is already available in Thailand and Indonesia and is slated to launch in India on 22nd November. In the UK, the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model of the Pocophone F1 is priced at £329 (approximately $422) while the 6GB RAM + 128GB internal storage model costs £349, which roughly converts to $448.

At its Mi Store, the company is also selling two Android One smartphones — Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite. In the Redmi series, the Chinese company has five phones available in the UK — Redmi Note 6 Pro, Redmi 6, Redmi 6A, Redmi Note 5, and Redmi S2.

It has also launched three audio products — Mi In-ear Headphones Pro 2, Mi Sports Bluetooth Earphones, and Mi Headphones Comfort. It is also selling three models of its power banks, Mi Band 3 along with its different colored straps, and a motion-activated smart night light.

Xiaomi has just learned the importance of using the correct grammar when interfacing with English fans. The company recently officially made its online debut in the U.K with the launch of the Mi 8 Pro and a few other models. As a way of celebrating its new market and also to drum up patronage, the company rolled out a “flash sale” where the Mi 8 Lite and Mi A2 were offered for £1.

Interestingly, this was more or less a 10-unit giveaway but the fans had other ideas. Again, the company never disclosed the number of units that will be available for the “£1 flash sale”. So, some were left disappointed when the sales were concluded in a flash. Xiaomi at first offered three units of both phone models and then executed a follow-up with two units apiece. This brought the total units sold to 10.

Some fans took to Twitter to voice their anger over the immediate stock depletion, with one fan even going into the website code, revealing the page was programmed to show Out Of Stock once the Order button was clicked. Wilkin Lee, Sales and Marketing Director of Xiaomi UK clarified in a reply to a tweet that out of the thousands who clicked “Buy” simultaneously, the tie-breaker was done by random selection, even though the Terms & Conditions said winners would be selected on a first come, first serve basis. A complaint was even sent to UK’s regulator of advertising, the Advertising Standards Authority.

Apparently, the fans thought this was the usual flash sale with a sizable available stock. These misgivings have prompted the Chinese giant to issue an open apology. In an official statement, Xiaomi UK disclosed that the team “did not realize that the public associates this term (flash sale) with a very particular type of deal that Xiaomi has run in the past across different global markets, where more than 10 devices were available.”

Despite this hiccup, Xiaomi phones are now available in the UK via the company’s website as well as Carphone Warehouse, Three and other partners. In addition, Xiaomi will open its first Authorised bricks and mortar Mi Store on Sunday at Westfield London.

Xiaomi today officially entered the UK market with the launch of its Mi 8 Pro flagship smartphone. In the UK, Xiaomi will also open a brick-and-mortar Mi Store in Westfield London on 18th November.

Prior to the company’s official debut in the UK, Xiaomi already had a presence in the European market with Spain where the company has 10 stores. Earlier this year in May, Xiaomi started operations in France and Italy as well.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro will be available in the UK from 9th November for an off-contract price of £499, which roughly converts to $654. It comes in Transparent Titanium color and will be available through Three, Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Carphone Warehouse, Currys PC World, Very, Mobile Phones Direct, Katana and Mi.com.

The phone features a 6.21-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with screen resolution of 2248 x 1080 pixels. Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor clocked at 2.8GHz, along with Adreno 630 GPU.

It packs 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage but there’s no microSD card slot for expanding storage. The phone comes with a pressure-sensitive in-display fingerprint sensor for added security.

Coming to the camera department, the device features a dual camera setup on the back, consisting of two 12-megapixel sensors with Optical Image Stabilizer and optical zoom. On the front side, the device comes equipped with a 20-megapixel f/2.0 camera sensor housed inside the display notch.

The handset supports Dual SIM, 4G, Wi-Fi, dual-band GPS, dual–SIM support, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB OTG, and USB Type-C as connectivity options. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s MIUI 10 interface. The phone is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery with support for fast charging technology.

Along with the Mi 8 Pro, the Chinese company has launched a few other products in the UK, which includes Mi 8, Redmi 6A entry-level smartphone, Mi Band 3 fitness tracker, and the Mi electric scooter. The Redmi 6A is priced at £99 (approx. $130), the Mi Band 3 costs £27 (approximately $35), and the Mi electric scooter is priced at £399, roughly $523.

Now, a new image posted by the Chinese company reveals that Xiaomi is holding a launch event in the UK on 8th November. The image teases a smartphone having an in-display fingerprint sensor and an infinity symbol which could also be interpreted as “8”. This hints that the company is planning to launch the Mi 8 Pro in the UK. Along with the Mi 8 Pro, we also expect the company to launch a few other smartphones, including the Lite variant of the Mi 8.

The ad clearly stated that Xiaomi was aiming to launch its first UK flagship store in London.
