<p>Some say the phone being teased is the Xperia 2 which will come with a 6.1-inch screen that is smaller than the Xperia 1&#8217;s 6.5-inch display. While the screen size is smaller, it doesn&#8217;t really fit into the palm of your hand like the Xperia XZ2 Compact which has a 5&#8221; screen and even thick bezels.</p>
<p>The Xperia 2 will come with triple rear cameras, a display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It will also have NFC and a dedicated camera button.</p>

Ahead of that, the live pictures and official renders of the Xperia 2 has now been released. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-3.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-273667" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-3.jpg?x10805" alt="Sony Xperia 2" width="660" height="371" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-3.jpg 660w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-3-300x169.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px" /></a></p>
<p>The press renders were leaked by German website WinFuture.de and it shows the flagship-level smartphone from all angles. The smartphone is seen in a Red colour variant. The live pictures of the device also appeared online. The images and renders show the same design which we believe is the final Xperia 2 design.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-273665" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2.png?x10805" alt="" width="660" height="785" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2.png 660w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-252x300.png 252w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-353x420.png 353w" sizes="(max-width: 660px) 100vw, 660px" /></a></p>
<p>A triple rear camera setup is seen at the rear which is rumoured to be three 12MP sensors &#8211; all manufactured by Sony. The device also comes with an ultra-wide-angle lens and 2x optical zoom. The leaked renders also show a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a dedicated camera button, a USB Type-C port, thick bezels on the top and bottom, and a bottom-firing speaker.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-4.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-273675" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-4.jpg?x10805" alt="Sony Xperia 2" width="640" height="447" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-4.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-4-300x210.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-4-100x70.jpg 100w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/Sony-Xperia-2-4-601x420.jpg 601w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>
<p>The leak claims the upcoming Xperia model may not be called Xperia 2 but could adopt the name Xperia 1 Compact. The device is expected to pack a smaller 6.1-inch AMOLED display with a full-HD+ resolution of 1080&#215;2520 pixels and the same 21:9 super-tall aspect ratio of the original Sony Xperia 1. The device is tipped to pack a Snapdragon 855 chipset with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage. The device also comes with HDR display support.</p>

According to the documents filed with the USPTO and the EUIPO, this technology will be found in smartphones, digital cameras, computer programs, tablets, and more.</p>
<p>Given the wide range of devices mentioned above and the inclusion of computer programs in the list, S-Cinetone is most likely a software function that does not rely on a certain hardware component and has something to do with color adjustment. If anything, we expect it to be an evolution of the Cinema Pro mode on the Xperia 1 that allowed users to capture 4K video at 30FPS.</p>
<div class="su-note" style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><b>Editor&#8217;s Pick: </b><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/02/sonys-q2-2019-mobile-phone-shipment-experiences-a-55-decline-but-the-tech-giant-is-still-positive/"><b>Sony’s Q2 2019 mobile phone shipment experiences a 55% decline</b></a></div></div>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-268743" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/sony-logo-w.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="600" height="321" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/sony-logo-w.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/sony-logo-w-300x161.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>In the hardware department, the Sony Xperia 2 is expected to feature a 6.1-inch display with 4K resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, 6 GB of memory, and a 3,000 mAh battery with wireless charging support. This handset will probably be unveiled next month at IFA 2019 in Berlin, just like the Sony Xperia 1 before it.</p>
<p>Considering <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/02/sonys-q2-2019-mobile-phone-shipment-experiences-a-55-decline-but-the-tech-giant-is-still-positive/">Sony&#8217;s current situation</a>, they need the Xperia 2 to be at least a slightly bigger success than its predecessor. We know the company has some mid-range phones in the works, though we honestly doubt they&#8217;ll be priced competitively enough to go against the current juggernauts. If things go badly once again, it could spell the end for the company&#8217;s mobile division.</p>

A UAProf of a mysterious Sony smartphone dubbed as Xperia 1R with support for 5K resolution has surfaced today. It is speculated that it could be the next premium Sony phone that may debut at the IFA 2019 event in September.</p>
<p>The Sony J8220 smartphone that has a tentative name of Xperia 1R supports a screen resolution of 5040 x 2160 pixels. It offers an aspect ratio of 21:9. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/sony-xperia-1">Xperia 1</a> has a 6.5-inch display that supports 1,664 x 3,840 pixels 4K resolution. The Sony J8220 offers 70 percent more pixels through its 5K display. The screen offers offer a whopping pixel density of 899ppi. There is concrete evidence to prove that whether the Sony J8220 will debut as Xperia 2 or with some other moniker.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/07/18/sony-xperia-1r-j8220-ua-prof-reveals-5k-resolution-display/sony-j8220-phone-with-5k-display/" rel="attachment wp-att-264899"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-264899" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Sony-J8220-Phone-with-5K-Display.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="768" height="688" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Sony-J8220-Phone-with-5K-Display.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Sony-J8220-Phone-with-5K-Display-300x269.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Sony-J8220-Phone-with-5K-Display-696x624.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Sony-J8220-Phone-with-5K-Display-469x420.jpg 469w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></a></p>

<p>Earlier in this month, UAProf files of two Sony phones with model numbers J8210 and J8010 were spotted. These phones have respective code names of SPHINX and HORUS and they are equipped with 5G modems. Since the Xperia 1 has a model number of J8110, it appears that the J8210 could be the Xperia 2 or an upgraded version of Xperia 1 that may arrive as Xperia 1 Premium or Xperia 1 5G. The J8210 phone only supports full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with standard aspect ratio of 16:9. The actual screen resolution of the J8210 could be different. The J8010 supports 1644 x 3840 pixels like the Xperia 1.</p>
<p>The Japanese tech company is expected to announce Xperia 2 as well as Xperia 20 and Xperia 20 Pro mid-range phones at IFA 2019. The Xperia 20 has recently received certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/07/06/alleged-specs-of-xperia-20-leaks-powered-by-snapdragon-710/">Leaked information has revealed</a> that the Xperia 20 may come with a 6-inch full HD+ resolution supporting display with 21:9 aspect ratio. The Snapdragon 710 SoC is expected to power the smrtphone with 4 GB / 6 GB of RAM. It may release in 64 GB and 128 GB storage versions. A pair of 12-megapixel cameras could be available on the backside of the phone.</p>

Leaked information that had surfaced last month had claimed that Sony may have replaced the G-lens with ZEISS MILVUS lenses for the triple camera sensors available on the Xperia 1 premium flagship phone that was announced in February this year. According to <em>Sumahoinfo, </em>they have learnt from a staff from Sony’s Thai factory that Sony will be replacing G-lens with Carl ZEISS lenses for its smartphones.</p>
<p>The<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/09/sony-xperia-1-reportedly-features-zeiss-made-lenses/"> images of the triple camera sensors</a> of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/sony-xperia-1/">Sony Xperia 1</a> that had surfaced last month had revealed that the Japanese tech giant had used a pair of ZEISS 12-megapixel lenses and a 12-megapixel sensor from Samsung. The publication has claimed that some of the employees from the Thailand plant have also claimed that Sony has used ZEISS lenses instead of G-lens on Xperia. Hence, it appears that forthcoming premium smartphones from Sony may not feature a G lens.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/25/sony-may-have-discontinued-the-use-of-g-lens-on-its-phones/xperia-1-camera-sensors/" rel="attachment wp-att-260882"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-260882" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Xperia-1-camera-sensors.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="682" height="511" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Xperia-1-camera-sensors.jpg 682w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Xperia-1-camera-sensors-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Xperia-1-camera-sensors-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Xperia-1-camera-sensors-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Xperia-1-camera-sensors-561x420.jpg 561w" sizes="(max-width: 682px) 100vw, 682px" /></a>The ZEISS lens is said to be as good as G-lens. Hence, there may not be any significant improvement in the imaging quality with the usage of ZEISS lenses. That being said, the probable reason why the camera performance of the Xperia 1 is being praised is because of the addition of new camera functions, claims the publication.</p>

<p>Sony is reportedly working on Xperia 2 flagship phone. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/14/sony-xperia-2-cad-renders-reveal-thin-bezels-and-triple-rear-cameras-video/">CAD renders of the phone</a> were released by @OnLeaks in the previous month. The successor of the Xperia 1 is also expected to arrive with triple camera setup. Now that the company has reportedly starting ZEISS lenses on its smartphones, the Xperia 2 may not feature a G lens. Sony is yet to release an official statement to confirm that it has switched to ZEISS lenses for its smartphones.</p>

<p>The Japanese tech giant is known for using the IFA tech trade show platform for announcing its new phones in the second half of the year. Probably, the company may announce the Xperia 2 phone at the IFA 2019 event in September. Rumors have it that the Xperia 2 may come with a 6.2-inch CinemaWide display that offers 21:9 aspect ratio. It could be powered by <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/27/sony-xperia-2-with-6-2-inch-display-snapdragon-855-and-6-gb-ram-rumored-to-debut-in-september/">Snapdragon 855 chipset and 6 GB of RAM</a>.</p>

The Japanese tech giant had also launched the Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus mid-range phones alongside it. Rumors are rife that the company is planning to launch few more devices in the near future. A recent leak had revealed that the company may debut an upper mid-range smartphone called Xperia 4 by May. Fresh information reveals that the Xperia 2 is the other upcoming phone from the company that could be slotted between the Xperia 1 and Xperia 4.</p>
<h3>Sony Xperia 2 Specifications (Rumors)</h3>
<p>The Xperia 2 may come equipped with a 6.2-inch CinemaWide display that will offer an aspect ratio of 21:9 along with a screen resolution of 2880 x 1234 pixels. The handset will be measuring 161 x 70 x 8.1mm.</p>
<p>It is rumored to be powered by Snapdragon 855 mobile platform and 6 GB of RAM. It could be fueled by a 3,000mAh battery that will be equipped with support for wireless charging. The handset is unlikely to feature a 3.5mm audio jack.</p>
<figure id="attachment_240471" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-240471" style="width: 720px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/11/alleged-sony-xperia-4-with-snapdragon-710-and-219-display-could-be-in-works/sony-xperia-1-3/" rel="attachment wp-att-240471"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-240471" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Sony-Xperia-1-1.jpg?x10805" alt="Sony Xperia 1" width="720" height="422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Sony-Xperia-1-1.jpg 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/Sony-Xperia-1-1-300x176.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></a><figcaption id="caption-attachment-240471" class="wp-caption-text">Sony Xperia 1</figcaption></figure>
<p>The Xperia 2 is tipped to feature a triple camera setup. However, the exact configurations of the three camera sensors are not known yet. Probably, one of the them could be a ToF (Time of Flight) sensor. There is no information on the other specifications of the Xperia 2. The above leaks reveal that it borrows most of its specs from the Xperia 1 smartphone. The only major difference between the two phones seems to be that the Xperia 2 could be coming with a smaller and inferior display, weaker camera specs and a lower capacity battery.</p>
<p>Sony is known of using IFA tech trade show event for announcing its new phones. Hence, it is speculated that the Xperia 2 will be debuting in September this year through the IFA 2019 event. The Xperia 1 carries a price tag of $999 in the U.S. Hence, the Xperia 2 could be priced around $799.</p>
