Keeping its promise, the company has now started releasing Android Pie for the XZ Premium, XZ1, and XZ1 Compact.

The update, which carries the build number 47.2.A.0.306, comes with Sony‘s updated camera user interface, 1080p 960fps slow-motion recording, and HDR enhancement for videos. The update also includes the October security patch. The older security patch could mean that the update rollout was delayed and the company spent time on bug-fixing.

Also, it’s noteworthy that the update doesn’t include Android Pie’s new gesture-based navigation. It appears that the update rollout is region-based so you might have to wait a couple of days before the new Android Pie hits your device.

As said, Sony updated the Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact last month with Android 9.0 update, along with the same October security patch. The company has also confirmed that the Xperia XA2, Xperia XA2 Ultra, and Xperia XA2 Plus will receive the update early next year, probably in March.

Hence, Sony is expected to announce new phones such as successor editions of the Sony Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ Premium at MWC (2018) in February. Today, a leaked image of an unidentified Sony phone has appeared. Speculations have it that it could be the front view of the rumored Sony Xperia XZ2 that may succeed the Xperia XZ1.

The below image shows that the right, left and bottom sides of the display of the alleged Sony Xperia XZ2 are surrounded by ultra-thin bezels. The upper bezel is thick enough to fit in the earpiece along with selfie camera and proximity sensor.

Some of the Sony phones have featured side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Hence, it is speculated that the fingerprint sensor could be embedded in the Power key that is located on the right side of the phone. However, there is a possibility that it could be placed on the rear side of the phone.

The right edge also features buttons for controlling volume as well as a dedicated key for launching camera. The source has not revealed any information on the specifications of the phone.

The Japanese firm has adhered to OmniBalance design for its smartphones since 2013. However, rumors are rife that Sony would be ditching the design for the good to embrace bezel-less design for its upcoming smartphones like the alleged Xperia XZ2.

The rumor mill has already unearthed the entire specifications of the phone that will be succeeding the Xperia XZ1. According to leaked information, its model number is H8216 and it will be powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. Its internal storage will be 64 GB. It will be coming with a 5.48-inch display that will be supporting full HD resolution.

It could be Sony’s first phone to house dual camera setup on its back panel. It is speculated to include a pair of 12-megapixel sensors. It is likely to feature a selfie snapper of 15-megapixel. Other features of the phone include Android 8.1 Oreo and 3,130mAh battery.

There is no way to confirm whether the above image really belongs to Sony Xperia XZ1’s successor. Hence, we advise our readers to digest this report with a pinch of salt.

However, a recent report had revealed that the Japanese tech giant will be launching its forthcoming smartphones with new design. Since the information had surfaced from a forum post, it could not be fully trusted. Today, the managing director of Sony, Kenichiro Hibi has confirmed that the Sony will be “soon” adopting a new design for its next-generation smartphones.

Sony has released its new smartphones, the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ Premium with thick bezels above and below the screen when other smartphone OEMs such as Samsung, LG and Apple have launched premium phones with full screen design. Hibi said that in order to stay competitive in the premium smartphone market, Sony will be launching forthcoming smartphones with new design language. The OmniBalance design will continue to exist as long as X series smartphones are available in the market.

Read More: New Sony Phablet Spotted on GFXBench Database

A leaked information that had surfaced in the previous week had revealed that the new design concept that Sony will be using on its next-generation phones is called Mirai. Since the rivaling brands are launching phones with elongated display and bezel-less design, it is likely that the 2018 smartphones from the company may feature a full screen design. However, Hibi refrained from sharing any information on the forthcoming phones.

In April, Japan Display had launched a new 18:9 Full Active LCD panel. Since Sony is known for using display panels from Japan Display, the company launch 2018 Xperia phones with Full Active display.

He stated that the Sony will focus on launching high-end smartphones in India. The company will also continue to release mid-range smartphones priced above Rs. 20,000 (~$305) to survive in a highly competitive market like India. Sony has recently released the Xperia XA1 Plus with a pricing of Rs. 24,990 (~$380).

Even though the Sony Xperia XZ1 smartphone has released with flagship specifications, the company has dubbed at it as “mass-market flagship.” Hence, it is priced less than the competitor smartphones. The XZ1 has arrived in India with a price tag of Rs. 44,990 (~$684) and the Xperia XZ Premium is available for Rs. 60,000 (~$913).

Sony is known for announcing at Mobile World Congress around in February and at IFA expo in September. It is likely that the Japanese tech giant may unveil bezel-less smartphones at the upcoming 2018 Mobile World Congress event.

(source)

The rumor mill has revealed that the Japanese company would be debuting the Sony Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact with flagship specs at the upcoming launch event. Reports have also revealed that the company may unveil Xperia X1 too at IFA 2017. It appears that it will be also unveiling a new phablet as a new device with model number G8541 has appeared on GFXBench benchmarking site.

The Sony G8541 has a 6.2-inch full HD display and it is driven by Snapdragon 835 chipset as the listing show the presence of Adreno 540 graphics along with 4 GB of RAM. The internal storage of the device is 128 GB and it is preinstalled with Android 8.0 Oreo that is overlaid with Sony’s own UI.

It features a rear camera of 19-megapixel that will carry support for 4K video recording. It could be the same Motion Eye sensor with 960 fps slow motion video shooting support that is available on Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZ smartphones. It has a selfie camera 12-megapixel that also supports 4K video shooting. Some of its other features include NFC, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer, proximity sensor and GPS.

Interestingly, the Sony G8541 listing includes another display variant of 12.3 inches which supports 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. It could either be a miscalculation or there is a possibility that Sony may release a tablet variant of the same device. Reports suggest that the G8541 could be a successor of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra phablet from 2013. Hence, the Sony G8541 is speculated to launch as Xperia XZ1 Ultra. Other rumors suggest that it would be sporting a IP68 certified chassis.

Both smartphones are expected to arrive with 19-megapixel rear cameras and 12-megapixel front cameras. They are also preinstalled with Android 8.0 Oreo. Yesterday, the leaked renders of Sony Xperia XZ1 were revealed by well-known leakster, Roland Quandt. The leakster has today revealed the official looking renders of the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact.

The images of the Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact shows that its design similar to its bigger sibling, the Xperia XZ1. Also, the smartphone has a thicker appeal. The handset seems to be sporting a polycarbonate body with matte finish and its antenna lines are not visible.

Such a design was also seen on the Xperia XA1 Ultra. Like the XA1 Ultra, the XZ1 Compact may feature a NFC chip at the center of its back panel. Another distinctive feature of the Xperia XZ1 Compact that is similar with its bigger sibling is that it features a horizontally aligned LED flash that is placed some distance away from rear camera.

There is a possibility that the fingerprint reader would be embedded under the Power button on the right edge of the phone. The right side of the Xperia XZ1 Compact also features a volume rocker and a dedicated camera button. The topside of the smartphone features a 3.5mm audio jack and the microSD card / SIM card slot is present on the left side of the phone. The frontside features a pair of speakers placed respectively on the top and bottom bezels.

Both devices are scheduled to launch exactly a week from today at a special event in Berlin.

In the last few days there have been lots of leaks regarding the pricing details and specifications of both phones. Less than 24 hours ago, the Xperia XZ1 was listed on Amazon UK, revealing a black and pink variant. Though the images and other info about the device have been taken down, we were able to get our hands on the photos thanks to Roland Quandt.

The images are of both color variants mentioned above and give us a good look at the device before the official launch.

The Xperia XZ1 shares nearly the same design with the Xperia XZ Premium released earlier this year. The easily notable differences are the length of the speaker cut-outs up front; the design of the frame; and the position of the NFC chip. The NFC chip is placed in the middle of the phone on the XZ Premium but sits at the top in the Xperia XZ1. You can see the NFC logo that indicates the position of the chip sits next to the LED flash and laser focus module.

The pictures closely resemble the renders which popped up on Twitter recently, making it very likely that this is indeed the Xperia XZ1.

The device looks like one which is all set to be shipped and so has a waterproof covering with its key specs imprinted in Sony style. From the print, we could see that the Xperia XZ1 will indeed feature a 5.2-inch display which should have a resolution of 1920 x 1080p. The device is also listed as packing a Snapdragon 835 processor with 64GB UFS storage. the RAM isn’t revealed but we expect the XZ1 to pack a 4GB RAM. Other listed details include a 13MP selfie shooter and a 19MP camera at the rear while there is also IP65/68 waterproof and dustproof properties.

On the design, the Sony Xperia XZ1’s shape is typically Sony style with the absence of a front fingerprint sensor. The device comes with Hi-Res audio with speakers at the top and bottom. There is also a USB-C port at the bottom while a 3.5mm audio jack is located at the top. The volume controllers are also present on the right side along with a dedicated button for launching the camera and the power button is also on the right side. The left side of the Xperia XZ1 does not feature any button but includes a microSD / SIM card slot.

No official date yet for the Xperia XZ1’s launch but the device is believed to be among the models Sony would launch on August 31 at IFA Berlin. That could explain why we are getting more leaks on the device by the day.

It is expected to unleash the Sony Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact flagship smartphones. The Xperia XZ1 is speculated as the successor of the Xperia XZ and Xperia XZs smartphones. Well-known leakster @OnLeaks and CompareRaja have worked together reveal the alleged renders of the Xperia XZ1.

The Sony Xperia XZ1 renders suggest that it resembles a lot with Xperia XZs. It has a simple metal body design but comes with large bezels above and below the screen. The top left corner of the rear panel features the main camera. The large-sized LED flash sit horizontal to the camera. Its placement is similar to that of Xperia XZ Premium, but more towards the middle.

The bottom side of the Xperia XZ1 has a USB-C port whereas the topside features a 3.5mm audio jack. The right side of the smartphone features a Power button that may probably come embedded with a fingerprint reader. The volume controllers are also present on the right side along with a dedicated button for launching the camera. The left side of the Xperia XZ1 does not feature any button, but includes a microSD / SIM card slot.

The dimensions of the Sony Xperia XZ1 are 146.8 x 73.4 x 7.6mm which makes it slightly bigger than the Xperia XZs 146 x 72 x 8.1mm. Also, the new XZ1 is smaller than the predecessor phone. Like the Xperia XZs, the successor smartphone is expected to come with a 5.2-inch display. It is expected to support full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels.

Previous rumors revealed that the Sony Xperia XZ1 will be powered by Snapdragon 835 chipset and 4 GB of RAM. It is expected to feature a 19-megapixel rear camera and a 12-megapixel front-facing snapper. It is expected to arrive preinstalled with Android 8.0 and it is pegged to come with a 3,000mAh battery. Its model number has been revealed by the rumor mill as G8441 and it is also rumored to be available in dual-SIM version.

The Xperia XZ1 Compact with model number G8341 is also expected to come with similar specs. Rumors have revealed that a 4.6-inch HD display will be present on it. Its other specs include Snapdragon 835, 4 GB RAM, Android 8.0, 19-megapixel rear camera and 12-megapixel selfie snapper and 2,800mAh battery. A mid-range Xperia X1 featuring 5-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 835, 2,800mAh and same set of cameras is also expected to get unveiled on Aug. 31.

The XZ1 Compact was seen on AnTuTu shortly afterwards, powered by the Snapdragon 835 and running Android 8.0.0. Weeks later, the Xperia XZ1 appears on Geekbench.

The device was benchmarked on July 21 as the Sony G8341/SO-01K. The chip is listed as the msm8998 and there is 4GB of RAM. Unlike the Compact which has Android 8.0, this runs Android 7.1.1. Though rumor has it that both devices will launch with Android 8.0.

The Xperia XZ1 scores 1909 points in the single-core test and 6459 points in the multi-core test. This isn’t far off from the scores of the LG V30 seen last week.

The only other details we know about the XZ1 are its screen size, resolution, and possible price. It is said to be 5.2-inches, has a 1080p resolution and will be priced at $860 (€760). The SO-01K is said to signify that this is the Japanese version.

Both the Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact are scheduled to be announced on August 31st at a pre-IFA Berlin event.

It means that the keynote will be held a day before the start of the IFA 2017 tech trade show that will last from Sept. 1 to Sept. 6. The Japanese tech giant is expected to unleash Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact on Aug. 31. These smartphones have been allegedly spotted on a Polish retailer site (Komp.tech). Their listing on the retailer site has revealed its specifications and features.

It had revealed that the smartphone would be coming with a full HD display and it will be running on Android 8.0.
