Yamaha has recently taken a significant step in the world of alternative energy vehicles by introducing the Drive H2, its first concept vehicle powered by hydrogen. Yamaha’s ongoing efforts are a step towards exploring sustainable fuel options, a journey that started in earnest a couple of years ago.

The car has two hydrogen tanks, with each tank having a 25-litre capacity

The unveiling of the Drive H2 occurred at the 2024 PGA Show in Florida. This vehicle is a modified version of Yamaha’s existing Drive2 Concierge 4 personal golf car, equipped with two hydrogen tanks. Each of these tanks can store up to 25 liters of hydrogen. One tank is positioned at the back of the car, while the other is situated under the driver’s seat.

Yamaha’s path to this innovation began in January 2022 with the announcement of a partnership with Kawasaki to develop hydrogen engines. This was followed by a collaboration with Toyota on a 5-liter V8 hydrogen engine. The commitment of Yamaha to hydrogen as a fuel source was reiterated by their president, Yoshihiro Hidaka, in mid-2023.

The adoption of hydrogen technology in vehicles, however, is not without its challenges. The main obstacle is the need for a supportive infrastructure, similar to the challenges faced by electric vehicles. The availability of hydrogen refueling stations is crucial for the widespread use of such vehicles.

While Yamaha has focused on a golf car for its hydrogen venture, the motorcycle segment is still an area of potential expansion. To date, Kawasaki and Suzuki have been the front runners in developing hydrogen-powered motorcycles. Given Yamaha’s history and the pace at which they are embracing new technologies, further developments in this area could be on the horizon.

The Yamaha Y-01W AWD is an adventure bike that is styled as an SUV with its AWD architecture. The new concept e-bike is designed for off-road riding and has a dual-engine setup. One of the electric motors drives the rear wheel and is mounted in the middle of the frame. The second hub motor is located on the front wheel. The combined motor’s output is coordinated electronically while the pair of 500Wh batteries deliver an extended range for the e-bike.

The new Yamaha AWD e-bike concept has Pirelli Scorpion Enduro tires for excellent rides in various terrains. A KYB suspension system is also featured in the e-bike, together with LED lights, and multiple handlebar options. The Renthal Fatbar and triathlon handles are among the handlebar options for the Yamaha Y-01W AWD concept. There are no indications yet on the array of tech features although it seems to lack an in-built display.

There are still a few optics not clear about the Yamaha Y-01W AWD e-bike including its launch date. The Japan Mobility Show 2023 kicks off on October 25 and we expect more details to trickle in about the new Yamaha concept AWD e-bike. Key among these details are the overall range and top speed of the e-bike.

Yamaha has announced a new three-wheeled electric vehicle that comes with triple-wheel steering functionality. The Yamaha Tricera is a futuristic electric vehicle concept and is set to be on display during the 2023 Japan Mobility Show later this month. The unique Yamaha Motoroid 2 self-balancing e-bike concept is also scheduled to be showcased during the Japan Mobility Show.

Yamaha Tricera – Yet another impressive concept

The Yamaha Tricera is a model that sits between a motorcycle and a car. It is viewed as an autocycle in some areas. However, it bears a closer semblance of a car than a motorcycle.

The Tricera comes with a unique design that, according to Yamaha, sets it apart from both motorcycles and cars. The delta trike design of the Tricera incorporates two front wheels and a single rear wheel. The Yamaha Tricera has a three-wheeled steering. A rack and pinion steering in the front is supported by the rear wheel pivot for greater maneuverability.

The design of the Yamaha Tricera has an open-top structure that omits doors. Seat bolsters are used instead to secure the rider. The Tricera features both automatic and manual steering modes for the rear wheel. The manual modes, according to Yamaha, give a sense of accomplishment for riders still learning the ropes.

There are no details yet on when the Yamaha Tricera concept will transit into a production vehicle. The key specs of the concept EV will be further illuminated during the Japan Mobility event later this month.

Yamaha has announced two new Dolby Atmos soundbars with built-in/ separate subwoofers. The Yamaha SR-B40A soundbar is rated as a rival to the Sonos Beam Gen 2 soundbar and both are in the same price range.

The Yamaha SR-B30A comes with a built-in subwoofer while the SR-B40A has a wireless subwoofer. The new soundbars are the latest iterations of the Yamaha SR-C20A and SR-C30A bars. The SR-B40A is the pricier and larger of the two models and the UK prices for the duo are already available.

The SR-B40A could deliver a deeper and more defined low-end sound, thanks to its separate dedicated subwoofer. It has four 460mm full-range cones and 250mm tweeters that produce frequencies between 22 Hz and 210Hz. The wireless subwoofer has a 1,600mm cone, further extending the bass frequency.

The Yamaha SR-B30A has the same full range cones as the SR-B40A while its built-in 750mm subwoofer delivers frequencies as low as 54Hz. The two new Yamaha soundbars provide brilliant sound reproduction and an overall immersive experience. The brand’s True Sound principle is hyped to help maximize Dolby Atmos, while the Clear Voice feature is also present.

The Bass Extension functionality of the soundbars also enables users to have greater control over low-end frequencies. Four sound modes – movie, stereo, standard, and game are present in both soundbars. The duo also features optical and HDMI interfaces. Apart from support for control via your TV’s remote, the soundbars have a remote app for mobile control.

The Yamaha SR-B30A and SR-B40A soundbars will be released in the UK on July 20. The prices of the two soundbars are £299 (~$385) and £449 (~$578) respectively. Europe and US pricing details for the two new Yamaha soundbars are lacking at this time.

Yamaha is marking three decades of e-bike manufacturing with the unveiling of a special edition, limited version of the YDX-MORO 07 electric mountain bike. Back in 1993, Yamaha was the first company to deliver a production electric bike. The 30th Anniversary Special Edition YDX-MORO 07 is arguably Yamaha’s most innovative e-MTB yet.

The original model of the YDX-MORO 07 was first launched in 2020 and refreshed in 2022. The YDX-MORO 07 is a full-suspension e-bike with an innovative Dual Twin frame design. Both the down and top tubes of the e-bike are divided into two separate frame members. The air gaps between the tubes provide space for the battery and rear suspension. The limited-edition Yamaha commemorative e-bike is compact, lightweight, and high-performance.

Yamaha plans to continue to set the pace in e-bike development with innovative and performance-driven offerings. Its goal is to continue to provide e-bikes that make every day fun and more fulfilling.

The Yamaha YDX-MORO 07 is powered by the PW-X3 motor with a quad-sensor system for automatic speed modulation. The PW-X3 is Yamaha’s most advanced e-bike drive system with higher torque output. It delivers the smoothest delivery of assistance on a power assist bicycle. The bike also features the Yamaha Racing Blue Rocker link and head tube, as well as a commemorative 3D badge and decal. The bike has a maximum torque of 85Nm and a maximum power output of 500W.

Beat that! Yamaha has been manufacturing e-bikes for 30 years

The Yamaha 30th Anniversary YDX-MORO 07 e-MTB is priced at $6,499 in the US. It is almost the same price as the refreshed YDX-MORO 07 which is priced at $6,399.

The TW-E3B variant is the most affordable model; it was priced at Rs 8,490 (~$103) when it debuted in June 2022. Currently, it is selling for Rs 6,490 (~$79) on Amazon. Design and Comfort

The Yamaha TW-E3B comes in multiple colors, such as black, pink, blue (limited edition), and purple (limited edition). The black variant, of the TW-E3B, that we received has a simple yet sleek design and a matte finish. Since it is the most affordable pair of Yamaha TWS earbuds, the build quality does not feel premium, but is good enough for the price it offers. The case makes a nice snappy sound when it is closed. Each earbud weighs 5.0 grammes, and the entire thing with the case weighs 45 grams.

The TW-E3B has four LED indicators on the front, and the back has a USB-C port. The Yamaha logo can be seen on the lid of the case. Both earbuds have a microphone, a physical function key with the Yamaha logo on it, and an LED indicator for pairing. The underside of each earbud has a charging connector, which can be connected to the charging pins available inside the case. Both earbuds offer an IPX5 rating, which makes them ideal for use during workouts. As far as comfort is concerned, the earbuds fit well inside the ear canals thanks to the different-sized eartips they come with.

Connectivity and Controls

The TW-E3B comes with support for Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, which brings support for audio codecs, such as SBC, AAC, and aptX. In order to establish a connection between the TW-E3B and a phone for the first time, one needs to take out the right earbuds and long press the button available on it. This will let the TW-E3B enter pairing mode, and its LED indicator will flash blue. Next, one needs to scan for new Bluetooth devices on a phone and look for “Yamaha TW-E3B R.” The LED indicator will then glow in purple, meaning it is ready for use. Next, take out the left earbud from the case, and it will show a prompt on the phone to connect with “Yamaha TW-E3B L,” this way the left earbud can be connected. Once the device has been paired with a smartphone, the earbuds will instantly connect to the phone when they are taken out of the case.

The specifications sheet for the TW-E3B on the official website mentions that it does not support gaming mode or active noise cancellation. However, it offers a feature called Listening Care. According to Yamaha, “Listening Care provides a more sophisticated solution by using a 4-band parametric equalizer (PEQ) to apply precise settings at each level in order to produce the best tonal balance at every volume. This means that you (and earbud guy) don’t have to crank up the volume to hear the bass drops or the cymbal crashes.”  Here is how the function key on each earbud work.

I sometimes prefer to listen to music using only one earbud. Some mid-tier earbuds offer smart wear detection, which can automatically play / pause music when an earbud is removed from the ear. This feature is unavailable on the TW-E3B. However, in its absence, the Yamaha TW-E3B offers a nifty feature that allows the user to turn off / on to the left or right by long pressing the function key.

Most earbuds with smart wear detection require users to remove one of the earbuds to play / pause. On such TWS devices, once the earbud is removed, it should be placed inside the case to make sure you don’t lose it. However, on the TW-E3B, one can continue wearing the turned off earbud and turn it on whenever required. Another thing that I liked about the TW-E3B is that it provides a way to adjust the volume through the earbuds.

Sound Output and Battery Life

There is a dedicated app called “Headphones Controller” available on Apple App Store and Google Play Store. It shows the battery status of the earbuds, offers a toggle to turn on Listening Care, and an auto power off timer. It also lets users search for the latest firmware for the TW-E3B. The Listening Care adjusts the frequency balance, offering rich sound quality playback even at a low volume.

The TW-E3B will be liked by those who prefer to listen to every detail. The 6mm audio drivers onboard produce crisp audio output. The bass is good enough and does not appear overoptimized. One of the impressive features of the TW-E3B is that the audio sounds very clear when played at low volume.

The built-in microphone is good enough for voice memos and voice assistants. As far as call quality is concerned, it is unable to cut down noise in a busy environment since it lacks ANC. However, it is still usable for calls in scenarios with less background noise.

Coming to the battery life of the TW-E3B, the moment the earbuds are worn, they will sound one of the following battery status messages.

• Battery High: plenty of charge remaining
• Battery Medium: moderate charge remaining
• Battery Low: small amount of charge remaining

In addition, if the battery is low, the LED indicator on the earbuds flashes three times in red. As claimed by the brand, the TW-E3B takes around two hours to achieve a full charge. The official page of the device states that the earbuds can last for up to 6 hours once they are fully charged. With the charging case, it can last for up to 24 hours. The charging case promises up to three charging cycles.

I used the TW-E3B for a couple of weeks. Since I used them for an hour or two each time, the earbuds could easily last for 3 to 4 hours. Hence, it required me to charge the TW-E3B once a week. I can conclude that the audio output and battery life are the strengths of the Yamaha TW-E3B.

Price and Availability

The Yamaha TW-E3B and TW-E5B debuted last year for Rs 8,490 (~$103) and Rs 14,200 (~$17), respectively. At the time of writing this review, the TW-E3B was priced at Rs 6,490 (~$79) It can be purchased through Amazon India and the Yamaha Music Store website. To conclude, the TW-E3B, which is powered by Yamaha’s decades of experience in acoustic and electric technologies, offers an impressive audio experience in the affordable price segment.

Yamaha has just launched the third entry in its TW-E3 series of truly wireless earbuds, the TW-E3C, which promises to offer audiophiles impressive performance without breaking the bank. The Yamaha TW-E3C Earbuds have a feature set that rivals some of the best wireless earbuds on the market and they are priced at just $79.95.

The TW-E3C earbuds come with aptX Adaptive Hi-Res sound, a codec that allows the earbuds to stream at a higher quality than regular Bluetooth. This codec also helps maintain a stable connection even when there is interference. The earbuds also have what Yamaha calls “True Sound”, which is a combination of acoustic features designed to produce a realistic soundstage with clear midrange and high frequencies, as well as solid bass notes.

In addition to the high-quality sound, the TW-E3C earbuds also offer a few smart extras. There is a low-latency gaming mode that reduces audio lag, making them ideal for gaming on the go. The earbuds also have multipoint connectivity, which allows them to be connected to two devices simultaneously, making it easy to switch between them. The TW-E3C earbuds also have a pair of mics that are designed to isolate your voice during calls, even in noisy environments.

The Yamaha TW-E3C Earbuds are a good option to consider for workouts. They have an IPX5 water-resistant rating, meaning they can handle sweat but are not suitable to be used for swimming.

In terms of battery life, the new Yamaha earbuds have a battery life of nine hours, which is nearly on par with the best in the market. The battery life is even extended by a further 14 hours via the charging case, bringing the total battery life to 24 hours.

Japanese brand Yamaha is entering the electric bike market with the release of three new e-bikes. The bikes are for mountain, gravel, and urban commuting, respectively. The Moro 07, Wabash RT, and Crosscore RC will bear the imprimatur of the iconic and long-standing motorcycle brand.

Yamaha has previously announced its plans to introduce its lineup of e-bikes, mopeds, and other e-mobility machines as it seeks a foothold in the e-mobility segment. The Moro 07 has a special dual twin frame and is powered by Yamaha’s PW-X3 electric motor. The PW-X3 is a light and powerful drive unit that uses zero cadence technology for instant torque production. The powertrain weighs 2.75kg and the Moro 07 can reach a top speed of 15.5mph. The Moro 07 comes with solid handling and improved stiffness due to its dual twin frame. There are multiple tubes at the top and down of the frame for greater stability. The e-bike has a 500Wh battery, Maxxis 27.5-inch tires, Rockshox Lynk Select front forks, and a Shimano XT 1×12 group set.

The Wabash RT is a gravel e-bike with a sturdy frame design for a comfortable and stable ride. It is a lightweight bike with a PW-ST drive unit. The unit features zero cadence technology and a 500Wh battery is also fitted. Shimano GRX gears, an LCD, and an automated assistance mode are all featured in the Wabash RT. The Crosscore RC has a different set of Shimano gears and it is an all-rounder for urban riding. The automatic support mode assists the rider when pedaling uphill similar to the other two Yamaha models.

Yamaha provided the optics of the three bikes via a YouTube video but pricing and availability information are lacking at this time. It is expected however that the three Yamaha e-bikes could enter select markets by the year’s end.

Yamaha has launched two new TWS earphones in India. The brand has expanded its range of audio devices with the TW-E7B and TW-ES5A. Both the latest offerings are premium TWS earphones and the former had debuted in the US market last month. The audio devices compete against other premium earphones offered by brands like Apple, Samsung, Sony, Bose, and more. 

Beginning with the Yamaha TW-E7B, the TWS earbuds come with an oval-shaped design that comfortably fit in the user’s ear. On the other hand, the TW-ES5A is a sports-centric earbud with a unique shape and a shark fin for a secure fit. Both TWS earbuds are IPX7 certified waterproof. 

In terms of audio, the Yamaha TW-E7B are equipped with a 10mm large dynamic driver. It features active noise cancellation as well as the brand’s Listening Care Advanced technology that intelligently adjusts frequencies in real time to maintain full range sound at lower volumes. Meanwhile, the Yamaha TW-ES5A features 6mm dynamic drivers and comes with an ambient mode that allows the user to listen to music while being aware of surrounding noise. This one also comes with listening care advanced technology. 

Both the Yamaha TW-E7B and ES5A come with Qualcomm cVc (Clear Voice Capture) that offers noise suppression and echo cancellation for crystal clear voice quality on calls. They also pack Bluetooth 5.2, gaming mode and an instant voice assistant. The TW-E7B is claimed to deliver 22 hours of battery life whereas the ES5A is said to offer up to 34 hours of usage on a single charge. 

The Yamaha TW-E7B is priced at Rs 24,200 and available in Black and White colours. The TW-ES5A costs Rs 14,200 and is offered in Black, Green, and Blue colours. Both TWS earphones can be purchased from the brand’s official website, select e-commerce platforms and retail outlets.

Yamaha launched its flagship TW-E7B true wireless earbuds a few months back, and now the company has officially launched the wearable audio device in the United States. The Yamaha TW-E7B are now available for purchase in the US for the price of $275.95.

They are the first wireless earbuds from Yamaha to come with support for the company’s proprietary active-noise cancellation algorithm, which it claims doesn’t “color” audio the saw some other implementations do.

Another interesting feature available on the earphones is the internal microphone, which monitors the space of the user’s ear and its effect on the audio output so that it can be adjusted to deliver a better sound.

It packs 10mm drivers and comes with support for Ambient Mode, which basically allows users to hear the ambient sound and blocks all other noises in the background. There’s also support for Google‘s Fast Pair to connect the device with an Android smartphone quickly.

The earphones also come with dedicated volume buttons, which are not usually found on wireless earbuds. There’s also a low-latency mode for gamers which can be easily activated just by tiple-tapping the volume down button on the right earbud. As for the Bluetooth codec support, there’s AAC and aptX adaptive.

As for the battery on the device, the Yamaha TW-E7B wireless earbuds are promised to offer up to six hours of battery life on a single charge and the charging case increases battery life to 22 hours. It is available in four colors — Black, Dark Blue, Beige, and White.

Yamaha TW-E3B specifications

Starting with the Yamaha TW-E3B, these earbuds have a contoured design made especially to have a snug fit in the ear. The housing also comes with a non-slip coating for a secure fit. The earbuds feature 6mm dynamic drivers and offer Qualcomm aptX audio codec along with SBC and AAC.

The TWS uses Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity and offers IPX5 swear resistance. Other features of the earphones include touch controls for play, pause, skip, and volume adjustment. The TWS earbuds can also be controlled using the Yamaha Headphones Controller app. The company claims that the TW-E3B can run for up to 6 hours on a single charge and a total of 24 hours when paired with the charging case.

Yamaha TW-E5B specs

The TW-E5B TWS earbuds have a ridge-like design to firmly fit in the ear. This ridge design also allows users to rotate the earbuds till they fit perfectly in their ear canal. The TW E5B earbuds come with 7mm dynamic drivers for crystal clear audio. For connectivity, the earphones feature Bluetooth 5.2.

The earbuds offer Qualcomm CVC (Clear Voice Capture), and a smart Ambient Sound mode (transparency mode). And like the TW-E3B, the E5B also has touch controls for phone calls, music playback, and activation of Siri or Google Assistant. Yahama claims that the TW-E5B can last up to 8.5 hours on a single charge and a total of 21.5 hours with the charging case.

Pricing & Availability

The Yamaha TW-E3B has a price tag of Rs. 8,490 ($109) and comes in Blue, Pink, Purple, and Black colors. The TW-E5B on the other hand has a price tag of Rs. 14,200 ($182). The Yamaha TW-E3B is already on sale on Amazon India with an introductory price of Rs. 7,490 ($96) and the TW-E5B will be made available soon.

Yamaha has recently registered the name E01 and the EC-05. The latter is an electric scooter that was already on sale in Taiwan. Now, it seems that the company is gearing up to launch a new electric scooter in India soon.

According to a Rushlane report, the Japanese automobile maker’s first Indian market could be a max styled scooter. This will be a premium product and will probably rival the likes of the Ather 450X and Bajaj Chetak. The report adds that the scooter will be equipped with a full digital LCD panel console. It will also feature Bluetooth connectivity and users will even be able to access a range of features and functions via Yamaha’s smartphone application.

As of right now, information regarding this upcoming electric scooter is still at large. Although, it is expected to offer performance that matches a 110cc petrol scooter like the Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter. Furthermore, its range may be around 70 to 80 kilometers, with a top speed of 80 and 100 kmph. It is also expected to offer multiple ride modes, which determines speed and range. Other rumored features include, LED headlight, alloys at front and rear, trendy rear view mirrors and comfy single piece seat.

With electric vehicles becoming more popular in the automobile industry, it arrives as no surprise that Yamaha also plans on launching a new electric scooter. The scooter segment is popular in India, so the company might also offer multiple ownership options. Yamaha is making inroads into the electric scooter market in Europe with the launch of the NEO e-scooter and it squares up nicely against 50cc combustion-engine equivalent models. The Yamaha NEO e-scooter is designed for daily urban use with a nice touch of aesthetics. It has compact body features and a soft-rounded design that enhance the relaxed feel when using the e-scooter.

The Yamaha NEO is easy to ride, ultra-quiet, zero-emission and comes with minimal maintenance when compared with its combustion equivalents and other e-scooters in its segment. The NEO is a reflection of the trajectory of development of electric vehicle technology pursued by Yamaha for over 30 years. The NEO is equipped with up-to-date technology that puts it on a sound pedestal in the European EV market. It sports Yamaha’s proprietary YIPU (Yamaha Integrated Power Unit) rear wheel hub and rear brake systems. The Motor Control Unit (MCU) of the NEO is housed within the rear swingarm and is detachable, being held by five bolts.

The NEO e-scooter uses brushless technology, is air-cooled and it is also quite noiseless, giving just 55dB within a 7-meter radius. It has a significantly reduced number of moving parts in comparison with a combustion-powered scooter, which implies fewer issues in terms of downtimes. The Lithium-ion battery of the Yamaha NEO offers a riding range of about 37km, which can be further scaled up to 68km with an additional battery. The power system ensures auto-optimization of the battery when it goes below a threshold to extend the range before a recharge is done.

The battery of the Yamaha NEO can be charged directly on the bike or removed and charged and this could take up to eight hours to fully restore its juice. The battery itself sits under the driver’s seat and thereby offers greater legroom for the rider. The battery can heat up to a maximum of 25 degrees Celsius which is not bad. The MyRide app provides more depth in the functionality of the NEO and there are varying riding modes present with the e-scooter. As per colors, two variants will be available namely black and white, and it remains to be seen what kind of reception awaits the Yamaha NEO e-scooter in Europe.

Yamaha has just launched six new audio products in the Indian market three of which are over-the-ear headphones and three are wireless neckband earphones. These new products in Yamaha’s audio range start from Rs 4,800 and go up to Rs 43,300. So let’s take a look at the specs and features of these devices.

Yamaha EP-E70A, EP-E50A, EP-E30A wireless earphones

Yamaha EP-E30A specifications 

The Yamaha EP-E30A feature 8.6mm dynamic drivers and offer support for SBC and AAC codec. The Bluetooth connection offers up to 10m of range and the earphones come with voice assistant support and a soft neckband design. The EP-E30A boasts a battery life of up to 14 hours.

Yamaha EP-E50A specifications

The Yamaha EP-E50A comes with a set of 9mm drivers and also gets support for Qualcomm aptX HD Bluetooth codecs in addition to the SBC and AAC codec. The EP-E50A also offers a 10m Bluetooth range and features Active noise cancellation. The neckband earphones weigh  35 grams and are claimed to provide about 9 hours of playback time.

Yamaha EP-E70A specifications

The Yamaha EP-E70A tops this segment is the highest tier offering in Yamaha’s latest released neckband and comes with features like ANC, large 9.2mm dynamic drivers, and 18 hours of playback time. The EP-E70A also gets a much sturdier neckband pushing its weight at 90 grams.

The Yamaha wireless neckband earphones start with the Yamaha EP-E30A priced at Rs 4,800 followed by the Yamaha EP-E50A priced at Rs 12,400. The Yamaha EP-E70A has the heaviest price tag among the three at Rs 23,600. The devices will be available on Amazon, Yamaha Music stores, and Bajaao.com.

Yamaha YH-L700A, YH-E700A, YH-E500A wireless headphones

Yamaha YH-E500A specifications

The Yamaha YH-500A features an on-ear design and comes with 40mm drivers. The pair of headphones support SBC, AAC, Qualcomm aptX, and aptX HD Bluetooth codecs, as well as ANC. The headphones offer up to 38 hours of battery life and have a total weight of 200 grams. The Yamaha YH-E500A can also be used as a wired headphone with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Yamaha YH-E700A specifications

The Yamaha YH-E700A offers an over-the-ear design and houses 40mm drivers. It comes with features like Active noise cancellation and voice assistant support. The pair of headphones also support SBC, AAC, and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codecs. The device has a swivel folding design for portability and has a 3.5mm headphone jack for Hi-Res Audio support, It delivers up to 35 hours of playback time on a single charge and weighs 325 grams.

Yamaha YH-L700A specifications

The Yamaha YH-L700A is the highest tier product from the brand and comes with all the bells and whistles including – 40mm dynamic drivers that offer support for 3D sound immersion with head tracking and internal microphones to measure listening conditions. The swivel folding mechanism is also present on the YH-L700A making it easy to carry around. It also offers Active Noise Cancellation and has a 3.5mm port for when users want to listen Hi-Res Audio using a headphone jack. The device offers 34 hours of playback time and weighs 330 grams.

The Yamaha YH-E500A and the Yamaha YH-E700A are priced at Rs 14,800 and Rs 29,900, respectively. The YH-L700A, which boasts the top specs out of the bunch has a Rs 43,300 price tag. According to the company, all the devices will be available via Amazon, Yamaha Music stores, and Bajaao.com.

Earlier this month, Yamaha revealed its Fascino 125 FI Hybrid and now the Japan-based manufacturer is planning to launch an electric scooter in the Indian market, joining the list of growing two-wheeler manufacturers in India.

While there are several electronic vehicle makers in India in the two-wheeler segment, only Bajaj and TVS are the mainstream brands as others are startups trying to establish themselves in the market. If Yamaha’s plans work out, then it will be the third major company in the EV sector in India.

Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt Ltd’s Senior Vice President Ravinder Singh has confirmed that the company is already developing an EV for India, as well as international markets. However, a lot will depend on India’s electric vehicle policy as the company is expecting a provision that encourages the rapid development of EV infrastructure in the country.

The Japanese company already has a deal with GoGoro in Taiwan to sell its own, redesigned EVs that are based on the GoGoro platform. However, the EC-05 electric scooter won’t be coming to India. This is because GoGoro has already signed a deal with Hero MotoCorp for battery swapping infrastructure, as well as the creation of new electric scooters based on the GoGoro platform.

Yamaha has a brand-new platform under development in the company’s headquarters in Japan, and this platform will be used in India as well as overseas. However, it’s likely that this upcoming product won’t be available for purchase any time soon.

While Bajaj and TVS are selling electric vehicles in India, companies like Hero and Suzuki have already confirmed that their EVs should arrive in the market within the next year or so, increasing the competition in India.

DxOMark has added two more devices to its speaker rankings. The first is the Google Nest Audio smart speaker which falls under the Essential category while the other speaker is the Yamaha MusicCast 50 which falls under the Advanced category.

Google Nest Audio

With an overall score of 112, the Nest Audio grabs the second spot on the Essential category, trailing behind the Amazon Echo Studio which has a score of 124.

The review says the Nest Audio delivers “remarkable maximum volume for its size”. However, the fact that it has a mono speaker and is front-firing means “the sound reproduction isn’t consistent”. There is also a lack of bass in most use cases according to DxOMark. The review also commends the speaker’s Ambient IQ feature which allows it to automatically adapt to its acoustic environment when streaming vocal content such as news, podcasts, and audiobooks from the internet. This means the feature is not available when playing content locally.

Yamaha MusicCast 50

The Yamaha MusicCast 50 is the latest addition to DxOMark’s speaker ranking. The MusicCast series was announced in 2015 but the MusicCast 50 didn’t launch until September 2018.

The speaker which weighs 4.5 kilograms is not designed to be moved around. It has two 30mm dome tweeters and two 100mm woofers and supports Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. It also supports AirPlay 2 in addition to MusicCast, Bluetooth, and Google Cast. It also has an optical input port and a mini 3.5mm jack.

Its overall score of 136 puts it behind the Harman Kardon Citation 200 and
Google Home Max. The speaker gets praise for its maximum volume, great bass, wide sound field, strong punch, and few artifacts making it great for watching movies.

The speaker is not perfect. For starters, the Yamaha MusicCast is also a front-firing speaker just like the Nest Audio, which means you don’t get surround sound and makes it unsuitable for outdoor use. Considering this speaker weighs 4.5 kilograms, we don’t know why you will want to move it around in the first instance.
