ASUS is trying to update quite a number of its phones to Android 10 and one of the ways it is doing it is by releasing an AOSP-based version for them. A little over a week ago, we reported that the Zenfone 5 had gotten an AOSP-based beta Android 10 update, now four more ASUS phones are getting the same treatment.

The Taiwanese electronics manufacturer has released AOSP-based Android 10 beta updates for the Zenfone Max M1, the Zenfone Lite, and the Zenfone Live L1 and Zenfone Live L2.

All of the aforementioned entry-level phones launched with Android 8.0 Oreo/Android 8.0 Oreo (Go Edition) and it is good to see that ASUS is updating them to Android 10.

Just like in the case of the Zenfone 5, if you intend to sideload these beta updates, you have to backup your data first. The files are over 1.5GB in size and the description says they come with updated security patches. Also, do ensure that you confirm the firmware version your device currently runs before downloading the update.

Huawei’s sub-brand Honor had unveiled the Honor 8X smartphone in India in the previous week. The handset will be available for buying for the first time starting from today. It can be exclusively bought through Amazon India. Today, two new phones from ASUS namely ZenFone Max M1 and ZenFone will be also available for purchase exclusively through Flipkart.

Honor 8X Pricing and Launch Offers

The Great Indian Festival shopping days have started from today on Amazon India. Beginning from today, the Honor 8X with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage is available with a price tag of Rs.14,999. The handset comes in color choices like Midnight Black and Navy Blue.

It can be purchased through EMI and ICICI bank debit card users can take advantage of additional 10 percent discount. There is 10 percent cashback offer available for Citi credit card users. Customers who order the phone before Oct. 28, can avail a free screen replacement that usually costs Rs. 6,000. These customers will be able to take advantage of the offer if the display of the Honor 8X damages within 8 months of purchase.

The handset can be also bought through exchange offer. Vodafone and Idea are offering 360 GB data to the buyers of Honor 8X. Amazon India’s Great India Shopping festival will come to an end on Oct. 28. Customers who purchase the phone during the ongoing shopping festival can avail Rs. 2,000 cash back from MakeMyTripe, Swiggy, Freshmenu and Eazy Diner.

During the launch of the phone, the company had also announced higher variants like 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB + 128 GB storage with respective pricings of Rs. 16,999 and Rs. 19,999. These models are not yet available for buying on the retailer site.

ASUS ZenFone Max M1 and ZenFone Lite L1 Pricing and Launch Offers

The ASUS ZenFone Max M1 is a lower edition of the ZenFone Max Pro M1. During the last week’s launch event of the ZenFone Max M1 and ZenFone Lite, the company had confirmed that it will be selling both smartphones with reduced respective pricing of Rs. 7,499 and Rs. 5,999 in India. Their usual prices are Rs. 8,999 and Rs. 6,999.

The ZenFone Max M1 can be bought through no cost EMI and customers can also avail bank card discounts. There is 10 percent cash back for PhonePe users. Jio subscribers can benefit of Rs. 2,200 cashback. Flipkart has also starting a shopping festival that will last until Oct. 27. It  is offering complete mobile protection for only Rs. 99 for the buyers Max M1.  The sales of both phones will begin at 12 PM and they can be availed in Black and Gold colors.  The same offers are also available for ZenFone Lite L1 smartphone.

ASUS has announced two new smartphones for the Indian market – the Zenfone Lite L1 (no, not Live L1) and the Zenfone Max M1. Both phones belong to the entry-level/mid-range category and are priced under Rs. 10,000 (~$135).

ZenFone Lite L1

The ASUS Zenfone Lite L1 has a polycarbonate body which isn’t surprising considering its low price. It sports a 5.45-inch display with a 1440 x 720 resolution. The bezels are not super thin but are moderate in size, so it should feel like a 5” 16:9 phone.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 430 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. The rear camera is a 13MP f/2.0 sensor with PDAF while the front camera is a 5MP sensor with its own flash and support for Face Unlock. It also has a 3,000mAh battery and runs Android Oreo. The phone has a triple card slot, so you can use two nano SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time.

ASUS will sell the phone for Rs. 5999 (~$81) for a limited time before returning to its original price of Rs. 6,999 (~$95). Reliance Jio customers get Rs. 2200 (~$30) cashback and 50GB of data. It will also come with 100GB of Google Drive storage space. The phone will be exclusive to Flipkart.

Zenfone Max M1

The Zenfone Max M1 is also covered in polycarbonate but it has a metallic finish and a 2.5D glass in front. It has the same screen and resolution as the Zenfone Lite L1. It also has the same Snapdragon processor. However, it comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Its rear camera is also a 13MP sensor with a 5P lens and PDAF. The front-facing camera is an 8MP sensor with LED flash that can take portrait images.

The Zenfone Max M1 also has Face Unlock but adds a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. Its battery capacity is larger at 4,000mAh and it supports reverse charging. It runs Android Oreo and has a triple card slot.

The Max M1 is priced at Rs. 7,499 (~$102) for a limited time and will eventually sell for Rs. 8,999 (~$122) when the promo is over. Just like the Lite L1, it will be available in Black and Gold and exclusive to Flipkart. It will also have the same offer for Reliance Jio customers.

ASUS says the phone will go on sale during Flipkart’s Festive Dhamaka Days.

Yesterday, ASUS had officially unveiled the ZenFone 5Z flagship, ZenFone 5 mid-range and ZenFone 5 Lite (5Q) smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. Apart from these phones, it also unveiled the ZenFone Max (M1) budget smartphone as a smaller edition of the ZenFone Max Plus (M1) that was launched in Russia in November 2017 and showcased at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2018 in the previous month.

ASUS ZenFone Max (M1) Specifications and Features

The ZenFone Max (M1) is fitted with a 5.5-inch HD+ display that produces resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. It delivers an aspect ratio of 18:9. The display offers a screen-to-body ratio of 83 percent thanks to the slim bezels surrounding it. It is tucked under 2.5D curved glass.

The ZenFone Max (M1) comes in two chipset variants, namely Snapdragon 425 and Snapdragon 430. These chipset variants will be aimed towards different markets. Both variants feature 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of inbuilt storage. For additional storage, it feature a microSD card slot.

For photography, it features a dual camera setup on its back panel. It includes a 13-megapixel primary camera with f/2.0 aperture. It is equipped with features like LED flash, PDAF and autofocus. The secondary sensor is of 8-megapixel that offers 120-degree field of view. An 8-meagpixel camera with f/2.2 aperture sits on the frontside of the phone. Depending on the region, the selfie camera configuration may vary.

The back panel of the ZenFone Max (M1) also features a fingerprint scanner. It is loaded with Android 8.0 Oreo that is skinned with ZenUI 5.0. It is fueled by 4,000mAh battery. The connectivity features available on the smartphone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB, 3.5mm audio jack and GPS.

It has an aluminum chassis that weighs 150 grams and it measures 147.3 x 70.9 x 8.7 mm. Its color variants include Deepsea Black, Sunlight Gold and Ruby Red.

As of this writing, there is no information available on the pricing and availability of the ZenFone Max (M1) smartphone. The larger version – the ZenFone Max Plus (M1) that was shown at CES 2018 is now available for buying in the U.S. with a price tag of $229. It can be availed in colors like Silver and Deepsea Black.
