ASUS promised the Zenfone Max Pro M1 would get two Android upgrades and it already got one last April when it was updated to Android 9 Pie. Since the Max Pro M1 will be getting Android 10, it only makes sense that its successor, the Max Pro M2 also gets updated. Both devices launched with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box.

The beta update for the Zenfone Max Pro M1 comes as version 17.2017.1911.407 and weighs in at 1.6GB in size. The update for the Max Pro M2 arrives as version 17.2018.1912.409 and is 1.5GB in size. If you are interested in trying it out, you can download it for your device from the source links below and sideload it on to your device. This is a beta update, so it is expected to experience issues. It is therefore advised that you backup your data before updating.

Android 10 brings changes in the user interface, Dark Mode, Smart Reply for messaging apps, and a new navigation system.

The stable update is expected to also arrive this month according to a tweet from an ASUS staff. So if you are not up for the issues a beta update may bring, you can wait for the stable update.

The ZenFone Max Pro M2 launched in December but ran Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. It also launched with October’s security patch. An update it received a few weeks later brought software improvements and November’s security patch.

Now, owners of the phone who can’t wait for the official Android Pie update can run a beta version by signing up for the beta program. However, there are some things you need to know before joining the program.

ASUS says it will not provide a downgrade service for beta power users. So if you update to a new version of the beta software and run into issues, you can’t roll back to an older version. The only solution is to opt out of the beta program. Also, as this is a beta software program, expect bugs and stability issues.

Below are the requirements for joining the program:

Owning a ZenFone Max Pro M2 is crucial

Willing to provide information including IMEI, Serial Number (SN), Current Firmware for the beta test setting

Be familiar with the Android operating system

Be able to read and provide feedback in English

If you meet the conditions, head here to enroll for the program.

The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 has a 6.26-inch FHD+ screen with a 19:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 6 protection. It is powered by a Snapdragon 660 processor and comes in 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB RAM variants with 32GB or 64GB of storage.

The phone has a 13MP f/2.0 selfie camera and a 12MP + 5MP dual camera setup on its rear. There is a fingerprint scanner on the back too. One of the phone’s selling point is its 5,000mAh battery which should last more than a day.

The phone has since gone on sale in those markets. In addition, ASUS has expanded its sales network as the models are now on sale in Europe via the companies official store in France, Italy, Spain, and Russia. In addition, the release of the Zenfone Max Pro M2 has affected the pricing of its predecessor, the Zenfone Max Pro M1 which is now cheaper.

Both the Zenfone Max Pro M2 and M1 are defined by their affordable prices, pure Android OS and massive 5,000mAh batteries. As for their pricing, the Zenfone Max Pro M1’s base version with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage is listed for €200 in France while the 4GB+64GB version is 11% off (€250). On the other hand, the M2 is on sale for €300 and if you buy one over the next 6 months, you’ll get an €80 voucher to spend on Asus.com (valid for 3 weeks). This isn’t applicable in Italy where the M2 is on sale for €300. However, the M1 comes in cheaper at €180. The price of the Zenfone Max Pro M1 in Spain is still a huge €300 which isn’t in any way a bargain. In the Netherlands, the M2 is already out of stock but it has a retail price of €220. Finally, in In Russia, the M1 starts at RUB 14,000, the M2 at RUB 18,000.

The phone is the successor of the highly-praised Zenfone Max Pro M1.

While the company has already confirmed that the phone will come with a 5,000mAh battery, ensuring long-lasting battery life for playing games given that it is being touted as a gaming smartphone. It is also expected to support Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. In comparision, this is the same battery capacity as the Zenfone Max Pro M1.

Prior to revealing the battery capacity of the upcoming phone, Asus had teased the image of the smartphone with the text that reads “The Real Pro is Coming”. The image shows that the phone will have a small notch on top of the display, which houses the front-facing camera sensor.

The image also showcased that the phone will have a dual rear camera setup, stacked vertically in the top-left corner, along with an LED flash that is placed just below the camera sensors. One of the sensor will also support 3-axis EIS for better experience, says the company.

According to the reports, the Asus Zenfone Max Pro is expected to feature a 6.26-inch IPS Full HD+ display with 19:5 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the device will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 octa-core processor, a major upgrade over the Snapdragon 636 that powers the Zenfone Max Pro M1.

The phone will pack 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage and we are also expected the Taiwan-based company to launch a 6GB RAM variant as well. While rumors suggest that the phone will run Android 9 Pie operating system, some reports indicate that it could run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box and later get upgraded to Android Pie.

A YouTube video showcasing the unannounced smartphone had surfaced recently. However, it was soon taken down. Recently, an Indian site had shared the front and rear renders of the smartphone. Even though the website has taken down the post that carried the leaked renders, various tech sites have already circulated the image. The said renders are also available on SlashLeaks.

The ZenFone Max Pro M2 renders show that it features a notched screen with tall aspect ratio. The chin of the device seems to be as thick as the notch of the smartphone.

Rumors have it that the notch of the Max Pro 2 includes a softlight LED flash, a proximity sensor and an f/2.0 aperture 13-megapixel selfie camera. It is rumored to be equipped with 6.26-inch display that supports 19:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. Both the front and rear sides of the phone are reportedly shielded by Corning Gorillas Glass layer.

The rear shell of the Max Pro M2 appears to be made out of glass. A popular tipster had recently claimed that the phone is equipped with a triple camera setup. Moreover, a misleading teaser also hinted that it has a third camera. In the renders shown above, it is quite clear that it will be featuring a dual camera setup that sits flush on the back panel of the device.

The tweet included an image that teased the upper part of the phone’s front and rear. The image confirmed the phone will come with a notch in its display and multiple cameras on the back.

It was erroneously reported that ASUS’s next mid-range phone will have three cameras on the back but images taken from an early review video have now confirmed that the ZenFone Max Pro M2 has dual rear cameras and not triple cameras. These images have shown that the teaser was misleading and rather than a third sensor, what comes next is an LED flash.

Apart from confirming the number of cameras, more details of the phone were also revealed in the video which has now been taken down.

The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 is said to have a 6.0-inch FHD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. Inside the notch are an LED flash, a proximity sensor, and a 13MP f/2.0 camera. The display is reported to be covered in Gorilla Glass 6. There is also glass on the back but there is no confirmation if it is also Gorilla Glass.

The ZenFone Max Pro M2 has a 12MP Sony IMX486 f/1.8 primary sensor with PDAF and EIS on the back that is paired with a 5MP depth camera. It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and packs a 5,000mAh battery. Other features include dual-SIM support, up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage. The images also show that the phone is running what appears to be stock Android like its predecessor and not ZenUI.

The new image confirms that the ZenFone Max Pro M2 will be equipped with a notched screen. The notch houses the front camera and some other sensors. Above the selfie camera is the earpiece of the phone. The appearance of the phone resembles with its low resolution render that had surfaced through its Google Play Console listing.

The indicators for Wi-Fi signal and battery suggests that the handset will be running on near stock version of Android just like the predecessor ZenFone Max Pro M1. The handset is equipped with a triple camera system on its rear. However, the third camera lens is not clearly visible. The back panel of the phone has a glossy appeal. There is a possibility that that the handset could be sporting a glass back.

The Taiwanese company has claimed that there many phones that come with “Pro” moniker, but are they are really Pro? Do they feature long-lasting battery? Do they have a strong display? Do they have great camera? And how does their processor perform? By this, the company could be hinting that the ZenFone Max Pro M2 is the “Real Pro” since it excels in departments like battery, display, camera and performance than its rivals.

Reliable tipster Roland Quandt had recently revealed that the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M2 will be featuring a 6-inch screen that will be equipped support for Full HD+ resolution. It will be fueled by Snapdragon 660. There is no information on the battery of the phone, but it could feature a behemoth battery since the predecessor phone featured 5,000mAh battery. The handset may hit the market in 4 GB and 6 GB RAM variants. These variants may respectively feature 64 GB and 128 GB of inbuilt storage. The exact configuration of the triple camera unit of the ZenFone Max Pro M2 is still under the wraps. The handset will be featuring a front-facing camera of 13-megapixel.

Do you think that the ZenFone Max Pro M2 will be a better phone than other Pro labelled smartphones such as Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro and Realme 2 Pro? The key specifications of the smartphone have already surfaced in the previous week. XDA Developers have spotted an ASUS phone with model number ASUS_X01BD_1 in the device catalog of Google Play Console. It is speculated that this device could be the upcoming ZenFone Max Pro M2 smartphone. The listing contains an image of the smartphone.

The low resolution render of the ZenFone Max Pro M2 reveals that it will be featuring a notched screen. The appearance of the smartphone is similar to the ZenFone 5Z flagship phone. The icons present on the screen show that its could be running on near stock version of Android like the predecessor ZenFone Max Pro M1 phone. The handset is running on Android 8.1 Oreo OS.

The Google Play Console listing also reveals that the device will be featuring 6 GB of RAM. Since the predecessor smartphone featured a 6 GB RAM variant, it is very likely that the highest configuration edition of the Max Pro M2 could be also featuring the same amount of RAM.

As far as specifications of the smartphone is concerned, a leak from previous week had revealed that the Max Pro M2 features a 6-inch display that carries support for Full HD+ resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels. The Snapdragon 660 chipset is expected to power the smartphone along with 4 GB of RAM. It is likely to hit the market in storage choices of 64 GB and 128 GB.

One of the salient features of the smartphone could be its triple camera setup. However, the configuration of its triple rear cameras is not available yet. For shooting selfies, it may come equipped with a 13-megapixel selfie camera.

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 was a worthy rival for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro in India. Xiaomi has recently confirmed that the Redmi Note 6 Pro will go official on Nov. 22 in India. The handset also features a notched screen and it is equipped with dual front cameras and dual rear shooters. There is a possibility that ASUS may launch ZenFone Max Pro M2 in India soon to rival with the Note 6 Pro.

The phone will be the successor of the Zenfone Max Pro M1, which has been well-received by the users.

Interestingly, the Zenfone Max Pro M2 is first getting launched in Indonesia whereas its predecessor was first launched in India. Also, the company is claiming that the Zenfone Max Pro M2 is a gaming smartphone.

While the company claims it to be a gaming smartphone, it’s likely that the phone will have a gaming-focused software features similar to the Honor Play instead of features on an actual gaming phone like ROG Phone.

Previous reports suggest that the phone will feature a 6-3inch IPS LCD display having a Full HD+ screen resolution. The device is expected to pack 4GB of RAM and will have two models based on the internal storage — 64GB and 128GB. We are also expecting another variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

Under the hood, the phone will be running on an octa-core 14nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE processor under the hood, which offers an impressive improvement in graphics performance compared to the Snapdragon 636 chipset that powers the current model.

For photography, the phone is expected to feature a triple-camera setup on the back, where the primary camera sensor will be of 13-megapixel. As for the software, the phone will be running the latest Android 9 Pie operating system out-of-the-box.

While the company has not revealed, there’s a possibility that Asus could also launch the Zenfone Max M2 along with the Zenfone Max Pro M2 next month. The phone is also expected to be available in India soon after Indonesia launch if not before.

Again, the leaks are from Roland Quandt and are related to the ZenFone Max Pro (M2) and the Zenfone Max M2.

According to the serial leaker, the ZenFone Max Pro (M2) which has the model number ZB631KL will have a 6-inch full HD+ screen, 4GB of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of storage. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 660 processor which is still a worthy upgrade over the Snapdragon 636 which powers the ZenFone Max Pro (M1).

With respect to cameras, the phone will have three sensors on its back. Roland Quandt also mentions a 13MP sensor which may be the front-facing camera.

Snapdragon 636 (MSM8953), Dual Cam
ZB632KL (non-Pro), ZB634KL (Pro) are likely India specific variants

Next comes the ZenFone Max M2 with model number ZB633KL. It will also sport a 6” FHD+ display but be powered by a Snapdragon 636 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of built-in storage. The ZenFone Max M2 will have a 13MP (front-facing) camera and dual cameras on its back.

There is a caveat though. Roland Quandt adds that he isn’t sure about the screen size, resolution and storage of both phones but he is certain about their RAM, processors, and the number of cameras they have. He also mentions that the ASUS ZB632KL and the ASUS ZB634KL are Indian variants of the ZenFone Max M2 and the ZenFone Max Pro (M2) respectively.

The leaks come from Roland Quandt and it includes upcoming phones and a Chrome OS tablet. According to him, ASUS will soon launch a new Zenfone phone with model number ZB634KL which will have a triple camera setup on the rear.

ASUS ZenFone ZB634KL should launch "SOON" ™. Comes with triple cam setup on rear.

— Roland Quandt (@rquandt) November 12, 2018

Russian tech blog, Mobiletelefon, said the phone is definitely the successor to the Zenfone Max Pro (M1) based on the first two alphabets of the model number (ZB) which is the same as that of the Max Pro (ZB601KL). The site adds that the figure“63” in the model number means it will have a 6.3-inch screen while the alphabets “K” and “L” indicate a Snapdragon processor and 4G LTE respectively. As it stands, the ASUS ZB634KL should launch as the Zenfone Max Pro (M2).

And the last one: "it should launch "SOON" alongside with ZB631KL & ZB633KL, aka Zenfone Max Pro (M2) and Zenfone Max (M2). Still no signs of ZB632KL.

— Лазарев Олег (@LaOlTomsk) November 12, 2018

But that isn’t the only Max phone in development. There is also the ASUS ZB632KL which has a triple camera setup too as well as the ZB631KL and ZB633KL. The ZB633KL is presumed to be the Zenfone Max (M2).

The ASUS ZB634KL is believed to be the successor to the Zenfone Max Pro (M1)

Apart from the phones, ASUS is also working on a Chrome OS tablet and we are not surprised. After the launch of the Acer Chromebook Tab 10 and the Pixel Slate, we know it is only a matter of time before other manufacturers jump on the train. Also, seeing as Android tablets sales keep plummetting every year, Chrome OS may be the way to go.

Don't be surprised when ASUS launches what I think is its first Chrome OS tablet ~10inch screen. Could be one of the devices we get to see at #CES2019.

— Roland Quandt (@rquandt) November 12, 2018

Chrome OS brings a number of features that are of benefits to both the manufacturer and the user. First, the OS is the same on all devices irrespective of the manufacturer. There are no custom skins like you have on Android phones, so the UI is consistent.

Also, updates are handled by Google and are pushed to all devices at the same time. Google says Chrome OS devices will receive updates for at least 6 years from when the chipset appeared on the platform.

The ASUS Chrome OS tablet will have a 10-inch display and may be unveiled at CES 2019 in January.

The Asus Zenfone Max M2 and the Zenfone Max Pro M2 have been certified by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) in Russia.

The certification processor has revealed the name of the upcoming phones as well as their model number. The Zenfone Max M2 carries model number ZB633KL, while the Zenfone Max Pro M2 has model number ZB631KL.

Further, it reveals that both the phone will be running Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box, which is a bit disappointing given that it’s been a while since Google officially released the Android 9.0 Pie update and a few manufacturers have already started rolling out Android Pie to their devices.

The listing does not reveal anything related to the phone’s specifications. However, unlike the current models, the successor is expected to come with a notched display, probably a bigger one, given that most of the devices launched this year feature a notched display.

We are also expecting an upgraded processor for improved performance and a dual rear camera setup for enhancing the imaging capabilities. As for the battery, we expect the battery capacity to be similar to the 5,000mAh battery — same as the current models.

Read More: Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 India sales hit 1 million units in less than 6 months

While the specifications for the Zenfone Max Pro M2 and Max M2 are just a speculation at this point in time, the EEC listing has confirmed the existence of the phones. The listing suggests that the phone are currently in production stage, and we expect to see leaks related to the devices in the coming weeks.
