New Amazfit Band may launch soon after 2 years: Report

Zepp (formerly Huami) is popular for its Amazfit-branded smartwatches and Xiaomi Mi Bands. Very few people know that the company also sells Amazfit-branded fitness trackers called Amazfit Band. This product line may soon get a new model after nearly two years.

Amazfit Band 5

The last self-branded fitness tracker from Zepp went official in the second half of 2020 as Amazfit Band 5. It can be termed as a pro version of Mi Band 5 as it is similar to the Xiaomi-branded wearable but with some additional features.

Recently, the Xiaomi Band 7 was released in China. It is expected to hit the international markets very soon. Ahead of that, a report by Logger (via Xiaomiui) suggests that Zepp may also release its own-branded fitness tracker soon.

However, unlike the Amazfit band 5, which is based on Mi Band 5, the upcoming Amazfit Band will not be similar to the Xiaomi Band 7. Codenamed Bari, this product will likely carry the model numbers A2177 (standard) and A2283 (NFC).

It is expected to sport a rectangular display with a resolution of 194 x 368 pixels. Most importantly, it will be backed by a 232mAh battery, which is larger than the 180mAh and 200mAh batteries present inside the Xiaomi Band 7 and Redmi Smart Band Pro, respectively.

As for software, it will ship with the new Zepp OS. Finally, it will offer GPS and pin unlock feature.

The marketing name of this forthcoming Amazfit Band is not known at the moment. Perhaps, more details may emerge in the coming days.

Amazfit Zepp E smartwatch launched in India for ₹8,999: specs, features & more

Earlier this month, Amazfit brought the GTS 2 New Version to the Indian market. Now, the company has launched the Amazfit Zepp E smartwatch in the country. So let’s talk a closer look at the new wearable.

Amazfit Zepp E specs & features

Starting with the design, the smartwatch is offered in two shapes, circular and a square body. The circular design has a 1.28-inch AMOLED screen with 348 x 442 pixels resolution and 326 PPI pixel density. The square model on the other hand has a 1.65-inch square AMOLED display with 341 PPI pixel density. Both variants offer the Always-on Display feature and other similar specs mentioned below.

The Zepp E comes with a black 3D curves glass with a premium bezel-less look and offers a side button for easy navigation through the UI. It also offers the interchangeability of bands (20mm) to keep the smartwatch looking fresh.

Coming to the fitness features, the smartwatch has support for 11 sports modes including Outdoor Running, Treadmill, Walking, Outdoor Cycling, Indoor Cycling Elliptical, Pool Swimming, Climbing, Trail Running, Skiing, and Freestyle. Users can also be comfortable wearing it while swimming because of its 5ATM water resistance rating.

For health features, the Zepp E offers a heart rate sensor for 24/7 heart rate monitoring and a SpO2 sensor to check blood-oxygen levels. Other than that, the smartwatch monitors its users’ sleep and rates its quality according to different metrics.

Other than that, the smartwatch comes packed with an accelerometer, geomagnetic sensor, ambient light sensor, and linear vibration motor. The brand claims that the Zepp E can last up to 7 days on a single charge thanks to its 188mAh battery unit.

The Amazfit Zepp E smartwatch is priced at ₹8,999 in India. It is available for purchase via Amazon India and the Amazfit website.

Zepp (formerly Huami) launched the Amazift T-Rex in India in June 2020. Despite releasing the Amazfit T-Rex Pro in the country in late March 2021, the company continued to sell the original model. Now, one and a half years after its debut in the region, the wearable receives a massive discount.

The Amazfit T-Rex made its debut in India priced at ₹9,999. But now, interested customers can grab it at only ₹5,499.

The smartwatch’s official online retailer Amazon India is offering a flat ₹4,000 discount on it. On top of that, the seller is offering a ₹500 discount coupon. Clubbed together, these two offers bring down the price of the wearable from ₹9,999 to 5,499.

In simpler words, Amazfit T-Rex is currently being sold at almost half of its launch price in India. It’s a no-brainer purchase if you are looking for a rugged smartwatch in this price segment. That’s because there’s no such offering from any brand at this price.

Amazon India appears to be clearing the old stock with the help of the hefty discount. We are saying this since the wearable is already sold out on Amazfit’s website.

Having said that, if you were planning to buy Amazfit T-Rex Pro, we are sorry to say that it’s still being sold at its launch price of ₹12,999.

Zepp Health shipments rise in Q3 2021, as Amazfit & Zepp leads Brazil, Russia, and other markets

Zepp Health has just reported that its global shipments have seen a surge in the third quarter of this year. The news arrives from IDC in its report titled “Q3 2021 Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker.”

As per the report, the brand’s two subsidiaries Amazfit and Zepp saw a notable rise in shipment in the global wearable market, with both brands seeing the highest growth among the top five market leaders in terms of sales. The Chinese wearables maker also saw great performance in various different countries and regions during this time. It ranked first in Brazil, the Czech Republic, Russia, and Indonesia, achieving a market share above 30 percent in Brazil and the Czech Republic.

On the other hand, Zepp Health had a marker share of around 20 percent in nations like Italy, Thailand, and Spain, which had it rank second in each of these regions. Similarly, the brand also ranked third in Mexico, fourth in Germany, South Korea, and Japan, and fifth in India and Saudi Arabia. Its third quarter performance saw a boost thanks to the Black Friday sales and Cyber Monday promotional events on Amazon.

During this time, the company even offered various holiday sales promotions, which helped further drive sales. Huami to announce a new OS and chip for smartwatches

If you have been wondering why Huami has been slow with announcing new products this year, we think we know why. It turns out the Chinese manufacturer that owns the Amazfit and Zepp brands has been developing a new operating system for its smartwatches.

A few days ago, Huami, announced that it has an event scheduled for July 13. It turns out that the manufacturer will be announcing its new operating system and a new chipset too at the event dubbed “The Future of Health”.

A Weibo post by Huang Wang, the founder, and CEO of Huami Technology, revealed that its new self-developed operating system is better suited for watches and can better take advantage of the health features present in wearables. The CEO also shared a video of what appears to be a redesigned interface for heart rate measurement.

We do not know if the operating system is still based on RTOS or it is entirely new from scratch. However, one feature we know it will have is a dynamic watch face as seen in the video below courtesy of Digital Chat Station. The Chinese leaker who has had hands-on experience with the new operating system praises the UI and user experience.

More details about its upcoming Huangshan chipset were also revealed. According to Mr. Huang, the new processor, which should launch as the Huangshan 2S, will have an independent GPU. It will be a dual-core chipset based on the RISC-V architecture, and it will not only be more powerful but also have lower power consumption.

Huami Technology shipped 45.7 million units of its wearable devices in 2020

Huami Technology, the wearable device-making company backed by Xiaomi, which has recently changed its name internationally to Zepp Health, has revealed financial details for the fourth quarter of 2020 and the whole year.

The company has revealed that in the fourth quarter of 2020, it generated an operating income of 1.973 billion yuan and the company’s adjusted net profit was 128 million yuan. For the same time duration, it managed to ship 11.3 million units of its products.

As for the whole year of 2020, the company generated around 6.433 billion yuan in operating income, indicating a year-on-year increase of 10.7 percent. The adjusted net profit stands at 294 million yuan. For the year 2020, the company shipped 45.7 million units with a year-on-year increase of 8 percent.

Huami also said that it spent around 538 million yuan in Research & Development, which shows around a 25 percent increase compared to 2019. It also revealed that as of 31st December 2020, the company held cash and cash equivalents of 2.273 yuan, which is approximately $348.4 million.

For those who are unaware, Huami Technology is one of the leading wearable device makers globally and owns Amazfit and Zepp lineup of products. The company changed its name to Zepp Health Corporation for the global markets, trying to better convey its aim of “Technology Connected Health” and is hoping for better performance in 2021.

The company predicts that the net income for the first quarter of 2021 will be around 1 billion yuan and 1.15 billion yuan. Huami Technology has also officially confirmed that the Mi Band 6 is “ready to go” and could soon get launched in the market by Xiaomi.

China’s Zepp Z smartwatch comes with ECG and NFC; costs more too

The Zepp Z premium smartwatch was announced a few weeks ago at an event that was live-streamed. The smartwatch is the most expensive model from the Huami-owned brand.

At the event, Huami announced that the Zepp Z will get an ECG version in the future, following approval from the regulatory bodies. The watch also got announced in China, but unlike the global variant which doesn’t have ECG, the one sold in China comes with an ECG sensor out of the box.

The Zepp Z with ECG is available for purchase on the official Zepp store on JD.com for ¥2699 (~$410) but a limited-time sale has it going for ¥2649 (~$403). The price tag is higher than that of the non-ECG version which sells for $349, nevertheless, the price gives us an idea of how much the ECG version will sell for when it is available in markets such as the US and Europe.

The product page for the smartwatch also confirms that China indeed has the ECG version. In the image below, it says users will be able to get quick access to the ECG function via the health button which can also be customized to quickly access the heart rate monitor, blood oxygen level detection, or stress level.

An ECG monitor is not the only difference between the Chinese version and the global version. Huami has also added NFC for payment support. The dimensions are also different as the Chinese (ECG version) measures 46.6 x 46.3 x 10.75 mm while the global version measures 45.9 x 45.9 x 10.75 mm. Save for these differences, the rest of the specs are the same.

The Zepp Z has a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with a 454 x 454 resolution. It supports 12 different sports modes, has GPS and GLONASS, is water-resistant up to 50 meters, packs a 340mAh battery, and works with both Android and iOS devices.

The Zepp Z may be a hybrid smartwatch with an SpO2 monitor and more

Tomorrow, Huami-owned Zepp will announce a new smartwatch that will launch as the Zepp Z. This will be the second watch, the first being the Zepp E, from the acquired company. Teasers shared on the official Zepp Twitter account point at the Zepp Z being a hybrid watch.

First, a video posted a few days ago shows the Zepp Z will have a stainless steel case with tachymeter markings and a brushed metal finish. The right side of the watch is home to two buttons and a crown, and attached to the case are leather straps with a stitched design.

The caption for the tweet above reads “Classic design meets contemporary technology” which we believe is a hint that the Zepp Z is a combination of a classic (read as regular) watch with modern smartwatch features.

The design is also another nod to it being a hybrid watch. As you can see, there are two buttons and a crown, unlike most other smartwatches that have either a single button or two at most. This three-button style design is one we have seen on other hybrid smartwatches such as the NoiseFit Fusion Hybrid and the Fossil Hybrid HR.

The image above also shows that the Zepp Z will have small displays within the dial that show info such as battery life, steps, and PAI score. This display-within-the dial design is one we have seen on quite a lot of hybrid watches such as the Withings ScanWatch and Withings Steel HR.

Zepp has also teased some features of the upcoming watch. One teaser image shows the watch will be to measure blood oxygen level and heart rate while another shows the Zepp Z will also have Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant.

The Zepp Z launches tomorrow at 5 PM GMT and the event will be live-streamed on YouTube. With the aforementioned features, we expect it to have a price tag no less than $250.

A few days ago, Huami, the company behind the popular Amazfit lineup of wearable devices, confirmed that it will be launching its new smartwatch under the Zepp brand on 17th November worldwide.

Now, the company has confirmed that Zepp’s upcoming smartwatch in the new Z-series will be officially unveiled in China in the early hours of 18th November. The company has also teased the device in the shared teaser video.

Amazfit app renamed to Zepp on the Play Store

Huami’s Amazfit line of smartwatches is quite popular and if you own an Amzafit smartwatch, you most likely use the Amazfit companion app. At least that is what it used to be called before it got a new name.

Yes, the Amazfit app has now been renamed on the Play Store. The app now goes by Zepp (formerly Amazfit) which seems like a pretty strange development. If you want to know what prompted the change in name, the app description provides an explanation.

It says the decision is to bring a more comprehensive and professional health management experience to a wider audience. It also says the official renaming will be on August 25 and will also include a new app icon. Huami assures users that Amazfit devices will continue to work as normal with the renamed and updated app.

Zepp is actually a company known for its smart sport accessories and sensors. If you do a search on the Play Store, you will find special Zepp apps made for its sensors for sports such as soccer, tennis, and golf. The developer for these apps is now Anhui Huami Information technology Co. Ltd, following the acquisition two years ago.

We have a feeling Huami plans to merge all the apps together which actually makes sense. So the new Zepp app should work for Zepp sensors and Amazfit products.
