<p>As <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/09/zte-axon-50-ultra-arriving-april-12-satellite-connectivity/">scheduled</a>, the ZTE Axon 50 Ultra has been unveiled in China today. As the name suggests, it is the company’s latest premium flagship smartphone.</p>

<p>However, it does not come with the newest powerful chipset or a high-end mobile camera system. But it arrives with a feature that’s currently only offered by two consumer brands, namely <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Apple/">Apple</a> and <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Huawei/">Huawei</a>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="661" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-1024x661.jpg?x44794" alt="ZTE Axon 50 Ultra" class="wp-image-529430" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-1024x661.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-300x194.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-768x496.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-1536x991.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-2048x1321.jpg 2048w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-696x449.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-1068x689.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-1920x1239.jpg 1920w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-B-651x420.jpg 651w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The ZTE Axon 50 Ultra is built around a 6.67-inch flexible curved OLED display. The 10-bit panel offers a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+) and a 144Hz refresh rate.</p>

<p>The device is powered by a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/05/20/qualcomm-unveils-snapdragon-8-gen-1-plus/">Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1</a> chip. Thus, it is limited to UFS 3.1 storage but uses LPDDR5x RAM.</p>

<p>On the rear, the handset sports a triple camera system. The setup includes an OIS-assisted 64MP Sony IMX787 primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide unit, and a 50MP telephoto snapper.</p>

<p>The main highlight of the phone is that it carries support for Beidou’s two-way satellite communication system. Thus, users can send and receive emergency messages when they are out of network coverage.</p>

<p>The smartphone houses DTS: X Ultra-supported dual stereo speakers. Finally, it draws energy from a 5,000mAh battery and can charge at a maximum speed of 80W.</p>

<p>Weirdly, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/ZTE/">ZTE</a> hasn’t revealed the pricing and availability of its new handset.</p>

<p>Although ZTE&#8217;s popularity in the global market cannot be compared to other Chinese OEMs like Xiaomi and Oppo, you may recognize it from its unique flagships with under-display selfie cameras or the gaming phones launched under its sub-brand Nubia. The company is gearing up to launch yet another interesting device in its home <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/04/09/zte-axon-50-ultra-arriving-april-12-satellite-connectivity/">country tomorrow</a>, called Axon 50 Ultra. Ahead of the debut, the brand has revealed its design and some interesting features.</p>

<p>Axon 50 Ultra will debut as the successor to last year’s <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/zte-axon-40-ultra">Axon 40 Ultra</a>, which boasted an under-display camera on the front. For some reason, the upcoming handset will get a conventional selfie camera housed in a punch-hole cutout. However, the company makes up for that by including the trending satellite connectivity feature on board.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="631" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Screenshot-2023-04-11-233010-1024x631.png?x44794" alt="ZTE Axon 50 Ultra" class="wp-image-529183" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Screenshot-2023-04-11-233010-1024x631.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Screenshot-2023-04-11-233010-300x185.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Screenshot-2023-04-11-233010-768x473.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Screenshot-2023-04-11-233010-696x429.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Screenshot-2023-04-11-233010-681x420.png 681w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Screenshot-2023-04-11-233010-356x220.png 356w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/Screenshot-2023-04-11-233010.png 1066w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<h2>ZTE Axon 50 Ultra gets a dual operating system and an independent security Chip</h2>

<p>As can be seen in the image above, the handset features a form factor similar to <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s23-ultra">Galaxy S23 Ultra</a> with curved sides and a flat upper and bottom. The handset gets a large camera module that covers one-third of its rear. The main camera sensor is enclosed in a large ring while the other two are featured in relatively smaller rings.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="558" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-1024x558.webp?x44794" alt="ZTE Axon 50 Ultra" class="wp-image-529182" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-1024x558.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-300x164.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-768x419.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-696x379.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-1068x582.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra-770x420.webp 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/ZTE-Axon-50-Ultra.webp 1440w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>In addition, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/zte">ZTE</a> has revealed that Axon 50 Ultra will use dual operating systems and an independent security chip. While there’s little information available regarding the dual OS, we assume the security chip will enhance the privacy and protection of the user. Similar to Samsung&#8217;s Knox and Google Pixel&#8217;s Titan M2 chip, this security chip is expected to provide enhanced security measures for the device.</p>

<p>ZTE Axon 50 Ultra 5G is confirmed to feature the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-8-plus-gen-1">Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 </a>chip, a 64MP OIS main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide-angle macro lens, a 50MP telephoto unit, and a built-in 5000mAh battery with 80W fast charging support.</p>

<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/zte">ZTE</a> is going to host its Industry Terminal Summit and Spring product launch event on April 12 and the Axon 50 Ultra smartphone is going to be the star of the show. Unlike the previous year&#8217;s <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/Zte-axon-40-ultra">Axon 40 Ultra</a> which boasted the company&#8217;s under-display camera technology, the forthcoming smartphone will feature a conventional selfie camera positioned in a punch-hole cutout. Instead, it will bring a trending feature that is creating a buzz in the industry— Satellite Connectivity.</p>

<p>Axon 50 Ultra will be launched in China initially, with the keynote event scheduled for April 12 at 13:30 CST. The phone will feature editable BeiDou satellite communication messages and is being touted as the first secure 5G smartphone with SATCOM support. This will allow users to send messages and location information to others even when there’s no ground network signal coverage.</p>

<p>Satellite communication is a relatively new feature, with <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/Huawei-mate-50">Huawei Mate 50</a> series being the first to arrive with it in September. Soon after, Apple also introduced the same feature with its latest <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-14-pro">iPhone 14 Pro</a> smartphones. Rumors were rife that Samsung will also join the party but the Korean company decided to skip out, stating it will wait for the technology to mature.</p>

<p>Circling back to the ZTE smartphone, it is expected to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC under the hood. As mentioned, the handset will get a center punch hole cutout for the selfie shooter. Its display can be seen to be curved with sharp corners. The teaser image also reveals that the volume and power buttons will be located on the right edge while the left one will remain empty.</p>
