The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 was mostly dominated by 5G and foldable smartphones. The Huawei Mate X and Samsung Galaxy Fold were the only models showcased at the event but the media attention generated was enough to ensure we keep talking about foldable phones for the rest of the year and that is what is happening. Since after MWC, Samsung had attempted to release the Galaxy Fold but some technical challenges had to precipitate an indefinite postponement. Now, Samsung is preparing to launch the Fold and there are rumours the Korean tech giant is even planning to release a second foldable phone, one with a Mate X-like design.huawei mate x

According to the reports, Samsung is currently working on multiple future models. The report hints that one of the foldable models could launch within the next few months while two of the devices are expected to arrive at some point next year.

The report covered by Korean’s The Investor reveal that Samsung has plans to “soon” launch an entire range of foldable smartphones, one of which will fold outwards like the Huawei Mate X. Very little is known about Samsung’s out-folding alternative at the moment but people within the company believe it could reach consumers before Huawei’s own device. Huawei’s foldable Mate X remains the most preferred foldable model by fans as a result of the outward folding design which translates into a tablet size screen when unfolded. This is different from the Galaxy Fold with an outward smaller display and an inner foldable display panel. The Mate X is expected to be released in September so, we have to be on the lookout if Samsung can come out with a new foldable phone before then.
