Samsung‘s next flagship smartphone is expected to be the Galaxy S11 series which should launch in the first quarter of 2019. The Galaxy S11 has featured in a couple of leaks which shows the device would likely take a detour from its predecessor in launching with several cutting-edge technologies and refreshed design.

The Galaxy S11 was recently rumoured to come with a triple camera setup at the front. A new rumour shared by Ice Universe on Weibo has emerged that the Galaxy S11 will use Samsung’s record-breaking 108MP sensor. Recall that Samsung had announced the world’s first mobile camera sensor that goes beyond 100MP in August this year. The Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX is a 108MP sensor for smartphones developed in collaboration with Xiaomi. The sensor was first utilised on the Mi CC9 Pro but if this rumour turns out to be true, the Galaxy S11 will be the first flagship to use the sensor. Well, that is if the Mi Mix Alpha isn’t released before then since it also packs the  108MP sensor.

samsung galaxy s10 plusThe ISOCELL Bright HMX is still a 0.8um image sensor as its 64MP offering but increases the sensor size to a staggering 1/1.33″, a first for a smartphone camera. This helps it churn out large 12032 x 9024-pixel resolution photos, comparable to high-end DSLRs. The large sensor size helps the sensor to absorb more light in low-lit conditions. Further, Smart-ISO helps the sensor intelligently select the right ISO to match the needs of the environment. The HMX sensor is using Samsung’s Tetracell and ISOCELL Plus technologies, so it will be able to generate bright, big-pixel 27MP images. The sensor also supports 6K (6016 x 3384 pixels) video recording at 30 fps.

While the launch of the Galaxy S11 lineup is still a couple of months away, we expect to get more details as time goes on. Already, the device is detailed to run on One UI 2.1 which will be based on Android 10. It is also said to have a faster fingerprint scanner, improved camera setup which includes 5X optical zoom sensor and 108 MP primary sensor. The device is also expected to be powered by an Exynos 9825 and Snapdragon 865.
