Quick Charge 4+ was announced back in 2017, so you won’t be wrong to expect the successor to arrive as Quick Charge 5 or Quick Charge 5+, right?  Qualcomm has surprised us by not launching Quick Charge 5 but Quick Charge 3+.

Quick Charge 3+

Qualcomm says the new charging technology is designed to bring “advanced charging at a lower price point”. The feature is said to be available first on the Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G processors.

Quick Charge 3+ is also said to be available first on the newly-launched Mi 10 Lite Zoom (Mi 10 Youth Edition). Surprisingly, the phone is said to also support Quick Charge 4+, making it the world’s first smartphone to support both charging technologies.

Quick Charge 3+

Below are the key features of Quick Charge 3+:

  • Fast Charging and better efficiency: charges from 0% to 50% in 15 minutes. It is also 35% more efficient than the previous generation and 9°C cooler.
  • Support for USB Type-A to Type-C cables and accessories
  • Backward compatibility with previous-generation Quick Charge devices. Newer devices can also work with Quick Charge 3+ accessories.
  • Integrated cable power capability or identification
  • Support for new PMICs such as SMB1395/SMB1396 which brings advantages such as eliminating the need for external components an overvoltage protection chip and a sense resistor.

Qualcomm says more Snapdragon mobile platforms will support the new fast charging technology.
