Pixel 5 is Google’s 2020 flagship smartphone disguised as a mid-range handset. It has all the basic things one needs in a smartphone at an affordable price tag than other flagships. However, despite being the top-tier phone from Google, some units have display gaps. Regardless, the device’s teardown video reveals it to be a well-built handset.

The teardown video of Google Pixel 5 was uploaded by PBKreviews channel on YouTube. This channel is known for smartphone teardown videos.

This video shows us that the new Pixel features a good quality build like any other high-end device. As Android Headlines mentions, this video unofficially confirms the display gap issue to be rather poor quality control than terrible build.

That said, if you have a Pixel 5 with a screen gap, you can request for a replacement. But it is worth noting that the panel won’t come off by itself. That’s because the phone’s frame is fitted with strong adhesive and the panel is locked with clips. Also, the handset is easy to repair as it uses a number of ribbon cables and connectors.

Anyway, the screen gap may or may not hinder IP68 certification. The adhesive may be able to block the water from entering the device but we cannot say it for sure. Therefore, if you really care about water-resistance, you should definitely get a replacement unit.
