The global semiconductor material market was worth 55.3 billion US Dollars last year and is expected to grow by about 6 percent this year, reaching 58.7 billion US Dollars. Now, a new SEMI report has found that South Korea alone would account for 10.5 billion US Dollars by the year 2022.

According to TheElec report, the materials market has been seeing a steady growth every year, especially in South Korea, which accounted for 9.23 billion US Dollars back in 2020. majority of the overall growth of the semiconductor materials market is from Taiwan, China, and South Korea. While the country was third in market size after Taiwan and China, it is still a major region considering the high investments being made by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

Both firms spend large sums on semiconductor materials, which is apparently the largest expenditure across the globe. Furthermore, SEMI is also gearing up to host SMC Korea 2021 from May 12 to May 18 in South Korea. The event will be fully online and will be streamed live and on demand sessions that will cover topics from extreme ultraviolet (EUV), packaging to foundry.
