Last month, we reported that Xiaomi was working on iOS-like widgets for MIUI. These widgets are now live in the beta channel. Anyone with a supported device running MIUI China Beta ROM can experience the new UI elements right away.

According to an announcement by the official Weibo account of MIUI, the iOS-like widgets are now available in the MIUI Beta channel.

During the initial testing stage, only a few first-party applications supported the new widget system. But now, Xiaomi says that developers of 6 popular apps in China have updated their applications for compatibility and even introduced some widgets.

The below-listed are the third-party apps that currently have widgets for MIUI.

  • Baidu App
  • Baidu Map
  • AutoNavi Map
  • QQ Music
  • Douyu
  • WPS Office

In addition to these applications, users can also experience widgets of stock MIUI apps like Gallery, Notes, Clock, Security, and others. The widgets can be placed both in ‘App Vault’ and on the home screen. They also support dark mode.

Unfortunately, as mentioned earlier, these widgets are currently only available on select mid-range and premium Mi, Redmi, and Xiaomi-branded smartphones running MIUI China Beta ROM. It’s not known when this feature will be made available in the global markets.

Android has always had widgets for a long time, however, they sort of died. Ever since Apple introduced widgets in iOS 14 last year, competitors bean to re-introduce starting with vivo OriginOS.

Google also revamped the Android widget system for Android 12 with support for the ‘Material You’ theming engine. Lastly, OPPO also has its own implementation of widgets called ‘Quick View Cards’ in ColorOS 12.
