According to an ITHome report, the Chinese tech giant’s technology making it on the list officially signifies the company’s entry into the field of medical equipments. As per the data from the State Food and Drug Administration, the Huawei smartwatch’s ECG sensor belongs in the second category of medical equipment, with its registration certificate number “20202071705.”

Back in May 2021, He Gang, the president of Huawei’s consumer business smartphone product line, stated that the company’s first smartwatch that supports blood pressure tracking has passed medical device registration tests. Furthermore, the company’s new technology will also start registered clinical trials with professional medical institutions within the next six months. According to the Guangdong Food and Drug Administration, the brand has three other medical devices that have entered the priority approval process.

This includes the wrist ECG blood pressure tracker (MLY-B10, MLY-B11), ECG analysis system (ECG-1), and heart rate disturbance analysis system (PPG-1). While the current generation of smart wearables include a number of health monitoring systems, these are not used for medical diagnoses. Additionally, only a few brands have obtained the second class certificate for medical equipments, namely Huawei, Apple, Huami, and Oppo.
