Samsung has unveiled the Home Hub which is a smart controller for the home. The device was showcased during Samsung’s pitch at the ongoing CES 2022 in Las Vegas. The Samsung Home Hub is a one-stop shop for the SmartThings ecosystem and it is designed to be a central point to control home activities within the ecosystem efficiently and seamlessly.
The Samsung Home Hub is a portable 8.4-inch tablet full touchscreen device with Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant and artificial intelligence features built-in to offer all the user needs and even anticipate user actions. It will be exciting to see the Samsung Home Hub in action, as it offers depth in monitoring and control of activities within the SmartThings home ecosystem. It is an innovative device that is likely to be copied by competitors in the smart home ecosystem. The Home Hub sits vertically on its charging dock and has two built-in microphones and speakers for hearing voice commands and giving notifications within the ecosystem.
According to Samsung, its new SmartThings controller will be able to connect to all products within the ecosystem, with the integration to other devices like lighting, and security gadgets also possible.
There are still some grey areas from the Samsung pitch during CES 2022 including pricing. It is speculated that the Home Hub could be released in Korea by March 2022, while a global rollout could follow subsequently. The company also confirmed that the device will be released in other markets. It is unclear whether there will be a separate release date of the Samsung Home Hub for the US market.
