Mobile retailers in Europe have reportedly confirmed that some entry-level Samsung smartphones will soon ship without a charger in the box (via Sudanshu). The move comes following the company’s decision to ditch in-box chargers with the Galaxy S21 series last year.

Samsung has a bit of history of first mocking Apple’s decisions and then copying them, whether it was with notches, headphone jacks, microSD card slots, and now chargers. The company in 2020 was caught red-handed deleting ads that poked fun at Apple’s decision to not ship chargers with their iPhones, after suddenly realizing that doing the same would be more profitable.

Not only that, Samsung even copied Apple’s justifications and cited environmental benefits as the main motive behind the move, while seemingly ignoring the fact that selling chargers in separate little boxes could only generate more waste.

But while it initially appeared that the new scheme would hold for flagship Galaxy phones alone, Samsung has now surprised everyone by including mid-range and entry-level offerings too. The European retail sources have listed some of the victim devices, and it includes the likes of Galaxy A13 and Galaxy A23 which were unveiled earlier this week.

Regardless, it would now be fair to say that Sammy may be planning on a charger-less future for all of its smartphone packaging. And if it actually does so, then more OEMs could follow suit.
