Chinese tech powerhouse Xiaomi has been working on delivering its first electric car. A new electric car patent has been approved for the company. The patent relates to Xiaomi’s electric vehicle design and it was filed back in 2019.
There are no indications yet on the possible release date of the Xiaomi electric car but the patent documents detail an SUV or sedan design with some modifications. Another patent relating to Xiaomi’s wide-angle camera modules for electric vehicles was filed late last year and has just been approved this week. As per the patent, the camera system will capture wide-angle images and contains several modules.
The Xiaomi electric car will omit the traditional exposed side mirrors for an improved range according to Xiaomi. The front of the car has an aerodynamic and sleek design while we expect the car’s platform to be driven by the tech company. The cameras are located on the top of the car including three sensors that provide a comprehensive view of the environment. The camera configuration helps to eliminate blind spots and enhanced overall safety. The Xiaomi camera patent will help to enhance the driving experience by providing a full view of the vehicle surrounding while driving.
The new patent joins a long list of Xiaomi car patents in the region of 800. We expect that when it finally releases its first electric vehicle, the car will be competitively priced and square up nicely against current models. It may be only a matter of time before we eventually see the Xiaomi electric car. The current 830 Xiaomi electric car patents are worth hundreds of millions of dollars currently.
