The first major set of new features for the Pixel since the release of Android 13 is now available thanks to Google’s December update for the Pixel series. So without wasting any time, let’s check out all these new features.
VPN by Google One
Your online activities are now secure regardless of app or browser thanks to the free VPN provided by Google One on the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro models. Google One’s VPN makes it so that your identity cannot be connected to your network traffic.
New unified security & privacy settings
Users may easily protect their device, accounts, and passwords by analyzing security and privacy settings, risk ratings, and other information in one place. This features brand-new action cards that warn you of security risks and provide effective, expedient fixes to enhance privacy and security.
Clear calling
The Pixel 7 or Pixel 7 Pro now enhances the other caller’s voice and reduces background noise thanks to Tensor G2, allowing you to clearly hear them even when they’re in a noisy setting.
Speaker labels with Pixel Recorder
Speaker labels are added to the Pixel Recorder. On a Pixel 6 or newer, Recorder labels each speaker and inserts line breaks when you record and translate an English conversation.
Each participant in a talk, meeting, or interview can be given a label. While you are recording speakers, this tool employs machine learning to categorize them. You can instantly rename speakers after recording.
Fitbit Sleep Profile for Pixel Watch
You can learn about your sleeping style and how you sleep with Fitbit Sleep Profile on Pixel Watch. You can also obtain sleep recommendations. This Fitbit Premium function analyses ten distinct aspects of sleep, including how much time you spend sleeping, how frequently you wake up during the night, and how long you sleep.
Based on your individual data and behaviors, these profiles and insights may change every month, allowing you to reflect on and improve your sleep. Wear your Pixel Watch to bed at least 14 evenings each month if you want to see results.
Pixel Watch Customization
To make it easier for you to schedule your day around the times when the sun rises and sets, the Sunrise/Sunset Tile from the Weather app has been included. You may instantly call, text, or view a contact’s details by pinning up to five people from your Favorites list using the Contacts app.

- Digital car keys can now be shared with friends and family who require access to your vehicle. Pixel, iPhone, and Android 12+ phones may share digital auto keys.
- Along with Spanish and English, Grammar Check on Gboard now supports French.
- Messages sent and received in your messaging apps can now be translated into Arabic, Persian, Swedish, Vietnamese, and Danish using Live Translate.
- A more robust search is now available on Pixel 4a and subsequent Pixel phones, enabling you to find what you’re looking for quickly, whether it’s an app, contact, screenshot, setting, or website result.
- For the Pixel 4a and subsequent Pixel phones, voice message transcription is now possible in Messages.
Spatial audio
With your Pixel, you can use Pixel Buds Pro to enjoy spatial audio with head tracking, but you can also get spatial audio with wired headphones.
Bug Fixes
About 70 bugs are fixed in the update for Pixel smartphones. The Android Security Bulletin, which can be accessed here, provides information on this month’s security patches.
Update Availability
All Pixel smartphones that can run Android 13 and are supported will start receiving these software updates today. The rollout will proceed in phases throughout the course of the following week, depending on the provider and device. While support for spatial audio will be available starting in January 2023.
