MediaTek launched the Dimensity 9200 earlier this year as its highest-end SoC and managed to get it into some of the most premium phones launched by Vivo this year. Now, rumors are rife that the semiconductor company is planning to release an updated version of the processor. The new processor is said to be called the Dimensity 9200+ and is expected to be the most powerful 5G chipset from MediaTek this year.

Reputed Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station says Dimensity 9200+ is on the way. It is not difficult to assume from the naming that chipset is an upscaled version of Dimensity 9200, and will likely have an increased CPU frequency. The current Dimensity 9200 has an octa-core architecture with one fast Cortex-X2 core clocked at up to 3 GHz frequency, three A710 cores with up to 2.85 GHz, and four power-efficiency cores (Cortex-A510) with up to 1.8 GHz frequency. It uses Immortalis-G715 GPU.

Based on this, we can assume the Dimensity 9200+ will also be designed with a 1+3+4 architecture, and the main frequency of the super-large core will exceed 3.05GHz. It will likely be manufactured by TSMC on its second-generation 4nm process.

The AnTuTu score of Dimensity 9200 exceeded 1.2 million points, so we won’t be surprised to see the Dimensity 9200+ go above 1.3 million points. It is expected to rival Qualcomm’s second-generation Snapdragon 8 mobile platform, which has managed to achieve an impressive AnTuTu running score of over 1.3 million.

The commercial release of the Dimensity 9200+ chip is anticipated to take place in the latter half of this year. Reports suggest that three popular brands – OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi – are considering using the chip in their upcoming devices.
