The Hilo One features a similar collision warning system as used in cars. It uses computer vision AI to alert the rider of impending dangers. This is achieved through visual, audible, and sensory feedback in the scooter’s handlebars. Palmer has also been previously Nissan’s COO and has helped to drive the adoption of EV technology in the UK. Palmer says the Hilo One addresses the major safety challenges of e-scooters squarely.

The Hilo One has a regulatory speed limit of 25km/h thanks to its twin 350W motors and a riding range of 40km. It can either be charged at home or through an accompanying in-car charger. The Hilo One is also compatible with Android Auto and allows for navigation and range information sharing between it and a car.

Its full perimeter lighting fully illuminates the e-scooter for enhanced night visibility. The lights will flash when other commuters get dangerously close. The Hilo One’s onboard computer is also configured to recognize Unit 1 helmet use. Its built-in control unit also integrates with an EV and can share information on charging stations and navigation bidirectionally.
