MIUI, which is developed by Xiaomi, offers one of the most extensive customization features available on Android skins. Using the built-in MIUI themes app, users can personalize everything from the basic fonts to the icon packs and animations. The app offers a wide range of options for users to choose from. The company recently kicked off its 2023 Xiaomi International Theme Competition. Let’s go through the details.

Xiaomi hosts an annual theme competition that invites individuals from around the world to submit their locally inspired themes to the brand. The competition is organized by Xiaomi’s International Internet Business Department (IIB) and the 2023 edition follows the slogan “Global Expressions, Local Inspirations”. This event aims to expand the selection of locally inspired themes for MIUI by adding new and diverse options to the collection.

Alongside the announcement, the brand also recognized some of its top theme designers for MIUI. The list includes Manolo, a freelancer from Italy who created a black-and-white theme that was downloaded over 20 million times.

Colombian artist Matiba painted vibrant smartphone wallpapers for Barranquilla’s Carnival, showcasing her cultural roots in collaboration with Xiaomi. Piyush, a Xiaomi fan, started designing themes in his free time and eventually turned his passion into a career at Xiaomi’s India office.

The Xiaomi 2023 International Theme Competition started on July 28th and will continue until November 1st, 2023. Designers can enter their themes through this link. Following this, expert reviews and voting will take place from November 1st to December 28th. The winning designs will then be announced and awarded.

The brand will shortlist the top designers and reward them with a special gift as a token of appreciation. The names of the winners will be displayed shortly after the event concludes. The first-place winner of the theme design competition will receive a prize of $13,000 from Xiaomi.
