Xiaomi has started recruiting range extender system development engineers, as it plans an entry into the EV space. The inference was drawn based on an ad placed on the Xiaomi website. Range extenders are increasingly becoming important additions to an EV. Interested applicants are expected to have a basic engineering degree and more than three years of experience.
As per the ad on Xiaomi’s website, the engineer will be in charge of developing and testing range extender systems and assisting in building a supply chain. The job description of the engineer also includes research into future range extender technology trends. The ideal engineers for the task should be experienced in mass production and maintenance projects. Xiaomi is also looking for internal combustion, air-intake, and exhaust system engineers, as well as NVH developers.
While Xiaomi has not released an official message on its EREV plans, there is some evidence to support the development of EREV. The Xiaomi Sedan’s design points to possible EREV integration. The yet-to-be-released Xiaomi MS11 sedan is long enough to have an internal combustion compartment.
Xiaomi has been rumored to have received one of the two relevant permits that will propel it to begin production. The company had also started recruitment for its production facility in Beijing, China back in August. There had also been rumors that Xiaomi has started trial production of the MS11 which is also said to be launched later this year. Xiaomi currently has a stake in Roborock, somehow linked to the Xinchen China Power range extender system via Rox Motor.
