Blake Rhodes of Twisted Voltage LLC, based in Northern Virginia, is turning heads with his unique approach to car restoration. His focus? Transforming the classic Volkswagen Beetle into an electric powerhouse using Tesla components.
The 1.3-litre engine has been replaced with a Netgain Hyper 9 Electric Motor
At the heart of Rhodes’ project is a 1962 Volkswagen Beetle. This isn’t just any restoration, though. Instead of the typical restoration path, Rhodes is electrifying these vintage cars. He replaces the traditional 1.3-litre engine with a Netgain Hyper 9 electric motor, producing an impressive 120 horsepower and 173 pound-feet of torque. This upgrade triples the original internal combustion engine’s output, a testament to modern engineering ingenuity.
What’s remarkable about Rhodes’ work is his attention to detail. He meticulously integrates Tesla Model S batteries into the Beetle’s design, achieving a range of about 100 miles.
