WhatsApp is increasingly focused on privacy. For example, we recently told you about the Alternate Profile feature that will be coming to the app. This feature, which allows you to create a secondary profile for people you are not close to, was very welcome news for users who have not yet found a balance between work and personal life. Now, WhatsApp has also introduced email profile verification, which is just as important. Here are the details…

WhatsApp Introduces Email Verification for Account Authentication

WhatsApp is now allowing users to verify their accounts using an email address in addition to a phone number. This new option is particularly useful for times when cellular coverage is poor or unavailable. The email verification process involves linking a valid email address to the user’s WhatsApp account.

Once linked, users can receive the six-digit verification code via email instead of SMS. While email verification provides an alternative authentication method, it does not replace SMS verification altogether. Opening a WhatsApp account still requires a valid phone number. WhatsApp is also exploring the implementation of a username feature.

This feature would allow users to communicate with others using usernames instead of phone numbers, similar to Telegram. The username feature is still under development, and its exact functionality is yet to be determined. However, it could potentially provide an additional layer of privacy for WhatsApp users.

The email verification feature is currently rolling out to iOS users in version 23.24.70 of the WhatsApp app. To use email verification, users can access the Settings tab, select Account, and then choose Email Address.
