A report earlier this week revealed that, for the first time, Apple is planning to manufacture the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max in India, alongside China.
In fact, Foxconn, a key Apple manufacturing partner, is said to have already begun training its workers at its Tamil Nadu facility in India. A new leak now adds further credibility to the rumors that the “Made in India” iPhone 16 Pro models are indeed on the way.
The leak comes from a Weibo user who shared an image of what appears to be a label that seals the iPhone 16 Pro box. Notably, the label reads “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in India.”

While the authenticity of this leak is not confirmed—since it comes from an unfamiliar source—the label aligns with the rumors about the “Made in India” iPhone Pro models, making it a strong possibility that it is true.
Note that, Apple is expected to assemble only the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models in India, not the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. Reportedly, the initial demand for the new models will be met through exports, but local production in India is expected to begin shortly after the launch.
In addition to Foxconn, other Apple partners in India, such as Pegatron and Tata Group, are also expected to start producing the iPhone 16 Pro models soon.
This is not Apple’s first venture into iPhone assembly in India. It was last year when the California-based tech giant first started manufacturing the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models in the country.
Since the demand for the latest iPhones is modest in India due to their high price, the majority of the new iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max assembled there are likely to be exported to the US, the Middle East, and Europe.
