Xiaomi has opened pre-orders for the Smart Lock 5 Max in China. It is priced at 3,529 yuan (about $495), putting it well above more affordable models like the Smart Door Lock 5C, which costs less than 700 yuan.
The Smart Lock 5 Max has a bridge-style design with an AG-finished panel, a glass handle, and a floating panel surrounded by a ring light. Xiaomi says the design is made to fit into different home interiors without looking out of place.
The biggest focus is on the lock’s unlocking options. Xiaomi offers 12 methods in total, including 3D face recognition and palm vein recognition.
The 3D face recognition system supports users between 1.2 and 2 meters tall and can unlock the door in around one second. The palm vein system works from a distance of 10 to 20cm. It can be used by children over 1.1 meters tall as well as older family members who may find fingerprint sensors difficult to use. The lock also has a built-in 192-degree 2K camera with dynamic night vision.
Built-in camera and AI features
Inside, there is a 5-inch display that lets you see what’s happening outside without opening the door. Xiaomi also uses a large AI model to analyze the camera feed. It can tell whether someone is actually standing at the door or simply walking past, and can also detect when a package has been left outside.
The Smart Lock 5 Max also sends alerts if the door is left open or if someone tries to force the lock. It supports intercom features as well, allowing it to work with other devices in Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem.
For power, the lock uses two 8,000mAh batteries, which can provide up to 11 months of normal use. When the battery level falls below 10%, the lock switches to a power-saving mode. This keeps basic unlocking functions available for another 2.5 months before you refill the batteries again.
