In shocking news, the USA Government agencies say that hackers from Russia have been trying to get into many of the USA’ State Government computer networks. Unfortunately, they have already stolen data from two of them.

A Reuters report quotes US agencies mentioning a Russian group called Berserk Bear or Dragonfly by researchers. Apparently, they were after dozens of state, local, tribal and territorial US governments. The list, which also includes aviation networks, is unspecified in total. Further, the FBI, and Homeland Security Dept. says a Russian state-sponsored actor has conducted a campaign. He has been targeting the US since September 2020.

And out of the vulnerable, they reportedly broke into two of the governments and stole the data. But we don’t know the names of the governments and details of the attack yet. However, the Russian Embassy, when contacted, has rejected these claims as groundless. The attack comes amidst a nearing “US Presidential election 2020” that is scheduled on November 3.

Further, US Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe says Russia and Iran are trying to interfere with the Presidential election. He adds that Russia has already obtained a few voters’ information, and Iran sent spoof emails to confuse users. Previously, in 2016, US agencies had said that hackers allegedly working for Russia’s military intelligence accessed emails of various US Democrats and other political figures, and exposed them.

Coming back, the US officials didn’t exactly say if this attack will disrupt elections or the government’s business. But they didn’t rule out the possibility of such motive in the future either.
