Intel has been the leading semiconductor company in terms of sales for quite some time now but if the report from IC Insight is to be believed, then the South Korean giant Samsung is poised to take the lead.

As per the report, Samsung will take the top spot for semiconductor sales in the second quarter of this year, dethroning Intel. While the sales of Intel have been declining, Samsung has been steadily increasing sales for the past few years.

Samsung Semiconductor Sales Forecast Q2 2021

For semiconductor sales in Q1 2021, Samsung generated $17.1 billion whereas Intel secured $18.7 billion during the same period. Now, as per the estimation of IC Insight, Intel’s sales will drop to $17.9 billion in Q2 2021 while the sales of Samsung in this category will increase to $18.5 billion.

Samsung overtook Intel in terms of semiconductor sales in Q2 2017, ending the 24-year reign of Intel in the segment. At the time, the Korean giant managed to hold the top spot for six quarters before Intel again took the lead.

Since then, the semiconductor sales of Samsung have been steadily increasing at a rate that is higher than Intel. The report claims that the trend will continue throughout Q2 201 for Samsung to overtake Intel once again.
