Why the Galaxy S25 Series’ Fast Charging Speeds Could Be Its Biggest Letdown

Rumors and reports have already revealed that the South Korean tech giant will offer no improvement in fast charging. So for years, Samsung has decided to not innovate on this side and continue to offer some of the slowest charging speeds on any Android flagship phone. In the recent FCC sighting, the Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra were listed with 45W fast charging support.

Meanwhile, the vanilla Galaxy S25 was listed with 25W fast charging. It gets worse when you consider that the base model was spotted with just 9W wireless charging support, which is a downgrade from the Galaxy S24’s 15W wireless charging. So it’s a step below even stagnation. This is a massive letdown considering how Android phones that are a lot more affordable easily outpace Samsung’s best in this regard.

Samsung has officially stated that battery health and longevity are a priority and fast charging might impact both of these aspects of their smartphones. So they chose to stick with moderate charging speeds. It is true that fast charging technology didn’t have its drawbacks initially, but improving battery and charging tech has made quicker charging possible without the long term negative impacts.

Now, I’m not claiming Samsung offers ludicrously fast charging that crosses the 200W charging or even the 100W charging like certain Chinese brands. Something closer to 80W would also be more than enough. That’s not all, the base model being leagues behind even budget phones is basically a rip-off. You’re spending around $700 for a phone that takes longer than an iPhone to charge. We have got to the point where Apple has basically caught up to Samsung. It is clear that the company wants the display quality, camera performance, and other areas to shine, but fast charging is a quality-of-life feature at this point.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series will undoubtedly shine in several key areas, but its lackluster fast-charging capabilities might leave some fans disappointed. For the sake of caution, it risks falling behind competitors that are pushing the boundaries of charging technology. So if you’re planning on upgrading to the Galaxy S25 lineup, the fast charging might be a factor that might make you reconsider your decision.
