Xiaomi is redefining tablet gaming with its latest innovation, the WinPlay engine, a system-level feature that enables seamless cross-platform compatibility between Xiaomi’s Hyper OS and Windows gaming. Designed specifically for the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro 12.4, this technology allows local gaming of Windows titles on the tablet, eliminating the need for an internet connection.
WinPlay: Everything you need to know

According to the Director of Xiaomi Mobile System Software Department, Zhang Guoquan, Xiaomi’s WinPlay engine leverages foundational technology dubbed Xiaomi HyperCore that creates a virtual environment on the tablet that efficiently supports Windows games while offering high performance and stability. Users can easily access games from popular platforms like Steam and GOG, download them directly, and enjoy a robust gaming experience.
This feature supports a variety of gaming peripherals, including controllers, keyboards, and mice, ensuring a PC-like experience. Additionally, it provides support for multiplayer gaming with up to four players. Xiaomi has also optimised WinPlay for Xbox controllers, enabling users to enjoy enhanced haptic feedback akin to the original console. Here’s a video shared by DCS that showcases WinPlay running Windows games on Pad 6S Pro.
According to Xiaomi’s internal tests, the GPU performance loss through WinPlay is only 2.9 percent, ensuring near-native gaming performance. With an average power consumption of just 8.3W, the system is both efficient and reliable. Xiaomi has implemented a tri-layer virtualisation system for handling essential APIs, image rendering, and command execution, achieving a seamless user experience with minimal resource usage.
The intelligent resource allocation system further enhances the gaming experience by reducing the load on system resources. This ensures smooth performance, from game loading to rendering, with excellent flow throughout the gaming process.
While WinPlay brings Windows gaming to the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro, it is currently limited to this device and does not support running standard Windows applications. Xiaomi plans to refine and expand the feature based on user feedback. The company has not yet announced a timeline for a stable version but aims to deliver a polished product in the near future.
Xiaomi has opened a beta program for Pad 6S Pro 12.4 users, running on Hyper OS 2 Beta. Interested participants can apply through the Xiaomi Community app and must update their device to the latest firmware. After transferring the game files from a PC to a designated directory on the tablet, users can start playing by simply connecting their peripherals.
