Huawei‘s dominance in the Chinese smartphone market shows no signs of slowing. The company has surpassed Apple and domestic competitors like Xiaomi to claim the top spot in the country’s smartphone market. And it’s also the number one foldable brand in China

The success can be attributed in part to Huawei’s strategy of self-reliance in hardware and software, mitigating the impact of the U.S. ban on its domestic business. The company’s next flagship will be the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, and it looks like the phone will make an even greater impact.

Huawei Pura 80 Ultra to feature self-developed cameras

According to Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu, the device will feature a “self-developed” triple-camera system on the rear. This will include a massive 1-inch sensor for the main camera, a 50-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a “super-large” periscope zoom lens with a 1/1.3-inch sensor. For context, the Pura 70 series uses OmniVision sensors.

Huawei is also rumored to be working on a new Kirin 5G chip for the Pura 80 series. The chip is reportedly called Kirin 9020, and it should provide even more power and performance for photography tasks.

The company is also likely to enhance its AI capabilities with the next Pura line, which could lead to further improvements in image processing.

The Huawei Pura 80 series is expected to launch in Q2 2025, likely around April, in line with the Pura 70 series’ release schedule. However, Huawei has yet to confirm these details. The official specs and features of the upcoming flagship smartphones may be revealed directly at the official unveiling.
