Vivo is all set to announce the Vivo X Fold 5 foldable phone this month in China. Today, Han Boxiao, Vivo’s Product Manager, shared the periscope telephoto camera samples of the phone and addressed the common belief that large foldable phones must compromise on camera capabilities to remain slim and lightweight.

Boxiao revealed that the upcoming Vivo X Fold 5 breaks this stereotype by offering top-tier imaging performance without sacrificing design. Despite being thinner and lighter than the previous generation—measuring just 4.x mm when unfolded—the X Fold 5 manages to house a periscope telephoto lens that surpasses the one found on the X Fold 3 Pro.

To support this claim, Boxiao shared three telephoto camera samples, including 1x and 20x zoom shots that clearly capture distant mountain peaks with fine detail. The device also supports telephoto macro photography, showcasing even the tiniest subjects, such as spider webs, with incredible clarity.

According to him, the X Fold 5 delivers an imaging experience on par with mainstream flagship smartphones and even rivals some “Pro” models, proving that foldable users, too, can enjoy a true flagship-level camera experience. However, he did not share any details about the device’s camera configuration.

A recent leak revealed that the Vivo X Fold 5’s rear camera setup will comprise a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 main camera with OIS support and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide sensor with autofocus support. The setup will also include a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS.

The camera placed on the Vivo X Fold 5’s cover screen will be a 32-megapixel lens. On the inside, it is likely to feature another 32-megapixel camera.
