Asus has introduced a new portable storage device, the Adol High Speed Solid State USB Drive (PM310), in China. The device functions as a standard flash drive but incorporates solid-state storage technology to offer faster transfer rates than traditional thumb drives. It is designed primarily to facilitate file transfers between devices that use different USB standards.

Asus Adol PM310 Specifications

The physical design of the Adol drive centers around a dual-connector setup. One end features a standard USB-A port, while the other has a USB-C port. This configuration allows users to plug the drive directly into older desktop PCs and then connect it to modern smartphones, tablets, or laptops without needing a separate adapter.

The drive features a metal chassis measuring 82 x 20 x 7.5mm and weighs 42.9g, making it compact and lightweight enough for everyday carry. It also includes a built-in flip cap mechanism that protects the connectors when the drive is not in use.

In terms of performance, the Adol drive utilizes a USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface. Asus reports that the drive is capable of reaching sequential read speeds of up to 500MB/s. While this speed is lower than what you would find on larger, dedicated external SSDs, it is a standard benchmark for compact solid-state thumb drives.

The portable drive supports plug-and-play functionality across multiple operating systems, including macOS, Android, HarmonyOS, and iOS or iPadOS.

Pricing and Availability

The Asus Adol drive is available in four storage capacities. The base 128GB model is priced at 280 yuan ($41). The 256GB version costs 409 yuan ($60), the 512GB model is 629 yuan ($92), and the maximum 1TB capacity is listed at 959 yuan ($141).

In related news, Colorful has recently launched the RP600X Pro portable SSD with up to 1000MB/s read speeds and support for Apple ProRes recording.
