Motorola has taken a different approach with the Edge 70 Max. While it is the most powerful smartphone the company has launched under the Edge series, it is not intended to replace the more premium Motorola Signature. Instead, Motorola has positioned the Edge 70 Max as a performance-focused flagship for users who care more about raw power, battery life, and display quality than flagship-grade photography. Starting at Rs 54,999, it enters a competitive segment occupied by the iQOO 15R and OnePlus 15R, while the Motorola Signature, priced from Rs 64,999, caters to buyers looking for a more premium camera experience and longer software support despite sharing the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. After using the Edge 70 Max as my daily driver, here’s what it gets right and where it falls short.
1A premium build with a display that steals the show
The Motorola Edge 70 Max looks and feels every bit like a flagship. I received the Aqua Grey variant, and its matte glass finish gives the phone an understated yet premium appearance. The aluminum frame adds to the solid in-hand feel, while Gorilla Glass 7i protection on both sides, MIL-STD-810H certification, and IP68/IP69 ratings provide reassurance against everyday wear and accidental splashes.
Although the matte finish resists fingerprints exceptionally well, there is one thing worth noting. Motorola does not include a protective case in the box. During my review period, a minor drop caused slight discoloration on one edge of the frame. It is nothing severe, but it is enough to recommend investing in a case from day one.
At over 220 grams, the Edge 70 Max is certainly not a lightweight smartphone. Personally, I have been using phones weighing more than 200 grams, so the weight never bothered me. However, anyone moving from a lighter device will certainly notice it. The phone also isn’t particularly comfortable for users with smaller hands because of its large footprint.
The 6.8-inch Quad HD+ AMOLED display is one of the biggest highlights of the phone. I would comfortably rate it a 9 out of 10. The bezels are slim, the panel looks sharp, and HDR content on YouTube and Netflix looks excellent. Outdoor visibility was good enough during my usage, and I never experienced eye strain even during extended reading sessions. The stereo speakers complement the display well, making the phone an excellent companion for streaming movies and TV shows.
