Anbernic has launched the RG 55G1, its first Android handheld powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, marking a shift from the Unisoc and Rockchip chips used in its previous devices.

The RG 55G1 adopts a horizontal design that closely resembles the Nintendo Switch Lite. It features a 5.5-inch IPS display with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio and a 1080p resolution. The screen is fully laminated and sits flush with the device’s front panel.
For controls, Anbernic is using Hall-effect sensors for both the dual analog sticks and the shoulder triggers, a hardware choice that prevents stick drift over time. The joysticks also include customizable RGB lighting rings around the base. The rest of the layout is standard, featuring a D-pad, double-shot injection-molded ABXY buttons, and standard bumpers. The entire device weighs 339 grams.
Inside, the RG 55G1 is powered by the Snapdragon G1 Gen 2, a 4nm chip with two Kryo Gold cores and six Kryo Silver cores, paired with an Adreno A12 GPU. To manage heat during gameplay, the device includes an active cooling system with a built-in fan and heat pipe. It comes with either 4GB+64GB or 8GB+128GB of memory and storage.
On the software side, the handheld runs Android 14. Anbernic has included its own software overlay, RG Home, which acts as a game launcher and includes a built-in screen mapping tool for playing touch-only Android games with physical buttons.
The software also supports driver switching, letting users swap between Qualcomm’s native graphics drivers and open-source Turnip Vulkan drivers, a useful feature for optimizing performance in certain emulators. Additionally, Anbernic has integrated a few AI tools into a swipe-in menu, offering features like real-time translation and text-based game guides.
The device runs on a 6,000mAh battery that charges at 18W, which Anbernic claims will last for up to eight hours of gameplay. Standard connectivity options are present, including Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microSD card slot that supports up to 2TB cards.
Pricing and Availability
The RG 55G1 is available in Black, Retro Gray, and Indigo. The 4GB/64GB model costs $139.99 during the introductory period (normally $149.99), while the 8GB/128GB model is priced at $164.99 (normally $174.99). The company is also offering various bundles that include microSD cards for an additional cost.
