Timex has expanded its US lineup with the release of the Marlin Jet Chronograph, a 40mm watch that combines 1960s design cues with a hybrid meca-quartz movement.

Design Details

The watch comes in two versions. The primary model features a sage green dial with white sub-dials and comes on a stainless steel deployant bracelet for $309. The second variant costs $279 and features a silver-tone dial with navy blue sub-dials, paired with a blue quick-release fabric strap made from recycled plastic.

The watch features a heavily domed Hesalite crystal that extends over the grooved bezel and tachymeter scale, giving it a smooth, vintage-inspired profile. Its brushed and polished stainless steel case measures 40mm wide, 46.5mm lug-to-lug, and 14mm thick.

Inside, the watch runs on a meca-quartz movement powered by an SR936SW battery. This is a hybrid system. The standard timekeeping is handled by a standard quartz mechanism, which keeps the cost down and maintains high accuracy.

However, the chronograph (stopwatch) functions are driven by a mechanical module. When you press the pushers to start the timer, the second hand sweeps smoothly across the dial and snaps back instantly when reset, rather than ticking once per second like a standard quartz watch.

Standard features across both models include a date window positioned above the 6 o’clock marker, full hour markers, and a 50-meter water resistance rating. This rating means the watch can handle rain and light swimming, but it isn’t built for diving or high-pressure water sports.

Both models are listed on the Timex US storefront now, though the fabric strap version is currently marked as a pre-order.

In related news, Timex has recently launched new Marlin Quartz watches in four striking dial colors, along with a Fender automatic watch inspired by the iconic Telecaster guitar.
