Dangbei has added a new model to its home theater lineup in China with the release of the X9 Ultra. Launched alongside the X9 Max, the X9 Ultra is a 4K laser projector that focuses on high brightness, optical flexibility, and a surprisingly robust set of gaming features. It is currently available on JD.com for 7,999 yuan ($1,192).

Dangbei X9 Ultra Specifications

The projector is built around a 0.47-inch DMD chip and uses the new QuaLas 42 pure RGB triple-laser light source. According to Dangbei, this setup outputs 5,600 CVIA lumens, which translates to about 6,100 ISO lumens. To manage the heat from the brighter laser, the projector uses an updated thermal management system with larger cooling fins and optimized airflow. The company says this keeps operating noise at or below 28dB.

The projector features four-way optical lens shift, allowing the image to move by up to ±135% vertically and ±50% horizontally without relying on digital keystone correction. This helps preserve image quality while providing greater flexibility with projector placement. It also comes with a 1.2-1.5:1 optical zoom, allowing users to adjust the screen size without physically moving the projector. The lens system uses low-dispersion glass elements to reduce color fringing and glare for a cleaner image.

In terms of image quality, the X9 Ultra supports Dolby Vision and claims a dynamic contrast ratio of 80,000:1. It covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and comes factory-calibrated with a Delta E of around 0.7. Dangbei has also included a software algorithm designed to reduce the rainbow effect that is sometimes visible on DLP projectors.

Internally, the X9 Ultra runs on a MediaTek MT9681 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. It supports Wi-Fi 6 and includes several features typically found on gaming monitors, such as Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and a claimed input lag of 1ms. There is also a 21:9 ultrawide display mode for PC gaming.

The projector runs Dangbei AI OS 6.0 and supports Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem through the Mijia app. Its built-in media player supports NFS, SMB, and FTP protocols for streaming content directly from a NAS. For connectivity, it comes with two HDMI 2.1 ports, including one with eARC, two USB ports, and an optical audio output. It also features dual 12W full-range speakers with Dolby Audio and DTS support.
