Casio has expanded its US watch lineup with the release of two new Edifice EFS-S660 models. Initially launched in Japan this past August, the EFS-S660D-1A and EFS-S660PB-1A are now available on the company’s US website for $200. The release adds a pair of straightforward, solar-powered analog chronographs to the market, focusing on standard materials and a smaller form factor rather than smart features or oversized designs.
Design Details
The primary differentiator for the EFS-S660 series is its size. The watches feature a compact case measuring 38.3mm in diameter, 45.3mm lug-to-lug, and 11.6mm thick. This is a smaller footprint compared to many contemporary chronographs, which often exceed 40mm or even 42mm.
Casio has equipped both models with a sapphire crystal that includes an anti-reflective coating, a material choice that provides better scratch resistance than the mineral glass typically found on watches in this price bracket. Both models also include a standard 100-meter water resistance rating.
Casio is offering the watch in two distinct configurations. The EFS-S660D-1A is the heavier of the two at 129 grams, featuring a standard stainless steel case and a matching stainless steel bracelet with a one-touch, three-fold clasp. It uses a blue center seconds hand for visual contrast against the dark dial.
The EFS-S660PB-1A is a lighter variant at 71 grams, swapping the steel band for a black resin strap. It features a gray ion-plated case, a black ion-plated bezel, and a red center seconds hand.
Internally, both watches use Casio’s solar charging system. The textured dial allows ambient light to reach the solar panel underneath, which then charges the internal battery. The watches can run for around five months on a full charge before the hands stop moving. They also feature a low battery alert that lets users know when the watch needs more light exposure. The quartz movement is rated for an accuracy of ±20 seconds per month.
For timing, the watches feature a 1/20-second stopwatch that can measure elapsed time, split times, and first- and second-place finishes for up to nearly an hour. The dial includes three standard hands, a date window, and three sub-dials for regular seconds, stopwatch minutes, and 1/20-second measurements. Casio has also added a tachymeter scale around the outer bezel, which can be used to calculate speed based on travel time.
