Galaxy S27 Ultra’s biggest upgrade in years? Major certification hints 5,700mAh battery

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra may finally bring the battery upgrade that Galaxy S Ultra users have been waiting for. The upcoming flagship is listed with a larger battery than the Galaxy S26 Ultra, while the Galaxy S27 Pro is also expected to gain a sizeable power cell. The new battery details have emerged alongside the previously reported 60W charging support.

Galaxy S27 Ultra battery to get long-awaited upgrade

The Galaxy S27 Ultra is listed with a Samsung SDI battery carrying the model number EB-BS958DBY. It has a rated capacity of 5,534mAh, which could translate to a typical capacity of around 5,700mAh in the retail phone. The Galaxy S27 Pro, meanwhile, is listed with the EB-BS957CBY battery, offering a rated capacity of 5,087mAh and a possible typical capacity of around 5,200mAh.

For the Galaxy S27 Ultra, this could mark a significant change after years of Samsung sticking with the same battery capacity. The Galaxy S26 Ultra has a 5,000mAh battery, while the Galaxy S20 Ultra introduced the same 5,000mAh capacity when it launched in 2020. If the 5,534mAh rated capacity translates to a 5,700mAh typical capacity, the S27 Ultra would finally move beyond the 5,000mAh battery ceiling that has defined the Ultra lineup for several generations.

The battery information comes from Samsung SDI listings, with the rated capacities providing a more precise indication of the cells being used. The marketed battery capacities may differ because smartphone manufacturers generally advertise typical rather than rated capacity figures.

the3C certification previously listed both the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra with support for 60W charging, suggesting that Samsung will maintain the faster charging capability introduced with the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

The Galaxy S27 and S27 Plus have also appeared in China’s 3C database with 45W and 27W charging support, respectively. With all four models now certified, the Galaxy S27 series could arrive earlier than its predecessor, potentially as soon as January 2027.
