Xiaomi has announced that the Super Pixel display on the Xiaomi 18 Pro series is getting an upgrade to version 2.0. The company says the new screen combines flagship-level image quality with hardware-level privacy protection built into the display.
The announcement comes ahead of the phone’s launch. Xiaomi has already confirmed a September 23 launch at 19:00 China time and revealed that the series will use an M11 display. The latest announcement gives us more details about the panel and its features.
What Xiaomi changed in the screen
According to Xiaomi, the Super Pixel 2.0 display uses an M11 light-emitting system, a new green light-emitting material, a full RGB pixel arrangement, and built-in hardware-level privacy protection.
The new green material is said to improve luminous efficiency by 20%, while the display can reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits.
Xiaomi also says the full RGB pixel layout helps maintain pixel clarity without losses. The company claims the display can use about as much power as a 1.5K panel while delivering clarity comparable to a 2K screen.
These are Xiaomi’s own claims, and the company has not provided detailed test results yet. Independent testing will be needed to see how the display performs in real-world use.
How the privacy feature works
Xiaomi has not explained exactly how the hardware-level privacy protection works yet. However, a leak from August gave us an idea of what the software side could look like. The feature is called Smart Privacy Display.
According to details shared, users can create app groups and set different privacy display rules for each group. For example, a banking app could use a privacy mode while a video app does not.
The feature can also activate automatically when the phone detects certain sensitive screens. The leaked information mentions four types of content: password entry, payments, fund transfers, and messages.
Reports about a Samsung-style privacy display on Xiaomi’s next flagship first appeared in June. Today’s announcement is the first time Xiaomi has officially confirmed that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will have hardware-level privacy protection.
What to expect on September 23
Xiaomi is expected to reveal the full specifications, pricing, and availability of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series at its launch event. It has not yet confirmed whether the new display or its privacy features will be available on models sold outside China.
